Playing consoles

(Lachoc101) #1

I have played playstation since ps2 and most of my friends have always been on xbox i was wondering if it is possible if even if i play on ps3 or xbox or pc i can play with them

You can play only with friends who are playing on the same console that you are playing on. (If you are playing on the PS3, you can play online with other PS3 owners.)

Buy an XBox if you want to play on Live.

Everyone must have the same system to interact with each other. I don’t know of any successful game that has ever not had this restriction.

If you are asking about cross platform multiplayer, it won’t be in Brink.

It definitely will never be between PS3 and 360 at any point. It was done before between 360 and PC but isn’t done often at all, with PS3 getting Steamworks support now maybe they will progress to cross platform with PC at some point. As of now, cross platform isn’t done, it is just too hard to balance, and KB/M vs controller isn’t really a fair fight besides all the other issues involved in making the platforms play nice together.

EDIT: Wow, double ninjad.

It’s not a game based restriction, Auzner. Microsoft & Sony don’t want users to be able to play with owners of the other console.

(Auzner) #6

I meant as a concept. Just because a game is released for PC, 360, PS3, Wii, DS, PSP doesn’t mean they’re all the exact same and all interact across each other. I don’t understand why this is still uncertain to people. I guess before consoles were networked it was easier to make sense of? Now that there’s an “online” it’s assumed that they can all have the same protocols and interact.

Also, aren’t there minor differences like weapon stats between each platform?

(Maawdawg) #8

I haven’t heard of any weapon differences from platform to platform at all.

(RadBrad31) #9

I also haven’t heard any discrepencies between consoles. I think most devs nowadays try to make it pretty equal so they don’t get accused of fanboying and get blacklisted by certain die-hard console lovers.

Cross-platform PS3-Xbox360 will 99% probably never happen. Xbox Live costs money, PS3 is free, and they are in direct competition of each other. By opening up cross platforms, you’ve eliminated the need for a PS3 player to buy an Xbox to play with his buddy on Live, and vice versa.

We’ll see in a few days… (Portal 2 release).

(Seyu) #11

There was Shadowrun.

(BioSnark) #12

It’s not pvp so it works. Same with Dungeon Defenders.

apparently, microsoft won’t allow cross-platform for xbox, regardless of the genre.

Except they are for Portal 2.

(BioSnark) #14

what part of my post are you responding to?

(Atavax) #15

portal2 does not allow cross platform play with the xbox, only the pc/mac/ps3.

(LyndonL) #16

Ah my bad. I read something the other day saying the opposite. The internet… so full of authorative information.

(Herandar) #17

Because of Shadowrun?

(Seyu) #18

Shadowrun’s tanking didn’t help either.

(Maawdawg) #19

The first Lost Planet also had cross platform PC/360. I think it was the last game to do so.

Intereting article, but it is entirely hearsay, and I’ve read a couple of stories in the past that say the exact opposite of what the guy in this article is saying.

This is the very first time I’ve heard of this. I wonder how it played out, if it ever really got off the ground.
