He is neither overpowered nor useless for the objective game, people just don’t know how to work around him especially that the “lets all cluster at the aura station” strategy doesn’t work as well anymore.
I had games where i was really strong with Phantom and those were games where people didn’t think while playing they clustered up, didn’t check any corners etc. i could at Bridge (last part) run up to the MG kill the guy and just hide for someone to come and get killed by me again…for about 6 times in a row. On the other hand there were rounds were people countered very effectivly shut the cloak down with Vasili or just moving with spaces between them covering each other, there i normally ended the game with a bad score.

Phantom is powerful yes but not broken or unbalanced most players just are really frustrated because there before favorite playstyle doesn’t work out so easily anymore.

If they take him out of the game, i will leave the game, nothing good comes out of the community being allowed to decide what is balanced or not.

First i wasn’t suggesting to remove it, i voted for the nerf. Second, the community DOES (or should at least) dictate how the game should go because it’s the community that gives the money to the developers. Without the community a game close because no one plays it. So if the vast majority of the players of a game ask strongly to do x, either the developers do x or a lot of those people tend to leave the game, and that is not good for the game. Also Phantom was removed before so it may happen again.

I don’t think Phantom is overpowered, just very annoying. It’s almost like a Proxy who keeps planting mines behind corners that you don’t expect. Sure, you can counter it, but it’s just so exhausting to watch around you all the time.
I also think stealth doesn’t really fit into the style of this game. It’s just too futuristic compared to the other classes if you ask me (except Kira’s orbital laser, which I also don’t like). Maybe that’s just my personal opinion, but i would rather see a more consistent game world and have Phantom removed.

49 People are not a “vast majority” neither is the people in the forums a “vast majority” not even reddit is a “vast majority”.
Communities will cry to end and nerf stuff that annoys them even if its not overpowered there arguments are in 99,9% of the cases purely subjective without anything as proof besides “i don’t like him”, more often than it was usefull listening to the “community” (the vocal people who think they speak for the masses) damaged or destroyed a game rather than change it for the better.

Let’s be honest, 90% of the people who want Phantom to be removed are new players who are just not skilled enough to deal with him.

The same thing happened when Rhino came out because people just rushed him without any strategy. Now people got used to him and know how to deal with him, so almost no one uses him anymore. The same will happen with Phantom.

And exactly how do you get your feedback as a developer team from the players if not from the communities like the official forum? Are you joking man?

I would really hate to see Phantom leave the game. He is such a cool concept that needs time to mature. I do feel like the amount of skill needed to top the leaderboards with him is too low, seeing as there are videos of people getting 10,000+ score on their first match with him. I think some people want him removed because they feel cheated when a ghost stabs them when they’re planting C4 and there was nothing they could do. The same thing happens when a grenade hits you, but i feel like people have adjusted to and accepted that. Grenades have a certain skill cap needed to be used efficiently, and direct hits need some skill. Most people don’t think becoming invisible and stabbing someone is very skillful or fair is the problem. At the current state phantom is in, i am ABSOLUTELY DREADING seeing him in the free rotation. I love this game but would hate to have to stop playing for a week because there would be nothing but phantoms in every match.

statistics.
Most Developers see the amount of kills, by which weapon and so on and can there spot an imbalance.

Well now you have a lot of Naders everywhere.
People just have trouble to adjust their playstyle…if a Proxy CHARGES a Phantom and when she gets killed yells “OP” sorry but thats just not knowing how to react.
As soon as a guy sees Phantom and starts moving away and shooting you are more or less dead as a Phantom but especially the “weaker” Classes (Proxy, Aura etc.) often close the distance instead of retreating making the job way easier.
That you can get blindsided is more a problem of the individuals lack of situational awareness than it is of the mercenary.

There is no question that he is way too strong. Being able to tank mines etc., lunge 1-shot a third of the mercs from the front, easily win fights even if he’s spotted, and disengage from any fight if his cloak is off cooldown are traits that do not belong on a stealth assassin.

However I don’t see how the addition of a stealth assassin is good for the game even if he is re-balanced. Since any proper stealth kills are completely one-sided it’ll always feel very cheap to be on the receiving end of it. This problem exists in lesser form with Vassili as his headshots are completely one-sided as well, but the defender at least has more control with positioning. And people were already complaining non stop when he was in the free rotation because there is just no fun to be had if a conflict is one-sided. Phantom is even worse as his entire purpose is to engage in one-sided conflicts.

Overall I just don’t see how Phantom adds any fun for the player on the receiving end of his attacks. Because of this I view it as a net loss of fun for the game and an increase in frustration.

That’s the thing, he’s more of a tanky ambushing 1v1 merc, not a low-life fast hit and hide merc.

I think the only reason people are complaining is because they misunderstood what his role is. He’s not a spy, he’s a skyhammer with a twist !
