Ping problems?

(ImSploosh) #1

Anyone else having strange ping problems making the game unplayable since the server update/hotfix?

My connecting to the U.S. East servers has always been between 30-60, but now when I enter a game, it will start out at 30-60 and immediately start going up 4 or so at a time, eventually reaching around 160-180, which I consider unplayable. It really impacts my gameplay. :frowning:

My ping will then become somewhat erratic and go from 160-180 down to about 100, then back up to 120, and then around 140, stop for a few moments, and become pretty much unpredictable.

I can’t even play right now so any help would be appreciated. The only thing that I’ve downloaded recently was “CyberGhost,” a free VPN. However, I deleted it almost immediately after downloading it. I did play a few games after that though, and they were fine. It wasn’t until this most recent update that the problems arose.

EDIT: Just did a ping test and found out it’s probably something on my end. Anyone have any ideas/solutions? This was with no applications running. AT&T is an awful internet company, and Comcast has the best internet here in Florida, but they’re also scammers so it’s a tough call. We’ve had both.

my ping has been around 200 for a month.

same, ill join a 20 ping server and ill end up with a 150+ sometimes
or my ping is fine and i get jitter lag going around someone with a fked up ping

sounds like a personal problem… jk. How does one play with that ping!? I’ve heard it’s an advantage, but I feel at such a disadvantage with mine over 150.

I’ve been joining 30 ping servers and it just goes up and stays up, nothing I can do. I was previously getting that weird jitter lag as well, and I’m sure tons of others were too.

I tested it again and my ping has been fine I think. I closed google chrome… I’ve always been able to play with google chrome, or any other browser/application open for that matter. Never had a problem before, especially with just a browser open. It’s just weird. lol

EDIT: It’s still doing the same thing. I thought exiting Chrome worked, but nope. Pretty sure it’s something on their end, they changed something or idk. But if no one else is having this problem, then I guess it’s on my end somehow. Any help would be nice!

At first i thought it was just my bad rig so i lowered everything to minimal and still the same jitter. i have chrome open with music all the time and never had an issue, not until the wtd stuff started

I’m here on the east coast with fios and I also notice my ping crawling up in increments of 4 and then going back down. Even on east coast servers. I don’t really know what’s causing it or how to properly troubleshoot/monitor this.

(Amerika) #8

I’ve played on tons of different servers all night. No issues outside of getting booted due to NGS crashing a few times :frowning:

(ImSploosh) #9

Sadly I believe it’s something on my end. :frowning: The problem is that I have no idea how to troubleshoot or solve this. My download speed/browsing speed are all fine right now so it’s not necessarily the connecting? Idk.

I’m just kinda lost right now. I hate not being able to play Dirty Bomb, or any online game for that matter. (I haven’t tried any others out just yet because I don’t really have any downloaded right now. I’ll probably post on one of those techie sites and hope for the best.

I’ve changed my net from 3mb [copper], where I had around 240+ ping in US East and 190+ in SA, to fiber. Now I have around 160-180 in US East and less more in SA, depending servers may get till 40-50 ping.

This is my net now:

I get around 50-70 ping in a US West server which is odd.

I am just sad. Where I live, I am using internet with a large group of people for the apartment. There is no fiber or any internet service able to give us anything more than 5 mb/s. The group internet I have 50mb/s but shared among a lot of people. Ping is 20 and 0 jitter yet there is not a single game of DB I’ve played without severe rubber banding. I am hopeless now.

50 mb/s download, 20ms ping, 0 jitter, 60 fps in game and forever rubber banding no matter what RIP. I envy you guys. I can never enjoy a single game without rubber banding since early December.

Actually, 200 feel pretty much normal, but when it reaches over 216, then i got delay and laggy stuffs. Alot of of people are having this issue also, on the same server, some will get really low ping while the rest get really high ping, no somethings in between or whatsoever, you are either got very low ping or very high ping. But the weird thing is, sometime i got in a server and got 200 ping, i disconnected from that and joined again, and my ping returned to normal.

I’d wager that your bandwidth is spiking to limit pretty often with it being shared amongst that many people. An easy way to test this is to bring up a command prompt (start, run and type cmd and hit enter). Then type the below:

ping google.com -t

Let it go for 20-30 minutes while you play DB. Then come back to it and hit ctrl + c to stop it. You’ll get something like the below. Look at your minimum, your maximum and your “Lost = X”. You can also scroll through the pings as well. If you see a lot of variation between your minimum and your maximum then you either have an issue with your ISP or your local connection due to people spiking the bandwidth. If it’s the latter issue there are certain routers that can prevent this from happening.

My bad. I just found a virus that is screwing me for the past month. I eradicated it and now I can enjoy DB with 0 lag again. This is heaven. I can finally play XDDDDDDD

How about your speed of connection? Are you playing on servers far away from your physical location? Try bringing up server browser and see what is the lowest ping you can get and see if they are the same for the servers in that region. How is your internet with regards to watching movies etc?
