I would make hits on cloak stronger (you take higher DMG when in cloak) and let them carry over when the cloak is over.

This. The length of time the heavy attack can deal damage is insane. Even if your opponent dodges your swing you can easily compensate and hit them anyway, it’s quite lame really and by far my biggest issue with him.

The reason the Stiletto was ok before the nerf was that it was really damn hard to hit people with tbh.

The Difference is that the Stiletto is just another melee weapon while the Katana is part of Phantoms “thing”.
It would be easy though to change such problems and not make the Katana like the other Melees, just lower his turning speed when hes striking, he still can swing it a bit but not like this anymore.

I honestly don’t care if it’s part of his “thing” if it’s ezpz. Lowering the turning speed won’t help when he attacks too soon then charges into his opponent while it continues to deal damage either.

When you walk (invisible or not still) into the middle of a group of people and they don’t kill you until then and you can carve them up with the Melee weapon…then the problem sure as hell is not a broken melee weapon or a broken cloak but just plain stupid people.

If i cloak and can get into the face of a group of enemies and butcher them with a melee weapon and turning there is at least as much skill involved as is in any airstrike.

I actually can’t have fun in this game anymore. I tried, hard. I used to love this game. I could deal with my team occasionally being bad, I could deal with occasionally getting stomped, because I could at least shoot people and have fun doing it.

And Phantom has completely ruined my ability to do so.

Fuck this shit. I’m outie until this merc gets nerfed so hard you can’t walk 5 steps with him before dying.

Voted for balanaced as after playing as him I can see what people dislike about him and what fighting against him would feel like, my thoughts are as follows.

  1. Increase cooldown on refractive armour. (2 seconds on cooldown for every second used While cloaked/lost when hurt)

  2. Swap his SMGs with Machine Pistols since two of them are seen as the objectively best.

  3. Give all his loadouts the Katana.

I had a game with 4 Phantoms on the opposite side yesterday. When I switched to Vasilli and stared throwing out the sensors all but one switched to a different Merc.

Players will adapt to counter him. Playing as Phantom there were already plenty who were able to spot me and take down my cloak. Leaving their teammates to turn me into a colander.

Dislikes
-phantoms running through smoked off areas,
-phantom stacks on public just empty servers,
-the sword is too easy to hit with,
-the fact that the shield is so strong,

If this class is going to be taken seriously then i recommend some of these simple ‘nerfs’
-give him only a secondary weapon and a sword,
-make his cloak on Q and his shield on E and increase the regeneration time,
-or decrease hit points if the cloak and shield are going to stay so op.

I dont think he’s going to automatically replace fraggers in competetive, so nerfing him will just limit him to be another pub merc… the heavy katana attack cleaving down several people with one swing is just a bug, so that’s one “nerf” coming.

He might seem OP if you try to run around solo, but stay grouped and he’s in trouble. However, if you face a fragger 1v1 you will die, but you will also die and get gibbed if you face him as a group. And now suddenly phantom is the op one?

People are overreacting so bad. A while ago i ran around as phantom without cloak, faced a sawbonez and kek’d him easily, his reaction: “ENJOY THE NERFS NOOB” and he left the server. :smiley:

I think he’s fine the way he is. My biggest problem is he’s REALLY difficult to see. I get that’s the point, and I’m not sure if I have shader issues or something, but he’s 100% invisible to me. I only see maybe a slight blur? idk.

Anyway. Besides that, he’s fine to me. If you’re good at flanking and have good sense of right timing for attack, he’s probably extremely strong. I don’t so much, so my gameplay with him is mediocre. It all depends on the players’ skill how they use him. I’d only make him a little bit easier to track. Even when Phantom teammates stand in front of me for medpacks (especially on chapel), I just toss at their names. I can’t see them at all!

I’ve been playing him with my partner, who is level 21 (which I feel means it’s obvious he’s going to be very competent with most mercs), and you can’t imagine the level of rage. We’ve even sat and told them… use heartbeat sensors. Turn your sound up. Have someone watch your six. But people did this with Sparks too, said she ruined the game and she was OP.

I just assume cries of “OP”/“cancer!” accompany any new merc. Sure, he can be tweaked (bugs people mentioned), but honestly I still die a lot with Phantom. You need to have such good timing to spring people, otherwise you get rekt.

His invisibility is obvious to catch, even with my config which makes him harder to see the invisibility is not very useful. I have seen one good player with him so far, he stood still and waiting for someone to come up because that’s when invisibility works. Overall he’s just a big gimmick of being tanky and up in your face out of nowhere because the average player doesn’t bother looking for grey outlines to shoot at, that’s probably the only OP thing about him. The fact that allies let him sneak through and behind you and then he’s all up in your face and if you don’t have a high dps weapon you are potentially screwed. Just wait next week for him on free rotation, everybody is going to play him and find out how mediocre he is. He is just like the Rhino, something that appears OP at first and maybe is in some rare situations but when you compare his usefulness and traits he is actually bottom tier. I’d like to see him changed to be more useful along with Rhino against decent players.

My idea for a change for him would be that he’s 100% invisible when a certain distance away and much easier to catch when he’s closer to you, so you know for sure when you are hidden and when you are not.

Phantom definitely needs some tweaking, like his katana is ridiculously easy to hit with even if you miss the initial stab theres a stupid amount of active frames on it and you can just walk or turn into someone and still kill them. but I think the real problem with him is he still doesnt help the team in any way. As he currently is he’s more of an assault class but is supposed to be a recon.

Agree hands down with the first part of your post. He does help his team though, eliminating the enemy is a huge help, possibly the biggest.

Extremely OP, any player, and I rreally mean ANY, can do great with him.

Cloak, rush enemy spawn, backstab and one shot/2 shot everyone with your katana, that’s so easy to do and shouldn’t be so powerful AND so tanky

  • Too tanky (120HP + armor)
  • Too long cloack duration while sprinting
  • Too easy to kill with katana (look here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhLy2LSc3qA )
  • Has the best two of the best SMG’s in the game, even if ATM he’s doesn’t even needs them considering how katana is powerful

Of course he is, but if you spin your mouse really quickly you can pretty much get the same results. Especially if they’re all in front of you and you only need to go 180 degrees instead of 360.

You can also use the stab then strafe past people to hit them all. It’s just dumb right now.

Scripting? Not the same as cheating, all he is doing is using a bind that does a constant 360, nothing more.
