Please, help me. I can't even install.

Sounds like bad RAM to me…

I believe MAN-AT-ARMS is right on this one. I was experiencing the same problems shmegegge and Rainman2784 described where the wolf installer would halt due to an “I/O error”. The problem remained even when I tried downloading the file from different servers. So I decided to download a memory checker to test my system’s RAM. Sure enough, one of the modules failed the test and so I opened up the system, removed the faulty module, and ran the test again. The remaining RAM modules passed perfectly. After redownloading the wolf installer, the game installed without a hitch. Hope that helps, peace.

I didn’t think the RAM in all my computers would go bad at once.

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us here at Activision. This seems
related to a bad download. I personally had two bad downloads in a row so I
switched sites I was downloading from and I was able to install just fine the
next time.

Before you download it again (since this is really the only option, sorry) clear
out your temporary internet files and delete the installer.

Go to c:\windows emporary internet files\ Remove all of the contents of that
folder.

All background applications must be shutdown prior to downloading/installing the
game.

 1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del keys to bring up the Close Program window.
 2. The only programs you need to leave open are Systray and Explorer.
 3. Highlight the program you want to close and click on the End Task button.
 4. Continue closing programs until only Systray and Explorer are left.

Also I would try downloading from a different location. I got it successfully
from the following site.

I just got done reading this thread and had a thought. I don’t mean to troll but please hear me out.

Getting a piece of software to run on a computer can be a real pain in the ass. But if you enjoy computers (hardware and software) it sometimes can be fun to figure out problems. It sounds as if some of you are willing to devote a few hours installing software if you need to, have to, or well…just used to it. :bump:

If you are willing to devote a few hours try installing another operating system as well. I have been using Linux for the past three years and found it quite exciting. I don’t have time to play all the games so the ones that are available for Linux do me just fine. And well…ET has been taking up all of my gaming time lately.

It comes in many flavors:

Slackware

Debian

Mandrake

…and well too many others to metion here. :fiesta:

If you like to read check out:

Linux Documentation Project

games.slashdot.org (Yeah the purple font is tough)

freshmeat.net (Free software)

If you have an nVidia card they have awesome Linux support now with a fancy installer.

nVidia GeForce2 GTS [ 1.0-4363 ]
