Player callable missions?

(Cankor) #1

In ETQW there were player callable missions, including: spotting a spawnhost (vsay “I need a medic” comes up); spotting an AIT so mr. rocket soldier coudl take it out and let you call down arty, etc.

I wonder if there will be player callable missions in Brink? If they do, and assuming their is smoke and only a certain class can deploy it, hopefully they have a player callable mission for smoke so you can ask for it where you think it’s needed.

(Nikto) #2

can you explain that? i haven’t played it myself, and don’t understand what your talking about.

(LyndonL) #3

Explained really badly… but I think he means missions where you need to call in assistance like airstrikes, mortar etc?

Player has to aim at the target and then radio in the command.

Basically new missions are generated for relevant classes when a player spots something and by spotting I mean they have to aim at something and press a button or two.

(Nikto) #5

ah, ok, thanks.
i don’t think it fits in brink, apart from having the chance it would destroy vital equipment wich keeps the Ark afloat, it isn’t a case where you can see the white of the enemy’s eyes.

  • i wouldn’t know why there’s a military airplane with bombs, or mortars on the Ark

(.Chris.) #6

That was just an example, there isn’t arty or mortar in Brink so it was probably a bad example to give.

Thinking about it though most things will be covered by the automatic system I think

(SockDog) #7

Are spotting operatives automatic to the rest of the team? There were also situations where you would spot the location of the radar etc to the rest of your team, who could then select the mission to destroy it.

(Achtung) #8

No Idea, but I loved the “I need a medic” buttons ect in original ET. Then u never need voice chat.

(Wraith) #9

Spotting a disguised operative is an operative only ability. Not sure if it relays the info to the rest of the team like interrogation.

(Cankor) #10

It sounds like when you die, you automatically generate a mission for someone to revive you, so the “I need a medic” is now generated automatically as a mission instead of the vsay.

The smoke thing was the best example I could come up with which would fit in with Brink. Spotting turrets may be another, as well as the possibility for Operatives to spot enemy operatives for the rest of the team. But probably a difference between spotting (ETQW had skulls, BC2 has orange triangles or something like that, I forget) and actually generating a mission that someone would get XP for performing.

(KnollDark) #11

if what i hear from you is correct yes your status does effect everyone else so if your down medics will get a mission to revive you and as a general objective if someone is going after an objective like planting a bomb a new mission will come up like “escort so-and-so” so when you are near that person you will gain bonus exp for kills (or shots when it comes to this game) plus the added benefit of both of you buffing each other which makes it easier and more fun

its easier[and more reliable in terms of both of stability and rich gameplay]to make its gameplay-generated[by server logic], than rely on user/manually-generated misions, seriously.
this sacrifices immersion a bit, but can be polished with some L&F ambient stuff[such as rich voiceovers and other “bells and whistles”, designed to simulated/emulate/enrich huge/interactive team/society/activity.

I’m sure it will be polished up, you get to choose your voice and tone in the game, and best of all your characters are used in the game, in a container city look i saw that a character can be one of the characters that are talking and setting the stage, I’m not sure if this stays the same in the cut scenes but I’m sure we’ll be starring in those also

(SebaSOFT) #14

It’s weird if you actually can set the ethnicity of your character’s voice, that SD will have to make every cut scene with every tone of voice…

(LyndonL) #15

How’s that any different to Saints Row 2? You choose your voice and it plays out for each cut scene… and there are a lot more cut scenes in SR2 so it’s very achievable for Brink.

When you died in Quake Wars and Enemy Territory there was always an indicator on the mini-map that intimated to your teammates that somebody needed a revive. It wasn’t exactly a ‘mission’ per-say but you were always rewarded with XP for reviving fallen teammates.

I’m pretty sure vsays will still likely be necessary for those who are spacing out or just aren’t paying attention to any kind of visual indicator. Having visuals and sounds would help maximize the likelihood of someone reviving a teammate, I think.

I know that I, for one, am a vsay guy. The only obvious problem are clowns spamming vsays but, I’d rather have the ability to use them than save any kind of grief from spammers. Gotta take the good with the bad.

(LyndonL) #17

… Just like VOIP

(H0RSE) #18

It’s a bit different spamming the same, pre-recorded, non offensive vsays, compared to what some clowns will say over VOIP…

(LyndonL) #19

It’s just as annoying IMO.

(H0RSE) #20

Not to mention, most servers have features/settings, to stop vsay spamming - not so much for VOIP.
