So i am new to this game ( about 30 hours) and I am really enjoying it. Such a mp shooter needs a strong player base to have useful matchmaking . The player base falls from around 10 k to 6 k. The other problem is, that so many big games are coming in the next few months. Perhaps not rly a game like this, but games like Batlefront, fallout, overwatch and many more will also make the player base from dirty bomb not bigger. I don’t see a good concept right now. A new game mode to split up the player this times might not be the best decision. Also the game lacks a couple of things, maps, mercs and there is no motivating player stats site. I rly like this game, but I am scared that it can be dead in a few couple of months.
What u guys think?
Player base falling down-triple AAA is coming
The only one of those 3 that may be a slight issue is Overwatch, which, wont be coming out for a while. Have they even started alpha testing? IMO SD has all that time to accumulate a larger player base and iron out some kinks. Aside from that, Overwatch and Dirty Bomb are two very diffrent games, and I see no reason why one cant enjoy both. I know I’ll be putting money into both of them if I can run Overwatch…
People argue that TDM wouldn’t work because some mercs are clearly stronger than others, in it, BUT they somehow fail to see that it’s the exact same situation with the execution game mode.
I really don’t like that the focus is on execution, because if I wanted to play S&D, I’d play counter strike, which has been balanced for that game mode since the beginning.
I’ll be playing OW asap, but I hope that DB gets improved, so that people have a reason to keep coming back to it.
Edit.
I hope that they focus on what is great about the core game, and work to improve that, before trying to reinvent the game.
Execution is garbage too though, I think you’ll find most people that don’t like the idea of TDM also dislike the idea of Execution mode. So no they don’t fail to see.
Execution is just TDM in rounds with no respawn. In all the games I played of it, I saw less than 5 plants.
That’s just because people are too stupid to plant. Plenty of times people on offense just camp and are too stupid to realize there is a timer to plant.

been several posts about this , linking phantom to the player drop or whatever reasosn but no one bothered to look at games in general or have much of a memory it seems. a lot of stuff happens june-august. schools and universities have holidays and most of the northern hemisphere goes on vacation.
Cs:go has shed 170k thousand players if you look at peaks. Ark , one of the best selling games has a slight dip , and it was in a massive growth cycle. basically its summer this always happens wait for sept or better october to see the real numbers.
overwatch really is the big threat i think , and it just popped up on my battelnet client so i guess the beta is a few weeks off.

Not only overwatch. I saw like 3-4 products with that type as rivals(not Enemies, because games do unite gamers(and not divide them into “tribes”)
Another thing is that the whole 10k + peak was not a stable thing to begin with.
It came through advertising/reviews.
Was pretty clear from the onset that it wouldn’t stay that high, people try the game and some will drop off.
As for different gamemodes well you can never balance for different gamemodes in an asymetric game. Perfect balance would only be possible if we didn’t have the unique mercs. Dirty Bomb, is not the only game with that problem. Look at LoL they have to go to great length (disabling items, making new ones) to even remotely balance the non primary modes, like the 3 on 3 map, and the dominion? mode.
Execution is mostly TDM. Because in a mode where everyone has only one life, killing becomes a easy way to win. Most CS rounds especially on lower tiers play out the same in my experience.
One could promote planting, by changing the pointing system. Winning the round by killing all defenders gives half a point. Winning the round while having a plant active, gives a full point. This would give a nice incentive to planting. Likewise it would promote defending the bomb sites more, instead of aggressively roaming the map on defense.
Battlefront at least on PC will bleed it’s population even quicker, mark my works. It’s another train wreck accelerating on its way to the crash site. From all the titles you have mentioned the only real competitor is Overwatch. DB is a bit more competitive and with higher skill level so I suspect it might survive for a while.
And yet AAA games seem to be the most shitty in terms of multiplayer
Battlefront from what I’ve heard was a disaster, CoD is…well, CoD, Battlefield 4 launched like RPG, supposedly devastating but missed the fucking mark. And of course games like Destiny and Halo.
I’m sorry but the whole AAA industry is not that great, the only reason they got a lot of sales is because they have better marketing and are typically on console. Dirty Bomb is not AAA, and is only on PC, it’s honestly more like indie dev than anything else, or somewhere in the middle.
And yet, Dirty Bomb in terms of a hardcore shooter seems to hit all the right marks, so…yea.

What is also funny is that a lot of people in CS, when they play TDM, use inferior weapons for many different reasons. Some do it for fun, some for challenge, some because they want to learn that weapon for specific situations etc. TDM works just fine with the class based system in DB as far as I am concerned. I’d most likely play it a good amount as it’s always been great for aim practice as there is little downtime and you can focus on things you don’t normally get to focus on when you have to worry about proper tactics and objectives.
There hasn’t been any new original IPs in terms of multiplayer shooters by non-indie devs in years but Overwatch and Battleborn (yes, Battleborn, not the Battlefield with a Star Wars skin) are going to change that.
we had tdm early on but was removed to bring s&d in. even had the maps for them which were just parts of the obj_ maps cut in half
Until game will be nearing release data, all this is just “sky is falling” -type of talk.
Its 2 early to make any estimates of any kind.
So far my 2 main fears is forced MM and DM mode. That would be pretty much it for me. Ive seen where that road leads and it aint pretty.
The only reason some of the AAA games like COD sell is because of better marketing strategy’s, advertising, and availability to consoles. Sadly, Dirty Bomb does not have most of these things. As much as I would love to see Dirty bomb be around $10 and have all the mercs be free, it just can’t. I really like this game and it would be a shame if it’s playerbase dies. However, Dirty Bomb could possibly work well on consoles.

you would get absurd situations:
- attackers try to leave one defender alive while they go and plant
- last defender /kills before plant is down
I hoped that i will see Paladins on that comment(big maps, land transport,CARDS,big similarities to Tribes,Blizzard etc.)
If they don’t fix the bugs and hacking issues, but instead continue to push out new mercs, then this game will deserve to die.
I know none of us want that, but frankly, many people are running out of patience. It is only a matter of time before the playerbase melts away, and a new game will be a typical catalyst for that. If the Overwatch beta beings in the next few months (which is predicted), and we are all still here complaining about bugs and cheaters, everyone will give up on DB and move onto the next big game in the hope that it wont be as half-arsed as this one is.
Splash Damage are on borrowed time, if they don’t sort the issues this game has, they risk Dirty Bomb dying, and on the back of Brink’s poor showing, their reputation too.
