I doubt we will see a SDK, maybe as a last resort if the game fails.

German I take it? No I am not going to burn it if it arrives with a more gamey name on it, I just will never put it on outside the house and I am just a bit miffed about it given the expense.
I enjoy a extensive gamut of games if anything I should be THANKING Splash Damage as I bothered to sit a play fallen enchantress
And with regards to my down rep downgrade “Surely “by a better wrench” would make it pat-to-win?? Not gonna happen”.
Mr Smooth
Look at it way, just because you might be able to purchase upgrades, items, guns or anything not nailed down so to speak. Without using real money simply does not detract, that it could well be on the cards given. The phrase “to make players feel not locked out of classes” set’s alarm bells ringing . From a monetisation stand point it would make perfect sense. Given the factor that drives the F2P system is you earn in game currency so slow as to actively encourage expenditure, or sell hats if you are valve. By default someone who is willing to throw down additional funds should have some sort of advantage from the games inception (and rightly so I might add).
Unless the F2P model that you use will somehow incorporate the standard time sink that everybody has to use, and only mitigates it to a certain degree (think buffs). Rather than outright purchase or purchase, at least after a pre-determined amount of time per merc based on the average unlock per character ratio (including buffs at a reduced time and higher price tag). Then no amount of reassurance with rather short “not gonna happen” is going to cut it, it will be like most other F2P games. The only F2P games I spend any real time on are Tribes, SMITE & SWTOR two have a one off payment the other a subscription, guess what I did?
(and still spent some additional money the gimp that I am on skins and such).
[narrows eyes] mmm. i did see something along the lines of sdk tools programmer.
i thought it strange sdk was added to the tweet. i know your asking for tool programmers. probably a typo.
i took a screenie but didnt post.
but yes i could be mistaken.
The Application/SDK tools position is for providing SDKs for internal and external services, not specifically things like level editors and other game-specific SDK tools.
It wouldn’t be needed unless there’s a big demand for modding. If the game fails, then I doubt an SDK would do much for the bigger picture either way.
fail… pfftt… ye of little faith.
A level editor at some point would be good for community map making competitions. And if single-play challenge maps are still a possibility… the potential there is fairly decent for use too.
Well I just don’t understand that logic. Why does a game become less appealing? (why does a popular game from 10 years ago not stand a chance today?)
The only thing I can think of is that gameplay constantly evolves adding new stuff etc, but in that case you could still transfer the core gameplay and build on that (as other franchises have done)
Also I think 1% is a bit over exaggerated. Maybe only a smallish percentage has actually played the game, but I think quite a lot of people know what it is.
I am a regular W:ET player and I don’t think that the whole world is waiting for W:ET 2, but I do think it could catch on if a similar game is released. Why? Seems like every few years somebody grabs a very old thing, mixes it up and releases it as something new. This hasn’t happened for W:ET yet, even though W:ET has known some success in the past. Therefore my hope was that SD might take a stab at it, them being the original devs and all… This was initally reinforced by the class / objective gameplay, remake of maps & F2P title. But as the alpha has progressed it has steadily moved away from this instead of moving towards it so at this point I don’t think it’s going to happen.
I’m on the fence about it though since if they do try to make a remake people are going to be constantly comparing it to W:ET and trying to get more stuff from W:ET into the game (as we have seen).
The logic behind it is, that things usually change for a reason(NOT necessarilly for a good reason, but because some majority demands it; actively, or passively). And the audience*, passively, or actively, voted for TDM with occassional “press F” objectives strewn in. That’s the trend. And even though SD definitelly hasn’t invented it, or even despise the mere idea of that kinda gameplay, they have to incorporate it in DB/Extraction, at least to a certain extend. A too steep learning curve(of the overall gameplay) in a F2P title is a risk you can’t really demand people to take.
And don’t get me wrong, I think I’d have liked W:ET and QW:ET just as much as you guys, especially considering, that I like BRINK’s and DB’s objective gameplay. And even though you guys say, that those games aren’t really in the spirit of the ET games, I think they are still more ET(both) than anything else out there.
And my stating, that prolly less than 1% of the gaming com would even know about W:ET was really a bit exaggerated(in order to make a point), but then again, when you think about it, how many PC gamers do we have out there? There must be a couple hundred millions; and if so, that would mean in return, that a couple million gamers would know of W:ET, or even had played it; wich is quite a large number I’d say. But whatever, this number was completelly out of my “A”, as you’ve obviously already imagined.
*(the gaming com, not the DB testers)
That means our involvement will continue well after release, and we’ll bring you regular game updates, new features and functionality, and content updates
Problem is you have said from the get-go that you want to have the game as Free-to-Play/Win and not Pay-to-Win, but the real question is whether or not you are going to charge for certain functionality and certain content(e.g. maps mainly) that would directly impact the over-all community rather than just content hat is completely superficial, because if you look at what iD did to Quakelive they completely segregated the community and killed the game via the way their premium subscription system works in regards to maps, not to mention the fact that alot of old competitive Quake3 maps were remade for Quakelive then purposefully put into a premium-only map line up…
And then what sort of pressure can Nexon put on the development team? are they purely just running ‘X’ services and not ‘Y’ services, and you guys will hold complete control over any and all game elements? Because after the farce that was Brink, and the lack of support Brink/ETQW was given post-release its become exceedingly hard to trust the developmental process that seems to be the go at SplashDamage, I mean i love playing your games, and have sunk more hours than i would be willing to admit into pretty much all of your releases but at what stage should we trust that investing a serious amount of time into a title that is Free-to-Play and trusting it will be around long-term, considering W:ET promod was pretty much a requirement to fix/turn ET into the game it is today, should we be completely trusting that DB/Extraction will get the amount of attention it deserves in the long run? for public and competitive play alike
Extraction… hm, feels like there’s something missing, like Stuff Extraction or Extraction Stuff. something to put a slightly unique twist on it.
on the other hand, i’m really looking forward to seeing whatever backstory you come up with now that you seem to have painted yourself out of that particular corner. (maybe some sort of death clock…?)
Just read thisand it sounds like the classless objective is final. Also It sounds final that we will have a split community since the article writes that Extraction is coming to PC in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Is this just saying that nexon will publish xt in this countries and other companies publish it in other countries, like russia?
I really like the new name guys, much better then Dirty Bomb.
Nexon on the other hand would not be my choice… I’ve played Maplestory (long time ago) and that is 100% pay-to-win, imo… Don’t know about their other games… but we’ll see…
Offtopic: Go buy Nexon shares now?!!?!?! They’ll rise in a few hours

It’s normal for certain countries to be playing the same exact game, but under a different name because of their laws or whatever. Still doesn’t stop them from having international clients or having access to those outside their country.
Yes, sure. But keep in mind that the CIS states already have a different alpha/client. That worries me the most tbh.
If i will have choice which version play (DD one, or Nexon one), its ok for me. But if not, i see no reason to play in russian reservation, i leave this to cod-kisds ;o
Can anybody explain to a pleb why it’s so hard to allow all players to play in all regions? What happened to connect to IP?
RIP Dirty Bomb aka Extraction
EDIT: In all seriousness, giving Nexon “full control” of a game that’s being developed by a company that is strongly taking into the competitive side of the game, and developing the game’s balance after competitive looks on the game, and a competitive e-sports like mindset, is the worst Partnership I’ve ever seen a big time name sign off to.
This must be a joke… have you guys not seen what f2p companies do to games? This is just ridiculous. Guess you want the game to die a horrible flaming death with nukes attached to every crevice.
