This wasn’t as much of a problem in the good old days, with DEDICATED SERVERS that had well configured bots, built in tools or active Admins to keep shit balanced. But hey it’s 2015, this is PROGRESS right?
Playing with friends - The struggle.
‘bohoo i can’t stomp pubs anymore with my buddies’
‘you get steamrolled, or you stomp the opponent, its all about the average amounts of wins on pubs, right?’
‘I want a relaxing stomp with me friends’
‘i have to play seriously if i want to play with my friends - stopwatch is extremely serious, so no good’
how this page reads.
on 7v7 and 8v8 it wouldnt hurt if you could team up with a friend. that would hardly be any kind of pup stomping, would it?
I think this a best compromise in the current situation, given how joining games in DB works and game modes it has. DB has 3 modes - objective, stopwatch, competitive stopwatch.
Want to play casual randomness - objective
Want to play casual with your mates - stopwatch
There needs to be a mode for people playing solo. Stomps are not fun. On the other hand I understand that playing with friends makes the game fun in the long run. I’m fine with making non-competitive stopwatch a mode for that.
In an ideal world DB would have 100K+ concurrent players and a MM system that would handle parties and solo queueing. Maybe someday.

Why do I have to play seriously in order to play with friends? Like… If you choose to play CASUAL obviously you want to play casually. Smh.
Agreed. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough. If you want to 100% play with your friends in a team, that means you want to be communicating and be serious about your game, so go comp.
Otherwise, what’s the issue of playing versus your friend or friends? That’s still having fun and playing with them. So that’s why I don’t see the issue.
First off… I highly doubt you have friends, no offense. If you had friends, I have no clue how you’d support this. “Play seriously with friends?” What? The point of a game is to have fun right? Even more so with friends? We’re talking about casual play here. If the complaints are that teams are unbalanced sometimes… It’s C.A.S.U.A.L. My girl and I get stomped sometimes and other times we steam roll. You win some, you lose some. If you wanna talk about balance and matchmaking then competitive is where you wanna focus your attention… Not casual. This is a complete joke.
I do have currently 7 friends who play this game, three regularly and the other 4 once in a while. And there is no issue in playing pubs with us being on opposite teams. That’s why we’re friends, because we don’t get pissed at each other or upset if we get shot by each other. Actually, this is one way we get to improve and actually have some challenge. If we feel like playing in the same team seriously, a.k.a. communicating and wrecking things, then we go to comp. It’s as simple as that and the fact that you want to be playing with friends in pubs consistently and cannot stand the current system just shows that you’re part of the problem of unbalanced games. You’re one of those who would keep on playing on a team raping the other just because you want to feel like a king instead of actually making the game better for everyone. Look at the big picture and be less selfish. That’s how I have my opinion and friends. If everyone would think like you, there soon wouldn’t be any more players to play with.

How do I agree, like and LOL this at the same time? The forum’s mechanics want me to decide. Unfair.
Easy fix : create servers allowing “teamstack”, or a non-competitive “play with friends” system. Like this, everybody will be happy. Those who like being social will be able to play with friends in game again, and those who doesn’t like team stacking can still enjoy a fair match.
This change was the best thing happened to DB since a long time. Finally more balanced objective games, far less spawnkilling and more fun games. People that complain about playing with friends should just go play stopwatch.
Then go stopwatch
In NZ on the Oceania servers I’ve waited with a mate 30-40 minutes to try (and fail) to get a competitive game going. It’s been over a month since I’ve been able to play this game mode, and I’ve given up on any competitive missions. There just don’t seem to be the games / players available for this (or game infrequency after 5:00pm).
I enjoy stopwatch, I do, but sometimes I just want to attack or defend and then see another map. To know that me and a mate can’t do that on the same team because we might stomp pubs… just ridiculous. I’m average, he’s still learning, but because other players stomped all over game “x” the entire base becomes unable to complete this simple task that’s available relatively easy in every game? Sure there will be players where this will occur, but I do enjoy that challenge when I’m on the other team. I imagine all that will occur is the mid/start of match team change (should there not be a full 6v6/7v7/8v8… hell already did it tonight to play with my “pub stomping mate”).
Control it sure. Maybe it’s 7v7/8v8 2-3 player groups max, and only one per game. Surely there is a way to make casual games more enjoyable by playing with your mate?

You don’t seem to realize that not everyone enjoys playing against their friends. I can’t stand it, it’s not enjoyable at all. You can start psychoanalyzing that or just accept that people have different ways of having fun. I couldn’t care less if I lost while having fun interacting with a friend on the same team. Don’t make this about player ego and selfishness. wtf

I don’t mind competing with them. Competing against them is what I don’t like.

Well how about this: If you don’t like it, don’t play it. Besides what’s the difference between playing against your friends and playing against strangers? The only difference is you know them. Otherwise, they’re still players. It is exactly about you wanting to feel superior by having a helping hand against people who don’t. Don’t try to bullshit your way out.
Having friends that you enjoy working together with is now feeling superior and bullshit?

Haha, joker detected.
I do have friends I play in-game with, but contrary to the people disliking the new system I am aware that working together is an unfair advantage against those who are not playing with friends. And in the light of it, I do think it is in everyone’s interest for a balanced game if me and my friends get split up. If I do want to go and enjoy working together for success, I go play comp, where other people are matched to actually compete with us and not be stomped. That’s what you all should do if you want to play with your friends. Complaining here just makes you not only sound like kids scared of competitive, but also like you can’t handle playing without the help of your friends, especially in pubs! What kind of newbies are you?
Let’s get really serious for a moment: how many times have you had a balanced game, I mean really neck a neck type of game in pubs, when you were in the same team as your friends? At least I have always felt like the other team could use some help when I was playing with my friends in my team in pubs. Never has there been an opposing team with enough drive to keep their heads afloat. That’s why the current system is the right way to go.
I only hate playing against my friends because they’re still learning, I’m far ahead and it’d just be a slaughter.
My friend Hunter just started playing on PC this year, just built his rig. Playing against him is unfair as hell, I have been playing PC since 2009 and at this point I’m just obsessing over hardware. Mouse sensor, mouse pad material, etc. He’s still getting used to playing with a mouse.
As I said on the patch note topic, putting a team lock in place is quite harsh for players and don’t involve them in team balancing at all.
But let’s be quite clear on this, team stack is an issue right now because skill levels are an awful patchwork even on level 10+ servers. When I’m set with 3 other friends in the same team, unless there’s some people with around the same skill in front of us, I know this will be a guaranteed win. No challenge, no fun, no interest for both teams.
So, to guarantee involvement of players in team balance, I’d call for money income not being linear with the duration of the game (+/- the win bonus, it totally is currently). If we take as granted the basic principle that a balanced game will inevitably last longer than totally sided one, the longer the game the more credits/min you’ll earn.
And by the way, team stack is mainly due to major skill gaps between players. Thanks to no server rental available, this will be a donkey ass problem for a long time. Be assured of it. When there’s rental servers, vets usually stay on their favoured server and won’t necessarily go on official ones and have no choice than stomping poor dudes. Skills gaps on a same server will narrow and team stack will become a lesser issue.

very true.
I don’t think credit incentives will be enough though; as some people just enjoy the stomp, and don’t play for credits as much as they play for k/d.
rental-servers would solve this completely, as there would be no reason for forcing this type of lobby. Maybe even select few servers in browser could use the old lobby, but a quickplay game? Imo the present system works adequately to make balanced games. Haven’t seen a single stomp yet, and thats a big difference.

If you don’t want to play against your friends that completely fine.
Just play comp with them.
It still blows my mind how you don’t understand that COMPETITIVE DIRTY BOMB IS LOCKED TO 5V5 STOPWATCH.
Want to play a 6v6 or 8v8 objective? Forget it. If you have friends, you are forced to a 5v5 competitive format. Oh, and you can’t drop in and drop out. What if one of your friends abandons the comp game? What if you have friends, some you like to play casually with and others competitively because you care about your MMR rank?
Never in the history of video games have I seen a system like this.
EVER.
Surprisingly, there are people out there with friends that want to play casually. Pair those parties against each other. It’s seriously not that hard to understand. It’s called unranked games and most games have this option. LOL, DOTA, HOTS, Rocket League. Even CSGO.
