Player numbers used in clan wars

ClanBase recommends matches to be fought with 6 against 6 players, when TWL uses 8 vs. 8 players (at least afaik). When ET came out first I thought that 8 vs. 8 would be the right choice, because the maps were larger than in vanilla RtCW. Now I’ve come up that 6 vs. 6 suits the game better: the fights are fought using only small areas and not the whole map, attacking is easier (and still quite hard in some maps) and less artillery-spam. What do you think?

8v8 seems just fine.

In the matches I’ve played in (at least TWL) we use 8 people and it seems pretty fair to me.

I think a lot of the maps in ET require at least 8 people to have any chance, because they’re so big and have so much stuff to do in each.

8v8 is good, 7v7 is average, but anything less just isn’t worth playing on these maps.

I’ve played organized matches with all 3 numbers and I’ve found that playing with 8’s has been the most fun by far. It’s the perfect amount and gives many possible combinations of classes and strats to work with. Also, it encourages clans to use more teamwork over just plain outshooting them.

The one time we did play 6’s was on Radar (one of the smaller maps) and it just didn’t impress me at all. Of course, I was always a fan of 7v7 Wolf so I guess I’m kind of biased. At least for the time being I think it should be set at 8 (or more) until ET dies down in popularity in the future.

I’ve played all maps with 6v6 without any problems, I’ve also done that with 8v8 (=lots of draws and spam). Most of the ET-maps are biased towards Axis which combined with bigger teams makes the Allies very hard to play. When SW is used the matches it will take forever to finish. Maybe if there will be some kind of a client-side patch that would do some changes to the maps I could think of using 8 vs. 8 but for now it’s just not the way I think this game should be played.

why is this a poll? haha

Definately 6-v-6.

More players doesn’t mean more options and more Class selections, it just means more chaos and more spam, and, as Kotkis points out, favours the defending team even more making for less enjoyable games all round.

I also think there are Clan logistics to consider as well. More players are harder to organise, both in game and in terms of arranging matches. Also, the bigger the team size the fewer the teams.

An interesting comparison can be made with the way RTCW evolved. In the US they played 7-v-7 for a long time before going 6-v-6. In Australia they started 8-v-8 then went down to 6-v-6. I can’t see E.T. not going the same way for Tournies and Leagues that don’t start off with 6-v-6.

6vs6
otherwise it will just be mortars and heavy mg that going to be added

= more camping

= less fun

& longer games

Id rather see clan match stats that show that 8v8 games always end in draws or assault side losing. These maps are certainly big enough to accomodate bigger teams, but thats theory, what the typical outcomes are shld be what determines the ideal number.

There is a long thread on this topic in forumplanets ET forum, where alot of league players stated that 8v8 matches always favor defence by way of the matches outcome. Perhaps its too early in this games life to say that it is an immutable truth, and that new strats and players will come along and shatter this myth - or not. Is the jury still out on this one ?

I didnt vote b/c I have yet to play an 8v8 match - but Im very interested to know how this is panning out.

Well I hope ET stays 8v8 (as I think it should be) as long as possible. Like I said, while the game’s popular I think it’s great to have a decent amount of numbers. Some of the maps are just too big for 6v6.

I think it’s great to see more players because it gives you a chance to see a few mortars or mobile mg42’s running around on a map; not just field ops and meds.

While it does suck at times going up against 2-3 panzers sometimes, but it’s definitely not impossible to overcome.

I hope TWL stays as is because I really think the numbers work. I’m kind of dreading if CAL makes a league they will most assuredly drop the numbers to cater to the “serious clans”.

For right now, I’m just going to enjoy playing the game with the numbers that are a perfect fit for the maps.
