What if the game makes no profit for Nexon? The same what happens if it does not do Profit for us: we need to work on that
Fundamentally there is not much of a difference.

Did ET bring SD any profit? Serious question, not rhetorical.

Then why would they even bother making a Free2Play game to start with? like if the market has almost non-existant uptake on FPS Free2Play titles what is the point of going down that road to start with?
You have to be pretty confident to sink development time and money into a F2P title that it is eventually going to turn you a profit or you wouldnt be developing it in the first place, even if it would be a niche community
Considering the game was completely free I doubt it brought in a lot of cash for SD
That aside, I’m in the duelling map right now in DB for anyone who wants to challenge me!

You just answered your own question.
These types of deals aren’t entered into lightly; tons of analysis and market research (in-house and independent) go into them and these decisions are very informed.
Ehhhh
I share the trepidation due to the developments but ultimately we’re all going to be here on launch, grinding for xp, showing off our gun tags. We feel more entitled to voice our frustration due to forking over cash upfront… which is fair.
I’m not in a position where I feel that SD owes me anything as a result of this tho. I bought the founder vip pack because I wanted to contribute/pay SD back a bit for ET but also get the goodies and a voice. But there’s a few realities here that cant really be denied…
[ul]
[li]Cash is king[/li][li]More accessibility (e.g. classes obj’s) = more players = more chance of cash[/li][li]Dev’s gotta eat, yo[/li][li]You pay for something upfront thats still being developed, you might not get what you thought you would. We didn’t get a signed contract from SD saying “this is how it will definitely ship” so, there’s no recourse. I don’t really think we’re victims of a bait and switch.[/li][li]Again, cash is king[/li][/ul]
Theres a life lesson in there somewhere. Get in on the ground floor… etc…
Full servers are better than empty ones. If this is going to get more players, that isn’t so bad… as long as its not watered down any further. The segregation doesn’t float my boat tho. Why build a wall?
A lot of crowdfunded games I’ve thrown money at have been letdowns in some way or another. I think DB will be my last… I’ll wait till something ships next time (damn those pre-purchase/backer rewards!!)
All of that said,… I def dont regret my purchase.
tl;dr
Life sucks. You don’t always get what you expect. Everything revolves around the mighty $. We’ll still be here on launch. Lets just hope we can really impact/shape the game somehow from here.
Well, I guess I should have been more clear
Profit as from sales. I know that SD got money to work on the game in the first place.
It is a rare case though, a MP game released for free without any cash shop etc whatshowever.
The other thing is that this Nexon business obviously is not new-news in regards to SplashDamage choosing who to go with, im sure this was figured out quite some time ago considering you had already planned the name change and have all the related media going up for what i assume is the Nexon press release regarding them picking up/supporting DB/Extraction

the other side of this in regards to ET is that without promod it wouldnt of lived for an extended period of time considering what state the stock game was in when it was first released

thats true. i remember many rtcw guys moved on to cod1…
um… What? you say today asif the game hasnt been out for 10 years, also id say you are categorically wrong, etpro and etpub are considered (for arguments sake)the same mod, and for that matter servers not running either would likely have almost zero playerbase apart from the niche ‘fun’ mods
Lol, I didn’t say it as if the game hasn’t been out for 10 years. I clearly stated that ETPro is NOT the most popular mod today, and that’s a hard fact - nothing else.
The most populated servers are NQ or JayMod, and sure they are probably considered “fun” mods, but still a mod…
You both have valid points. Without ETpro & ETpub W:ET wouldn’t be where it was today.
Today ETpro & ETpub aren’t the most popular. I’d actually say Silentmod, nitmod & NQ are the most popular atm since those are still updated regularly. Jaymod is slowly dying due to lack of updates.
tl;dr arguing about nothing

At this point in time? Id suppose so, but previously i find it extremely hard to believe that, that was the case
