Player toxicity

(Ax0r) #1

I’m sure you all had games with one or more players constantly swearing at people or just being offensive all game long. Now while this isn’t that much of an issue with one or two game but when it comes down to multiple games a day it starts getting annoying. My biggest concur, is that how little can be done against these types of these players:
You can only vote kick if you are on the same team with him/her (which I understand since otherwise losing teams could abuse this feature for their own benefit).
The other option would be reporting however as I noticed the in game reporting system only has 2 options: Hacking/cheating and offensive name (which I don’t understand since this game uses steam names and the last thing anyone would care about is a child with the name “Hitler”).
This often means you cannot do anything against such behaviour since players on the same team often tend to “babysit” these toxic people.
My suggestion is actually rather simple: add offensive behaviour as an option to the in game reporting system and if a player receives too many of these reports take care of it. Don’t let crude people run free, thinking they can say anything they want without any consequences.

I reported a kid recently constantly swearing at the opposite team. Because there was no “abusive behaviour” option in the in game report system, I just selected “offensive name” and hoped it would actually be checked out.

Either way, that suggestion would be a good improvement for sure. I don’t even know why it’s not a thing as of today.

Mute them? Or just use hudturnoff chat.

Mute doesn’t work while you are in the lobby, only while in game. Good advice regardless.

Also I prefer having the chat enabled in case there are nice people on the server…

I have skillz of ignoring people.

But i would like to point out that it is an “M” rated game, so if you can’t handle swearing then why are you playing it? I understand that it’s not pleasant to hear all the time, but I think you are overreacting a little bit.

Ignoring those kind of behaviour is the reason why a community gets shittier and shittier through time. If nobody reports the culprits, new players take exemple over them, and that’s how you get a community full of salty idiots over a year or two. Reacting to insults is bad, but being passive is a false good idea.

Not reacting to the insult is a no brainer. But no matter what happens, if a player shows a terrible behaviour, you must report him. Though skin or not, there’s no place among the community for players with such a terrible mindset. Those should be reported accordingly, and if possible kicked.

This game isn’t exactly designed for kids so swearing and even raging isn’t offensive. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like people who constantly harass or insult others, but it’s part of the game and most of the time, it’s all in good fun. Can’t tell you how many friends are on my friend’s list simply because one of us started rage-typing in chat or cursing/sarcastically insulting the other. This generally leads to melee fights and tea-bags.

Sometimes it’s best to take things lightheartedly rather than react like someone’s killing your family. Now of course some things like extremely racist remarks and constant harassment deserve some punishment, but this game isn’t anywhere near something like CS:GO for this problem (though people will kick you immediately for no reason in CS:GO so they don’t have a problem kicking abusive people).

I like the idea, but I just have a feeling it won’t be executed properly and people will be banned for harmless play or for saying something like “f this team.” It isn’t a big deal to me to see people raging. DB can do that to ya. I’ve played some games where censorship is a big thing and it really takes away from the game.

Thing is, what qualifies as this? What is too extreme or not extreme enough?

In this Politically Correct Culture nowadays, forgive me if I seem hesitant about this sort of thing.

M rating or not, there should be an option to report open harassment for example.

That’s up to you to decide what kind of behaviour deserves to be reported and what doesn’t. SD will have the final word about your report anyway. So what would matter in the end is SD’s view of good and bad behaviour.

Can we Report TDM Players too? so 90% of the fucktards in DB would be banned for some Time. just mute Players, easy as that.

It’s not about players not playing the objective. It’s mostly about those kind of players who harass people or throw a temper tantrum live in the server.

As I said in my reply to Dr_Plantboss, just muting is not enough. If someone is toxic to the point of screaming insults in the game tchat without stopping, reporting him quickly at the end of the match through the in game report function is a strict minimum. Ignoring insults is mostly a good thing, but being passive to them isn’t.

By the way, a message to every users about reporting : if you don’t do it for you, do it for the other people who could end up being matched with those kind of obnoxious people.

If I get a triple kill with my Lazerbeam/frag nade, and an enemy types “fuck you” in the chat, I read it like “well played”.
Too much censoring is worse than no censoring imo - like on the warframe forums I got a warning point and a temp ban for calling another player a “pussy”. Funny thing is, that “pussy” is not even censored in the in-game chat.

On the other hand, racist stuff and mocking others religion is a really bad thing, that should be penalized - with chat suspension at least.

(watsyurdeal) #14

Idk, I haven’t run into anything that I would say fits into that category. Usually I call people out if they’re talking crap to someone else and thats about it.

If they aim at me, its hard for me to give a micro scope of a certain f word.

Maybe not the ideal actions, but at least you are not being passive, which is pretty cool.

Careful about it not backfiring tho.

Warframe forums are taking moderation pretty far because the community is especially… Toxic. Seriously, it’s really bad there. So sorry if you feel like I or another moderator had to mod you for something that you feel in unfair, but we were really just doing our job.

(Yes, I also mod the Warframe forums. Ever heard of D20 ? Well now you did. :stuck_out_tongue: )

Either way, when it comes about reporting, your rules. If you feel like something is worth reporting, do it. If you feel like it’s not, don’t. Just don’t stay passive, don’t let the obnoxious people get the worst out of you.

(Dr_Plantboss) #18

I wasn’t disagreeing with the post, I just think that the post was a bit whiny. If this option was added, I would definitely use it. Some other games a play have a system like this (including World of Tanks, which has an extremely toxic community), and I report them on those.

Oh yeah

I have high hope for VR headsets with force feedback in the future when you will be able to slap the face of toxic manchilds just like IRL.
