Please Read: Upcoming Dirty Bomb Name Change and A New Partnership

(h2o) #201

I believe what SD says, if they said that they control this game, that you would not need to pay to win, that nexon is company who is PUBLISHING this game, then it is fine cos other Nexon players will know Dirty Bomb and will be able to play this game. I hope it works like that.

I just hope Nexon wont force you to do things which u dont want to do.

You should’ve bothered to read the next to last reply above yours.

Love how peeps are getting all hung up with the term “publisher”. Sure, publisher can also mean producer in many cases, BUT NOT IN EVERY CASE.

Take movies for example; there you got the whole production department(SD) that actually makes the movie, then you got the producer/-s(SD CEO/-s) who’d pump in the money and give the whole thing a certain direction and then, last but not least, you got the film distributor, or publisher(like Nexon), who’d care for the distribution of the final product to the theaters.

Has anyone ever feared that some distributor guy would ruin his most favorite movie franchise? See how hilarious that sounds?

(potty200) #204

I missed out on the “inner circle” due to the fact I have no funds to get me there, kinda sucks because I feel I could bring more than I am bringing now! Should start a “fund potty” project to get me a new microphone AND get me in teh inner circle!

While I understand change might be nessasary. I am very un-easy about the fact most of their titles you have to pay to do basic(ish) things. As founders, do we get addons free?

I really hope this doesn’t change the direction of ET and we end up with another game that dies after 3 months of playing, see Tribes: accend. I want to play in a game where there will be life for many years

Whatever happens, it’s been fun so far!

When the redesign / new logo’s / etc. get done can we have the launcher in white this time.

(montheponies) #206

Personally I’m not fussed by the name change - was never particularly taken with Dirty Bomb, so anything, even Extraction, is an improvement.

As for the publishing deal with Nexon, I’m unsure what to make of it - mainly because I’ve never heard of them. I think I’d have preferred to see someone better known like Steam handling the distribution, with all the benefit of the massive community already there and access to the steam workshop for the modding community (which could be monetised in a win win type way).

I’d be interested in understanding how Extraction will be marketed and differentiated from the other F2P and for that matter against boxed games (personally I’m not drawn by the F2P model at all). Time will tell I guess.

(shaftz0r) #207

not to be overly negative, but i do wonder if SD is aware of how bad of a rep nexon has. just announcing the partnership will send people running for the hills.

read these comments just as an example. keep in mind that this is a well known gamer site, and the community that lurks it is fairly knowledgeable

(mitsuhiko) #208

Why do you need the server software to play on a custom map? In theory (not saying we spent any time thinking about that) a server could download the map the same way a client does and play a community map without us giving the official server executable out to players.

This guy says it perfectly.

Cytrom says:

I wish Splash Damage could recreate the unrealistic, but fun enemy territory gameplay in a creative fresh setting, polished game mechanics that fit with the theme and execution… kinda like team fortress 2 did, but it seems to me that they simply lack the proper talent and vision to accomplish that.

Quake Wars could have been it, if they’d been more brave and creative with the scifi weapons and gadgets… and if they had a proper technical background (ie a good multiplayer game engine).

Brink could have been also great if it wasnt a technical disaster that runs like **** while having cod level of graphics (or worse), and again the guns were boring, and the classes lost a bit of their distinctiveness ,and the scale of the multiplayer game were a lot smaller than in etqw or even ET, for no apparent reason. The parkour element fitted perfectly to it though.

Here, the gameplay and the setting just clash with each other in an uncomfortable way. On the surface it looks like a modern military shooter, and has the kind of weapons and tools we expect there, yet people are just running, gunning, circlestrafing around as if it was quake… without the fun weapons, physics and tactics of quake, and I don’t see the synergy of the classes of previous ET games either, and there seems to be no grandness or epic feel to the objectives.

It pains me to see such wasted potential, because the Enemy territory style gameplay (objectives + class based multiplayer cooperation) is worth pursuing.

I guess Titanfall could have better a shot at it… but that’ll be full of paid dlcs, origin exclusivity, and its own mutated version of battlelog.
This is a fair comment, and reflects what some others have said they feel in this thread. I’m glad it’s not the majority view, but I do want to address it. Our tests with classless objectives, changing the name, and announcing Nexon as our partner was anticipated to result in some confusion, which is I why I posted here for you guys first.

I respect that change causes anxiety, and I want to be clear for the couple of you that mentioned wanting money back - you don’t need any justification to exit Inner Circle… I am as obsessed with making you happy as I am avoiding your unhappiness - email me directly and I will personally arrange your refund - locki@splashdamage.com. I don’t even mind if your complain is unjust - I just want you to be happy.
What would make me happy is not a refund, but the game which is sold here https://secure.warchest.com/dirtybomb/ (references of ET).

I understand that the ET/ETQW fan whom I am, who search a fast FPS with a lot of teamplay, is not the public targeted by this game.
Yes, I understand… but I would like to see more honesty, with no false hopes and with some clear precisions of what Splash Damage aims with this game (gameplay and public targeted).

Nothing there says you’re getting ET2.0 or whatever you think…

I’m not going to comment on the partnership with Nexon due to my lack of knowledge regarding the company. If SD believes that it’s the right direction and the partnership doesn’t mean that SD have to develop the game “for someone else”, I’m all for the changes.

The name change does come as a bit of a blow though. Dirty Bomb is a pretty solid name for a game (although I can understand why could be hard using it in these times) which also describes the background and/or setting for the game itself. Extraction, for me, doesn’t really have that… punch. I’m sure this would all change if I could get some more background on how that name was brought up in the first place and how it was imagined to portray the game.

However my main concern is servers. How is this going to work? Lobby based (like Combat Arms? (No thanks)), “old school” server browser and rental? “CS:GO system”? What are we dealing with? This is such a crucial part of a competitive FPS success.

Personally I thought DB was a bit of an ill name. There really isn’t much about dirty bombs in the actual game play so to me, while it fit with background settings, it did not fit with the gameplay. Most of the maps objectives do have some measure of extracting things so yeah… I am okay with the change.

How about using this forum and give us the opportunity to submit a design for it ? That would ignite some interest in the VIP section.

Here we go again… the only reference you see on that page to ET was made by ME, not SD… that’s why it’s in quotation marks.

(ailmanki) #217

Still SD choose that quote, and a quote from loffy … would they had also taken your quote if you had said it captures the magic of BRINK?

(DarkangelUK) #218

Hah now there’s a thought, maybe they would have went :o and started all over

(Protekt1) #219

And not only that the “magic” of ET is highly subjective. I feel like that is a true statement but someone else may disagree.

(Dragonji) #220

It does not capture the magic of ET (which is mainly the engine and its features), it never did, not saying it is a bad thing but the quote is misleading as people who consider paying for access might think SD is developing ET/QW 2.
