Phantom became the most useless shit after the fine tuning update. He used to be OP and now he sucks cock. most of what they did is fine, but they made him way too easy to see. I recently purchased phantom and I get killed every time I am within 50 feet (In game it looks like 50 feet) of an enemy while I am standing still, cloaked and lined up to them sideways. I am getting sniped by pistols, the cloak doesn’t do any fucking crap at all. I stand still and get fucking shot dead. All the cloak does is let me take an extra fucking shot or 2. Phantom used to have almost complete transparency and now in this update he has 95% opacity. He should only be 15% visible otherwise he is completely useless and stupid and overall just FUCKED. He was a complete waste and anyone reading this DON’T GET PHANTOM DO NOT GET HIM UNLESS THEY PUT SOME FUCKING SENSE IN THOSE DEVELOPER BRAINS AND MAKE HIM WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY MORE TRANSPARENT, HE SHOULD HAVE NO MORE THAN 15% OPACITY AND COOL DOWN OF HIS CLOAK SHOULD BE 8 SECONDS
Phantom was nerfed to much
1st, lol^
2nd, I personally think Phantom was tweaked just fine, though probably his cloak visibility should be slightly more invisible, but anyways, it’s the melee slow turn that threw everyone off. I don’t think that was ever suggested in the forums. It harmed every single merc when using knives. If that was rid of, I’m sure he would be fine.
were u aware of the other 434534321 threads already made on this topic? Was it not possible to pick one of those to express your obvious unique and thought out opinion in?

I do agree that most of the tweaks were fine, but you also agree that they made hime way too visible
The problem was nerfing a merc before his counter(s) were released and not listening to people who actively play or played him a ton.
Competitively he was fine, not OP. He was only OP at killing newbies and unaware campers.

Phantom shouldn’t even exist.
I don’t know who decided that invisibility needed to be a thing in FPS games, but they were wrong.
FPS games should be about your skill in shooting someone in the face, better than they can shoot you in the face, simple as that.
That being said, I would like to see more of a variety of melee weapons for up close and personal encounters, as well as more variety in sidearms).

Phantom is for people who like to play things more sneaky, like the tf2 spy he is used to get sneaky kills. People can counter him by looking closely but the way they nerfed him he practically doesn’t even have a cloak
Phantom is way too nerfed. I paid $10 for a character who was really worth playing, now it’s nearly impossible to get kills and its just so easy to kill a Phantom these days. I can see him from across the map. IT’S A CLOAK! IT’S SUPPOSED TO MAKE YOU INVISIBLE! Not slightly less visible and easy to kill. I want my money back or I want him to have a better cloak and better Katana. It’s depressing. I want my money back.
phantom is just a slow target now. no reason at all to use the sword. cloak is even more useless versus good players, and i keep dying to snipers who spin around and shoot me in the head.
and when it comes to using a primary, there are so many better options, like fragger. for example.

well you bought a merc in a game under development think twice next time buy things when the game comes out so that they would be more ‘’ balanced’’ and dont even whine about your money as this is a BETA and everything could be changed during this BETA

it’s not like this is the first FPS (or in general, shooter) that has had invsibility in it…using that as a basis of why he shouldn’t exist is rather stupid. It doesn’t harm anything other than egos that they can’t counter it.
Also, everything has a right to exist. This entire thing is a work of art in the end and if the artist (devs) want to add a character with invisbility then you have no right to judge that it shouldn’t exist. >_> just saying.

nothing has the right to exist unless hit has the strength to prevent itself from not existing. This is usually where empathy from the human element comes in where we recognize the weak and try to give them the strength to exist through rehab or whatever else, but I digress.
there are two modes of play in this game. Competitive and Non Competitive. One with stats and one without. One that exists for winning and one that exists for awarding credits. The rulesets for both modes of play should never be identical because competitive and non competitive players cannot peacefully coexist due to their definition of fun being polarizingly different. If two separate environments cannot be supplied, if two player groups cannot be supported, the only one that genuinely matters is the group that will throw more cash around… But, if you were to cater to both groups, there would have to be a mechanic that defined a character’s and a weapon’s capabilities based on the mode they are playing, ideally without drastic changes to the overall design of the merc but with enough of a difference to appeal both audiences while keeping them happily separate.
This way, you have the added bonus of being able to tell all the pseudocompetitive tryhards who think that pub games are some competitive game mode and whine about balance and “dumb pubbies” and whatever else, that they are more than welcome to play the competitive game mode. Although then again, these very same people are the ones who are the most likely to spend the entirety of their welfare check on feeling successful and are most honestly the ideal target audience.

I think the katana just needs more practice but definitely cloak needs to be more invisible

This game is not based on counter-play. The devs, multiple times, have mentioned they do not want RPS gameplay. Sure, there will be bad matchups but not outright intentional counters. Games like TF2 work because they only have a few classes and you’re supposed to have all of them on the field at the same time. That isn’t true for DB.
And Phantom isn’t a melee only merc despite what many people seem to think. He is a flanking gun merc who can melee better than other mercs. Not a melee only merc. If he was melee only he would have just his Katana and MAYBE a pistol. But instead he actually has access to some of the best guns in the game.

Actually that bit of TF2 is not true either, the way certain classes are designed you can’t have them in game at all times and be useful.
Spy for example you can’t play him 24/7 and still be effective, he relies on tricking the enemy and exploting their mistakes, and after some time they catch up and figure out how to deal with you.
I honestly can see the mercs in this game being a lot more versatile, you’ll always need a medic, you’ll always need a support guy to supply ammo and take down the EV, and of course you’ll always need an engineer.
Though with the Recon and Assault classes…I think it’s a different story, and Splash Damage has a way to go with them. For example, when Stoker gets added…will he have the M4? And if so…doesn’t that mean he can replace Fragger? Sure he has 30 less health but he also has incendiary nades which can be used on the EV and on people, and has an ammo station.
Not saying he will, but the meta is always changing, and comp players will always gravitate toward the most versatile and low risky mercs, mechanics, weapons, etc to get an advantage.
