I looked for a server company that had control panels specifically, I found one by the name of Phurix. Their fees seemed reasonable enough, and they fulfilled my criteria of being UK based and having the control panel. So I sent them £90 (the price they stated, which somehow turned out to be £93.60) for the first quarters rental.
Here is our communications on their support section with regard to their server:

Hello, I just got a server from you, I hope you know which one from my email
address, the email I received didn’t give me a reference number to state.A couple of questions for you:
- Will the teamspeak details be sent seperately? I was under the
impression that a 16 slot teamspeak came with the server. If I have got
this wrong, let me know![]()
- I see I somehow buggered up the amount of money to send you, I will send
a new postal order for the amount stated![]()
- The server is running an old version of punkbuster and it kicked me
straight away due to init failure. How do I go about updating the servers
punkbuster?- ftp access etc is very confusing to me, do you have a control panel I can
use? If not, a link to a laymens type tutorial for what to do with it would
be great.Thanks for your time,
Tony Gerrard

Hi Tony,Thanks for contact us.
I’ve answered your questions below.
You can activate your “free” teamspeak server from MyAccount, there is an option under the gaming tool kit to administrate and activate your teamspeak server.
You can login to myaccount here: http://myaccount.phurix.co.uk
What is your username? i’ll update punk buster for you.
I’m not quite sure exactly what you ment with regards to question 2, could you explain?
I’ll try and dig up a guide to using FTP to admin your server, in most case though you just need to “ftp” into the server, download the “server.cfg” and restart it, either via MyAccount or by using the rcon proctol.
Please let us know if you have any other problems or questions.

Hello James, thank you for the quick reply. My username is [censored], ID no: [censored]
The server is: red.phurix.com 213.228.232.155 29001I’m not sure what I asked in question 2, I think it might have been about a
control panel, I seem unable to find it. Previously, with other server
rental companies, they have provided an easy to use panel that allows you to
do stuff like create a campaign file, update punkbuster, restart server,
edit the configs and all that kind of thing. With regard to the teamspeak server, it wont activate it, it (the voice
server section of my account) just keeps telling me ‘You have no active
servers so we cannot continue’.I would like ET Pro 3.2.6 installed on there also, with a 6 map campaign of
the 6 stock maps (running etpromapscripts) in any order if possible, just to
get the server usable by our members while we figure the rest out. Would be
great if you could do this. Also, I believe in order to have killing sprees, monsterkills etc, we would
need shell access. Obviously, me not knowing that much about this sort of
stuff yet, I dont want shell access lol, but would like to know if etadmin
mod with these features (and the rest) could be installed your end?I wont be back from work until after 630pm GMT, I will respond to any
further questions you may have for me then.Thank you,
Tony

Hi Tony,Sorry for the delay.
I’ve updated punkbuster for you so that should be working fine now.
I’ve corrected a bug in our control panel, so you can now re-visit the teamspeak activation page and activate your teamspeak client (sorry about that)
We dont normally install mods for our clients, however If you can provide me with a link to the mod you want installed i’ll do this later tonight for you.
Thursday, August 10 2006 6:33pm
Hi James,The etadmin mod link (thanks):
http://et.d1p.de/etadmin_mod/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
The teamspeak still aint working, it just keeps saying I have no active teamspeak servers. I am going to ‘teamspeak administration’ in the ‘gaming toolkit’ menu, is that correct?
James Henry (Thursday, August 10 2006 8:02pm)
Hi Tony,You might need to refresh your cache, when visiting the site: http://myaccount.phurix.co.uk/teamspeakadmin.php
Press CTRL+F5 if you do not see a notification out lined in red could you please take a screen shot, you can then upload it to: http://www.yoimg.com - I tested this several times today and it was working perfectly.
Please let us know how you get on.
Many thanks.
Friday, August 11 2006 2:58am
ok mate, will have a look when I get back from work, thanks.
Friday, August 11 2006 2:50pm
Nope, still nothing - the screenshot:
James Henry (Friday, August 11 2006 8:17pm)
Hi Tony,Thanks for that.
I see the problem. Basically your balance was in a negative state, i’ve credited your account with the 3.60, and you should now be able to activate your teamspeak server.
Let us know how you get on and then i’ll install your mods.
Also, Have you checked punk buster, is everything ok with that now?
All the best.

Actually, all anyone gets when they join the server is the ‘connection
interrupted’ right from the off.
Totally unusable. I have tried other servers and they have been fine. Same
for other players.I tried to restart the server (in case this helped) and got the following
error:'Restart Error:
Unable to process request. There has been database error (#gsi3). if this continues please let us
know.’We’ll get there in the end
(btw I sent the £3.60 already, you should have it tomorrow, or Monday at the
latest)Tony

Update on the server restart:I managed to restart it by calling a vote ingame. The disconnection problem now seems to have gone
Saturday, August 12 2006 11:42am
How do I edit the server command line?It isn’t executing the server.cfg and it isn’t running etpro which has now been installed.
James Henry (Monday, August 14 2006 2:24pm)
Tony,Sorry for the delay over the weekend.
The server can be restarted via MyAccount (http://myaccount.phurix.co.uk) and it can also be restarted using “Rcon quit”
By default, it should exec the server.cfg when the game starts. Could you let me know what you would like added to the command line as we will only add this part on request.
Many thanks.
Tuesday, August 15 2006 4:04pm
Still getting this:'Restart Error:
Unable to process request. There has been database error (#gsi3). if this continues please let us
know.’For the command line, I would like it to exec server.cfg and to run et pro 3.2.6.
Also, to avoid the possibility of hackers taking over the server, it would be a good idea for you to install the 2.6b server patch
Tony
James Henry (Wednesday, August 16 2006 9:19pm)
The following command line has been set:./etded +set sv_pure 1 +set fs_game etpro +set net_port 29001 +set
sv_maxclients 20 +exec server.cfg +set sv_punkbuster 1This should start up ETPRO next time you restart your server. As well as execute your server.cfg, as requested.
I have also resloved the bug with the game server reboot page, although this is only a temporary fix.
Friday, August 18 2006 2:37am
Unable to process request. There has been database error (#gsi3). if this continues please let us know.
Game server has been offline for several days now. Do you have a problem your end with it?
James Henry (Friday, August 18 2006 10:27am)
I have restarted your server now for you, it should return with all your settings you have configured within the next 5 minutes.I have also reconfigured your “gaming toolkit” which should now reslove the problem you have when restarting your server.
Please let us know if you have any other problems or questions.
Many thanks.

The server is running, however it is running etmain, not ET Pro…
James Henry (Monday, August 21 2006 8:04pm)
Hi there,Sorry for the delay.
I have got your server back online runninge ETPRO as requested.
If its “ok” can we close this ticket as its getting a bit long and will be confusing for other members of staff to read through. So, please raise another ticket if you have any other problems or questions.
Many thanks.
Tuesday, August 22 2006 2:45pm
Hi, new ticket started as per instructions in the final message of my old ticket.Server is still not working.

James Wade (Tuesday, August 22 2006 4:53pm)
Have you tried getting the latest version of your game?
Tuesday, August 22 2006 4:58pm
I have the latest (2.6) version, which works fine on every other server on the planet.Just in case something got somehow corrupted I have just tested with 3 randomly chosen servers and I got on them fine.
Tried again with this one and got the same error within the same session.
Must be a typo or something your end James…

Oh bugger, I refreshed the page and it added my comment again, sorry. As an update, I got someone else to test the server and they get the same error. Again, they have no problems elsewhere
Wednesday, August 23 2006 2:43pm
After a little research, it appears you have forgotten to implement the 2.6b patch.ET Pro 3.2.6 only goes with the 2.6b patch.
That is the problem
James Henry (Friday, August 25 2006 2:53pm)
I’m really sorry about the delay here. I have now patched your server and it is currently restarting. Please let us know if you have any other problems or questions.
Friday, August 25 2006 6:04pm
Still no patch running on the server
James Henry (Friday, August 25 2006 6:20pm)
Hi there,I’ve installed the patch again, and restarted your server it is currently running,
ET 2.60b linux-i386 May 8 2006
If this is not the version you require could you please provide us with the exact version number and if possible a URL.
Many thanks, sorry for the delay.

http://games.softpedia.com/get/Patch/Wolfenstein-Enemy-Territory-Patch.shtmlIf this doesn’t work, I think we are gonna have to go to ET Pro 3.2.5…
Tuesday, August 29 2006 4:18pm
If it helps I asked someone ‘in the know’ and he provided the following response:“the 3.2.6b1 etpro is in response to 2.60b update, before clients couldn’t run 2.60b on etpro servers, since 3.2.6b1 they can, I would stick to etpro 3.2.5 with 2.60b update on server and 2.60 for clients, that way server is covered and any one can play”
So, it would appear that we need:
Et Pro 3.2.5; and
The 2.6b patchAnd things should be up and running
Apologies for being such a pain in the backside.Tony

Hello?Nothing heard from you since last Friday…
James Henry (Thursday, August 31 2006 10:27am)
Tony,I’m pretty confused to whats going on here.
Firstly, your server is already running the following version “ET 2.60b linux-i386 May 8 2006”
Secondly, the link you’ve provided does not appear to be linux server side patch.
What errors are you receiving when you connect?
As the sever is running “ET 2.60b linux-i386 May 8 2006” are you sure this isnt a problem with your mods? have you tried to start over “fresh”.
Saturday, September 2 2006 6:29am
Hi James,
Yes, it is still saying the ‘incorrect ET.exe version’ error.
From what the guy I asked said, to fix it, we need to uninstall ET-Pro 3.2.6 and install ET-Pro 3.2.5 and we should be good to go.
Tony

Ok, this has been going for a month now (from August 8th to present day September 6th) and we still have no playable server. It is now obvious you have either no intention of resolving these issues, or lack the required knowledge.I will have a full refund of £93.60 within 7 days sent to my home address.
As you will be aware, British law states that any service or product provided must be of merchantable quality. In this case a server provided to the required specifications set out in my first letter. Failure to provide this is a breach of contract and a full refund is required by law. This supercedes any and all ‘Terms and Conditions’ relating to this transaction.
Yours faithfully,
Tony Gerrard
