Pirates_Final & Source map release

(FireFly) #1

After months of testing and tweaking the previous betas I’m happy to release the final version of the Pirates map.
After 9 years of creating maps for pub play only, this is my first map created for the comp scene:
This was my first experience with the w:et competition scene and unfortunally it was a very unpleasant experience.

You can download the final map right here: http://www.wolfplayer.nl/temp/pirates.zip

Like all the maps I released in the past, I will also release the source map…
You’re free to do whatever you want to do with the source map and use parts of it for your own non-commercial projects…

You can Download the source files for the piratesmap here: http://www.wolfplayer.nl/files/source/sourcemaps.html

Many thanks to the people testing the previous betas and serveradmin hosting them: without them the final pirates map would be non-existant…

Nice map! Got stable FPS on the map.

I have added it on my both silent mod servers!

Thank you!

Thank you very much for sharing the source file with the community.

There has been some negative experience with the W:ET competition scene and mapping making some years ago.
You might a the thread here in the forums.

Very nice map, I envy all those who make such great maps, but I’m sure one day I might make maps like this aswell!

Thanks!

(lamps) #10

Good map, thanks for also releasing the source.

(DeatH) #11

V1_Rocket link for the source is actually Vesuvius, as is TramFight.

(Loffy) #12

Sweet-looking!

(ailmanki) #13

Warm fuzzy feeling this map gives!

(shagileo) #14

I recorded my very last mapping session for the Pirates map today: The original video was 30 minutes, but I figured watching this might be as excited as being a straight guy watching a video of another guy playing with his dick for 30 minutes. So instead I made a timelapse of the video,

You won the internet price

Awesome video as well, by the way
However I have to ask -and this may sound stupid- but how do you move those wooden planks on that dock like that (make those angles without the rotate function) ?

(stealth6) #15

press E - drag edges?

(eiM) #16

impressive screenshots you have there, I wonder why I have seen so few maps of those in action. Havent you released some of them?

@eim

Tramfight was tested a bit in competition back in the day. Was an ‘almost’ map cant remember exactly why it wasn’t taken up now.

Vesuvius, I remember playing this a bit on the old M8D custom server (those were the days), was a fairly OK map but not without it’s faults, stunning workmanship though.

V1 rocket was played quite a bit back in the day on publics also but I can’t remember how it was like now.

Anyway congrats Firefly on another map.

Yes, I remember that ifurita had a hard time getting any feedback for a comp map he created. I believe not long after this he left the mapping scene.

Whoops…Thanks for mentioning- Fixed now

I’m using gtkradiant 1.4 - so I’m not sure if this still works in radiant1.5 - But here is how it works: Select your brush, hold Ctrl+ clickleft mouse button and move your mouse pointer around outside of the brush…

Chris already mentioned some of the maps that were released:

V1rocket was my first map released in 2004, Originally this was an unreleased rtcw mp map that I created in 2003, but after the w:et sdk got released I converted it to ET. I never managed to release a final version and It got stuck after the beta2 release.

After the v1rocket release I worked on some parts of the Dubrovnik map - made by Ifurita - that was also released in 2004: I created the church area in this map and helped out with converting some of the models made by detoeni.

Tramfight was my second map and the beta2 version was released in 2005. Again this map never came to the final stage. But can still be often found on several servers.

Vesuvius - originally named “Etna” - was created with fellow mapper MrFin and released in 2007. This map never got really popular on the servers. Mrfin also released the vesuvius_rev map wich was basically a smaller, more compact, version of vesuvius. I had no input in that map.

Castle Eltz was released in 2010. Again this map was unpopular mainly because of the many bugs and gameplay issues. Unfortunally I wasn’t able to fix these because of copyright violations.

Still working on V1 Rocket waypoints, this map turn often on our rotation  Thanks to have bring to me the existence of its source, so the snow textures can be used with credits in text file? I liked the snowy concrete, same as ET default, but ET has only temperate/sandy versions of it, if you see what texture I mean >.>

Works like a charm, thanks !

@ stealth: E works as well, but FireFly’s option looked more effective for that particular case and it was something I haven’t seen yet, so
(but also thanks to you)
