Player toxicity

So sorry if you feel like I or another moderator had to mod you for something that you >feel in unfair, but we were really just doing our job.

(Yes, I also mod the Warframe forums. Ever heard of D20 ? Well now you did. :stuck_out_tongue: )

It was [DE]Danielle, not you
I just wanted to point out, that if you are not allowed to tell your opinion then there is no reason to have a chat/forums. You can communicate with voice commands as well in game.

What would be next? You can’t type “don’t be a dick?”

(Eox) #22

I never said users are not allowed to voice their opinion.

(ThunderZsolt) #23

I know. That part wasn’t directed to you, but in general why I brought up the warframe forums

(KangaJoo) #24

I don’t think reporting players you find offensive so the devs can ban them either temporarily or permanently is the right way to go about it. What they should do is properly implement a block communications function. One that permanently blocks all forms of communication, both voice and text, and at all times, not just in the match itself. That way idiots are easy to deal with but they still get to play the game.

(ClemClem7) #25

@Eox Can people share their opinion by data-mining the game files then ?
Ahem… , I think I’m a bit off thread

Being capable of filtering what’s worth paying attention to/stressing over is a sign of maturity. I consider people who overreact because someone is having a tantrum or throwing around insults (of any kind, even racial, religious or whatever) to be on the same level as the ones throwing them. Muting such people is enough, yes - and that goes for both sides, muting the ones throwing insults or overreacting to them.

I personally find people who troll a game/intentionally sabotage their team because friends are on the other side, who excessively boast over a win to the point it’s just trying to humiliate the other side, etc. to be much more toxic than someone throwing inane insults, but I won’t go asking for bans on them.

Otherwise, I find it insulting that people want measures to be taken over such tiny, irrelevant and - most important of all - extremely subjective thing, which should be dealt with maturely instead. Can we, who disagree, get you guys reported, lest we risk moving on towards Washed Up Social Justice Bomb?

(M4st0d0n) #27

Can we get the man up / maturity stuff out of the equation, those arguments are stupid. Mr Spock is a rational being. Very adult and mature. He don’t feel emotionally involved when facing an insulting random internet troll, but he can see the rationale behind a game company sanctioning a few members of their customer’s community, when they threaten users retention. Report and ban system are implemented in the major multiplayer release nowadays and it’s not because AAA companies are social justice warriors…

No, I’m unable to disconsider maturity, take it out of the equation or not consider it an integral part of life that still should be applied to multiplayer entertainment. But when you consider being mature enough to deal with people throwing tantrums or overreacting to be “stupid,” there isn’t really much I could add. Except, maybe, that this game being rated as “M” makes that ironic.

Please try your best to read whole posts. You can do it. While you’re at it, try to read your EULA too.

Ah let me help you with this my partially able to read friend.
Code of conduct on the warchest side, point 1. That’s the first point.

"1. Your Use of the Services Generally

You will not use our games or interactive services for any unlawful purpose or in any manner not intended by Warchest.

You will use our games and interactive services in a manner that is respectful of all other players."

I invite you to read the rest and know what they can legally do with offensive players accounts.

I read whole posts, but I only address the part that matters, leaving out what’s irrelevant - such as the assumption that it’s better for player retention to cater to “muh feels” instead of sticking to the expectation of a mature player base. While you’re at it, notice that despite what you might want to wave the EULA around about, this game has been going on for years and there’s been no “They hurt my feelings” report option ever, has it?

PS: “You will use our games and interactive services in a manner that is respectful of all other players.” yes? Well, I find your disdain for maturity, to the point of calling it “stupid,” to be quite disrespectful to me and to the concept of maturity itself. Guess you have to stop playing now, because you’re being subjectively disrespectful.

I invite you to [become what shall remain unsaid, since you consider it stupid] and understand what that sort of clause means, why it’s always so open-ended and vague, and why it’s only enforced in very extreme and rare cases.

(Ivanhoemx) #31

The old and absurd “oh thoughen up, grow up, mature” argument. This is not about feelings getting hurt. I, as a mexican, have had my fare share of insults directed towards me just for being mexican. I’m able to ignore them most if not all times, but that does not exclude the need to be able to report such behaviour. A mature person is able to not be a dick, that argument should be thrown the other way around.

Toxic (be it sexist, racist, or just general assh*les who get salty after they get killed many times by a player) people should face consequences for their behaviour, otherwise THEY will never grow up of their ways. Normalizing such behaviour does have consequences on the real world, and taking the side of the 12 or 30 year old hurling racial slurs because “it’s a joke man, grow up” does not make you smarter than everyone else, it exposes you as a willfull ignorant and immature person.

(BloodySin) #32

So your answer is “they are being immature, so I’ll throw a tantrum too, but in the other direction, because it’s not immature when I do it.” Got it. Takes me back to kindergarten too.

The consequences such people should face are just to be muted or kicked from the group. They aren’t actually doing anything detrimental by themselves - unless you go into “muh hurt feelings” grounds. They don’t make the game lag, they don’t make it so your character gets debuffed, they don’t affect the balance of the game mechanics in any way. They only affect (or are ignored by) your feelings.

Pretty sure EULA’s are unenforceable by this point

Just because it’s in writing and you signed it doesn’t mean it’s legally binding. Contract law is a thing :stuck_out_tongue:

Sometimes you get that bad egg who acts like a badass because he is hiding behind a wall of anonymity…it sucks but it happens. Sometimes you get lucky and the coward talks like a badass then puts you on ignore. Had that once recently…but I got the last word in the lobby then left

But honestly…what I find more annoying and sometimes even more common is the scrub that got carried by his team than spouts off how EZ it was even though he was at the bottom of the scoreboard with a negative K/D ratio.

(TheStrangerous) #35

“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” Mark Twain

(Eox) #36

To clear things out. This has nothing to do with so called “social justice” or some kind of tumblrish bullcrap. It’s not about fighting with the idiots who might start going apeshit in your games by throwing words at them in return. It’s about keeping your games and the games of other players as enjoyable as possible. You just report abusive players silently.

By the way, I asked to @stayfreshshoe what he thought about OP’s suggestion. Here’s his answer :

It’s indeed something we want and need, however we need to create a whole system for it as we don’t support it at the moment. Our current focus is on getting Casual Matchmaking out of the door, then we can start to focus on other features.

CMM hype I guess, but let’s stay on topic.

No, data mining is not allowed as far as I know. And yes, you are off topic. :stuck_out_tongue:

LMFAO… i love those guys, take note of their names and when you next see them ingame remind them in chat that’s its GG EZ and then proceed to kill them and T Bag them over and over until they learned their lesson

Keep in mind also that Psychological Warfare and Tactical Strategies are commonly used in DB for both breaking down and intimidating the enemies.

Playyyyyyyy Dirtyyyyyyyyyyyy.

I totally agree with OP. Sometimes insulting can be humour or sarcasm. I dont want to get rid of everything, but then there are sometimes very insipid “jokes” around. I can see some people get offended easily and that can harm team morale. Intelligent team balance might help here, if you put insulters to other team and appropriate people to other. Even I get silently offended when someone is insulting someone and that might cause conflict of interest. Next match when I’m with insulter team, I will try not to play with him/her or them. I quess this kind of behaviour can be counted some form of insulting aswell and could be targeted in larger scale that cause even more babel. Derogatory jokes have already repulse one of my friend. I know most of the players are probably adults in their age, but insipid insulting can easily lead to immature impression. Some childs might have better netiquette than adults, but then good community could be Dirty Bombs best asset.

I think Dirty Bomb should aim to have atleast as good community as Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. I quess you dont really choose the players or community.

if you shrug off the toxicity, you win.
