Player Point of View Offset

(Donnovan) #1

There is any way to offset the player point of view?

Anyone know how to do that?

I want to play a demo with the point of view offset x units to the right and then play it again with the point of view offset x units to the left.

x = player_eyes_distance/2

Anyone know how?

Thanks!

Here a 3D shot from ETQW:

If you have a 3D TV you can open this image on it and activate the 3D function “side to side images to 3D”. You will see a beautifull 3D screenshot of the Valley bridge in ETQW!

Process of generating it:

You need two screenshots…

1 - Load a map and enter in spectator mode.
2 - Positione your self on the local for the screenshot.
3 - Dont touch the mouse anymore.
4 - Take a screenshot (this is the left eye shot).
5 - Move a bit to the right with strafe key (you can type on the console “PM_SPECTATESPEED 20” to make movement slower and help you to not move too much).
6 - Take another screenshot (this is the right eye shot).
7 - Half the width of each shot and join then in one image, like on the example below.
8 - Its done!

Sadly my Photobucket account does not accept 1920x1080 pixels images.

From third person view you can do it with pm_thirdPersonAngle or pm_thirdPersonOrbit (altho this moves you around)

i bet he wants to play some demo in 3d (with 3d tv and glasses)

Doing a demo this way will take ages. The only way I think it’s slightly feasible is either in thirdperson mode or having two persons doing a run side to side with exactly the same moves. Which will only work in a straight line and gunsights and hud turned off.

You need to play the demo with a view offset.

Anyone saw that image (first post) on a 3D device?

That is not true 3D, you need 2 Eyes camera perspective, the Gun are also in different positions, Carmack knows best.

- PLEASE HELP ME OUT -

Pool:

1 - How far (more or less) you sit away from the TV?

2 - How many " have your TV?

3 - If you dont want to reveal your TV ", instead of answering questions 1 and 2, giveme X, were:
X = answer_in_2 / answer_in_1.

4 - What is your TV aspect ratio (example: 16:9)? (if you dont know, please answer other questions).

Thanks!

Should be possible to make a real poll* Donnovan, you will have to make a new topic for that, just post a link here to the new topic.

I did Toy Consite 3D Screenshot.

Its the custom map Consite looked by a giant with 4 m space beetwen his eyes. Since i used FOV 90 you will need to sit more near your screen TV for maximum carnage/3D_effect.

Just hold your self from try to get the tiny buildings to smash then! Beliveme, there is a solid screen on the way!

ETQW 3D!

Sadly, its perfect to my television (42"). Since, for maximum carnage, the relation beetwen real eyes distance (more or less 7 cm) and the size of your TV screen defines how the image must be generated, it will works perfectly only on a 42" TV.

For bigger TV the relation is different, because screen is bigger but the eyes distance is the same…

But i will do versions for bigger screens… Try not to crash your TV screens trying to get the hog on the terrain.
