PLEASE don't change the AI just to appease the idiotic masses!

First off: I am new here and I LOVE this game. I love this game more than the Ghostbusters love New York City. Brink is the the perfect mix of FPS and strategy. Thanks! It is, so far, worth every single one of the 6,000 pennies I paid for it.

Next: I just saw this video on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM-3RQ3C66c

Great interview and I hope this can ease some of the complainers’ minds out there about the “bad” AI. I love that the AI plays a support role and dishes out revive kits and buffs when they can. I also like that the “easy” AI acts like a noob, kinda standing still at times, or going the wrong way. Makes them seem more human.

I also DON’T want my AI teammates automatically going for the main objectives all the time. What fun would that be to just sit in the spawn area and let the bots play the entire game? Yeah, boring.

I am all for some AI tweaks to fix strange behavior, like true bugs (bots never moving or being TKers or whatever issues are identified). But please don’t make this game easier for dumbasses by making the friendly AI do all of the good stuff.

That’s all I got for now.

you have to literally kill 90% of the enemies for the AI to complete the objective. If you want to do it yourself you have to kill 90% AND do the objective yourself, there doesn’t seem to be any other way to beat solo campaign.

(TheBigLebowski) #3

Well the difference between enemy AI and friendly AI is terrible.

(Gamer2Gamers) #4

yeah, the ENEMY AI is fine people are really discussing the fact that the friendly AI is beyond atrociously stupid.

(SmokeCheeba) #5

Well, the enemy AI needs to be tuned a little to not act like perfect aimbots…except only on hard I guess.

Nice too see Richard Ham not answer the question put forward to him about party matchmaking, I felt uncomfortable for him but the answer to the question is you can’t jump into a game as a party.

If you can’t answer that simple question truthfully then how are we going to believe any other statement you come out with…Do you see?

I know they can change some values on their side for the bot control but this is not an excuse for not beta testing the game. If you had then you would not have all these complaints, or better yet, allow the player to set these values then everyone can have the game they want to play. As it stands it just feels as though the bot’s just try and string out matches to hide the current lack of content so the game is not completed (single player that is) a couple of hours.

Lets hope the developers can come clean with it’s customers soon and maybe, just maybe, they can salvage some of their reputation.

Haha, what Richard Ham says at the start of the video. I was so sure this was the case after playing both campaigns cause really, bots aren’t any help to you until like the last minute

I don’t see the AI issues you guys are talking about with the friendly AI.

I play on the 360, I’ve played solo, with 1 friend and up to 3 other friends all on the same team (4 human+4 bots vs 8 bots). The friendly AI has been great. They do side objectives like building/destroying barricades, escorting the hostage, buffing health and ammo, and reviving us humans when we go too Rambo and get mowed down. They even assist with the main objective at times as well. While I was the Engineer fixing the crane on one of the first Security levels, I’ve has 1 or 2 other bots help me out. Also, when I was supporting one of my human teammates who was hacking a terminal, another friendly bot showed up and also helped with the hacking.

Seriously, I do not see what is wrong with the friendly AI. My friends and I played about 3 or 4 private matches and we won them all (but it was a struggle). Our teammate AI was very helpful doing many of the things I listed above.

They do a good job supporting, they don’t get in my way, they buff and revive us, the do side objectives, and they assist on main objectives. I need to see some video proof of what you’re complaining about. I’ll try to setup my capture machine soon and run my 360 through that, then post what I’m seeing.

The more i play SP (PS3) the more I dont see the enemy playing like they have no clue. If I stick with the team, play smart, and dont act like a idiot my team does the same thing. Maybe we all need to change our play style a bit and the AI will act more like us. I had the hardest time beating the first Challenge mission on two stars. It beat me to death so many times in a row. But last night I was taking a different approach with missions and playing very cautiously and I beat it on the first try. I really think that is the difference, just playing smarter on our behalfs.

Did you see me and want to be me??? Sorry but I was the Dude first here bro. Even taking my Avatar??? Not to get off topic but its funny.

(Kurushi) #11

The AI has been excellent for me for most of the campaign. I’ll happily play it again but in coop this time. No rush to go online just yet :>

(FPS_Steve) #12

I’ll give you an example of where the AI sucks. Mission 2 of the Security campaign.

The last item you have to do is deliver the “flag” to the dropoff point. The Bots insist on continually fighting over the supply/health command points instead of either assisting the flag carrier, or at a bare minimum cleaning out the dropoff point so that the flag can be dropped off.

I have also tried that mission by letting the bots carry the flag. That didn’t work so well since the flag carrier REFUSED to turn in the flag while there was even a single enemy bot on his radar. Several times he started to turn it in, an enemy showed up, and while I was dealing with the enemy he broke off from completing the objective to fight the guy I was killing. This kept happening till I got killed, then he ran around till he got killed. All the while I kept hearing about the control points being gained and lost…and no backup arrived.

So yeah, the bots need to be fixed.

This man has been QFT!

(SinDonor) #14

Last night, we got another one of my friends to play Brink. Just so he didn’t get too angry getting killed by human opponents, we played a couple of games vs AI bots. After two wins in a row, I asked if we wanted to go online vs humans (warning that it might be a bit crazier and there are some random lag issues on the 360 version). He said “No way, this is fun! Let’s keep fighting the bots!”

Allllll right…

(MrLevi) #15

I’m not against the bots not always grouping up to do the main objectives, but I do insist that if I escorted a bot of the appropriate class all the way to the objective he should at least try to complete the objective instead of standing around looking for something to shoot.

Hmmm, I did not see this issue at all. Me and 2 of my friends (1 Engineer (me), 1 Medic and 1 Assault) all had the “Deliver the datakey” as our objective. I carried it mostly, eventhough I was a heavy and soooo slow. But I could take a lot of damage. 3 of our AI teammates were all next to us. When my human medic teammate went down, I got revived by an AI bot medic. We all were able to stick together and deliver the “flag”. It was awesome.

I’m not saying I don’t believe you, but maybe there’s something we’re doing differently than you to be successful? I dunno.

(SinDonor) #17

I’ll try this tomorrow if I get a chance to play before playing hockey and bar hopping. I’ll play a solo private match, with Easy bots, and I’ll set my objective to “Escort the bot”. Let you know what happens.

(Ragoo) #18

Seems they adressed the issue in the new patch already.

(MrLevi) #19

Okay. Try a hacking objective too, since I’ve had the least success getting bots to do those. I’ve been playing on normal difficulty.

Ah, you might be right. That will be good.

(SinDonor) #20

Wait, which issue? The “standing around doing nothing” bot that you’re escorting?
