Please Read: Upcoming Dirty Bomb Name Change and A New Partnership

@Rex haha, i didn’t expect you are that naive.

If you would develop your own game you’ll talk everybody that it is P-T-W? I don’t think so…
I couldn’t care less or be excited about the name change when I read about the partnership with Nexon.

Anyone who is a bit informed in the mmos world know about them and their reputation: over-extensive monetization, pay2win, poor support, etc
Luckily you don’t target that audience and the fps players won’t have any idea who Nexon is.

Now I feel cheated, I bought my access into the alpha because I believed in a project and it turns out it’s nothing like what I was told.
I was naive once again. I belived this was all going to be ran “in-house”, weren’t we told that’s what FireTeam & WarChest were for?

The in-game direction (eg: no real movement system) probably explains why the gameplay was leveled & dumbed down, all in perspective of Nexon’s audience. You only needed to trick what’s left of your fanbase to get some submissive & motivated players into the alpha to feed ECHO and report bugs.
Very few new players sticked with the alpha for a duration that’s worth mentionning. The biggest “shaped by gamers” so far are the ECHO charts & stats.

I guess there’s still no release date goal? Probably best to make a surprise announcement for that too.
And what about the servers? The mapping & modding community? SDK?
Still gonna dodge and use vague stuff like “we don’t know yet”?

ps: trying the “they’re good guys, they’re our buddies” approach when mentionning that the CEO is a good DB player, made me chuckle. Should have joined a photo of him posing with his dog on his frontlawn to really make this the perfect caricature.
Well said. After dropping 320$ into a game (never playing any of your previous titles) based solely on the good word of mouth from the community, I feel slighted. It is almost depressing to see how much talent this community has, and is wasted. I am no programmer, coder, anything of the sort, but changing just the name even in an Alpha stage, in my opinion shows a very unclear “roadmap” of where you want to take this game. It makes you lose confidence very quickly. I still am hoping for a good game to be produced, like I said this community seems to have a lot of good gamers.

I know you guys work hard, but a lot of the community works just as hard in reaching out to other friends, communities, etc. to drum up anticipation and business for you guys, but as of the last month or so, it just seems to be all negatives as the community just seems lost with all these sudden changes, and what Funky said, feels like a bait and switch.

SDK… I forgot to ask Epic when I met with them last week in Cologne, but I’m hoping to see Mark Rein this week in Seatle, so I will ask then…

(Seanza) #184

I never said it was the case :stuck_out_tongue:

You forgot? C’mon now Paul
There was a topic at some point where Locki said they were going to try and make it happen.

EDIT: It was a sticky, but I noticed it disappeared a while ago. Here’s the topic that led up to it though:

I was meaning to reply to stealth6’s post above…

love your post! <3

Following on from what Matt said, the critical difference is that we own Extraction/Dirty Bomb, so we can do an SDK, it’s just a question of finding the programmers and time. For BRINK, it wasn’t our decision. My ‘not that simple’ answer in Leeds was somewhat diplomatic

(iwound) #188

i hope you do. it will also mean fans creating a lot of content and keep the game fresh.

(pulley) #189

but is a SDK possible? That would mean you have to give us a Server client. I dont think Nexon will be a big fan of us having a Server Client to make our own servers…

(Evil-Doer) #190

I’m not sure what to take out of all this. I’m here for the ride and let’s see what comes of it.

(Locki) #191

Yes. We were commissioned, and that work included profit in the headroom, which we invested in new offices to make ETQW.

(Locki) #192

Yep… Our purpose with creating the Inner Circle was that we invite you to play everything we can in the future, including upcoming new games with us…

(Locki) #193
i actually see it like this

the first plan of making this game on your own, spending your earned money from previous titles and selling alpha keys didn’t work out. So you had to sell the game…
I’m just not biased towards Nexon, because I’ve never heard of them before and will form my opinion over time. That’s all.
Not sure what you mean with your second sentence , but personally I don’t worry about p2w because I believe what SD and Locki said at the first place when I joined this alpha.

This is a fair comment, and reflects what some others have said they feel in this thread. I’m glad it’s not the majority view, but I do want to address it. Our tests with classless objectives, changing the name, and announcing Nexon as our partner was anticipated to result in some confusion, which is I why I posted here for you guys first.

I respect that change causes anxiety, and I want to be clear for the couple of you that mentioned wanting money back - you don’t need any justification to exit Inner Circle… I am as obsessed with making you happy as I am avoiding your unhappiness - email me directly and I will personally arrange your refund - locki@splashdamage.com. I don’t even mind if your complain is unjust - I just want you to be happy.

For those that stick with it, we have GREAT things planned. We’re now investing much more, for much longer, than we had originally planned.

I mean that Nexon isn’t non-profit organisation and will want to quickly recover the money spent on marketing etc.

IMO even if DB/Xt will start as a fair (:)) F2P this situation won’t last long because of the new publisher who wants his money back and the quickest way is change to p-t-w model (of course thay will not calling it like that)…

(rand0m) #197

This game just gets worse and worse. Here well false advertise ET to get the money from everyone to create what we want then out of no where change it completely. There has gotta be a lawsuit somewhere here. Such bull**** in my opinion.

(Kl3ppy) #198

The only thing that disappoints me is, that you said, you will run Extraction your own. I joined the alpha and even tho I got a key I bought the Vip Founder pack because of 2 reasons:

 1. I have fate in you guys to give me the next game which keeps me active for at least 5 years
 2. I believe in your strategy of creating a complete in house game cycle including developing/publishing/running games

The first point is still up, so is my hope
The second points isnt up anymore and that disappoints me a bit. But you have to do more to get rid of me

(Humate) #199

I was invited to the alpha, and I’m grateful for that.
Good luck with the new partnership, and I hope it works out for the best.

xoxo
