Phantom poll with unbiased options

(Yes) #1

All the polls I’ve seen on Phantom have been extremely biased, I wanted to create one that has options to actually fit everyone’s (or as many people as possible) opinion.

I, personally, am voting slightly OP, I think the cooldown is a bit too short.

(kAndyREW) #2

I think slightly OP, not too much. He’s fine as is, but it wouldn’t hurt to take away chopper for his katana and maybe decrease his base health to 100. other than that it’s good.

(Yes) #3

That’s actually a good point I completely forgot about. Chopper for his katana is pretty nuts.

(shroudedMacadamia) #4

I dont own him yet and I have not played against him enough to form an opinion yet, only played for an hour or so yesterday and didnt get killed by a Phantom once, didnt kill very many either as they are tanky enough to escape when they get attacked.

However I spectated one on my team and it looked rediculous how many kills he got. Also some YT clips I have seen also made me raise my eybrows.

In short, no opinion yet but he “seems” a bit OP so far.

(sinKrin) #5

I voted slightly OP, although there is a heck of a melodrama over him right now.

Reposting my reasons from another thread:

My biggest gripe from playing with/against Phantom is the cool down on his cloak.

I think it only takes 5 seconds to regenerate from fully depleted. It’s even quicker when you’ve still got left energy left . I was able to drop my cloak with around 1/3 left and only had to wait 2-3 seconds for it to charge up. IMHO the cool down needs an increase.

I know some have mentioned about the melee attack. I did notice I was hitting some Mercs when by all rights I should’ve missed.

I also recognise people have mentioned about his HP. I think with a longer cool down on the cloak his 120HP wouldn’t be so much of an issue.

Edit: As a side note, I developed a bug in one game where I couldn’t use the cloak. Swapping between Mercs didn’t rectify it. When I quit out of the server and joined another it seemed to be OK.

OP need a major character revision. Cooldown need to be longer. Then either make it tanky but slower or keep it nimble but reduce or better remove the cloack shield. Because a very fast ninja with the health of a rhino that can kill you while you barely notice him is not balanced at all imho.

(Ghosthree3) #7

Slightly OP. I feel like a tiny change here or there would put him in a good place.

Here’s a list of possibles I made in another thread:
It is too early to propose any changes for certain. BUT, I have considered the following, alone or in any combination:

 • Nerf shield cooldown, it feels like it’s always up.
 • Reduce shield damage absorbtion. Unsure about this one though, I don’t think it’s that bad.
 • Make heavy Katana swing much harder to hit, right now there’s a massive window for dealing damage with it and it’s just too easy. This one needs to happen imo.
 • Remove Chopper from his Katana loadouts. This should probably happen too.
 • Reduce health a bit, 100 or 110 would be small but significant.
i think slightly op

Its good you are trying for a more unbiased poll but be aware that as a social community we are taught that its rather bad to hold very strong (read: aggressive or “extreme”) views on things that are still undecided by that community.

Most ppl might be more sensitive to others by just saying “slightly” - if its an option - over a more stronger position in order to create a less aggressive environment.

I’m just gonna leave my opinion here:

I honestly think Phantom is balanced as is. Melee was always a really good way to get kills and Phantom has that as his main purpose since I never saw a Phantom actively doing any objectives. Despite him killing people a lot, kills have little to no impact on the actual game mode, furthermore I don’t think his health should be reduced because I noticed something regarding Mercs with higher health and lower health:

Higher health = lower movespeed, lower health = higher movespeed, -> If he’d get less hp he’d really be even more terrifying because I know what an Aura with a Stilleto and Chopper can do, with enough practice she can do a Rhino with 3 right clicks (Trust me, I done it), not to mention the fact that he’ll have dodging made even easier with the added movespeed.

In a nutshell I think people need to get used to the fact that Phantom is now in the game and given enough time they’ll start to understand how he works because right now everyone is like “PLS NERF”, and with time I’m sure that players will start noticing and being careful more if he’s in the game.

Also a note: I don’t own Phantom, I find it hilarious when I beat him into submission with a cricket bat as Skyhammer. /opinion

Either something needs to be done about his mitigation, his cooldown, or his health. Just don’t take him 6 feet under, he’s a frag class and should be balanced as such.

That’s a fair point. I would hope people are voting how they truly feel, but there for sure are people that would want to avoid upsetting people. Though, the kind of person who would be upset at others for disagreeing on whether or not Phantom is OP is the kind of person that should be looked down upon. The people that visit the forums here regularly don’t seem to be that kind of person though.

(PanSzatan) #12

Slightly op here.
I bought Phantom yesterday, played a few hours and honestly the only change he needs is to incerase his ability recharge time. Lowering his hp would to 100 would be a bit too much considering he is very slow for a melee merc. Currently the only problem i see is that ability to peek corners, which is huge advantage, BUT it is really hard to jump to any conclusions now because it will take some time so pubs can adapt. I already fought with some players that just spotted me instantly at 30m +/-. Cloaking is harder every match I play.

(D'@athi) #13

As I wrote in the other thread, got the feeling he is quite ok.
Shield feels a bit spammy, yes. And probably the damage of the Katana should be a bit lower on the standard-attack and higher on the second one, so this backstabbing-thing would make more sense than an allout-front-attack on noobs.

Well people need to harden up and stop being scared about expressing an opinion under a name not even their own.

Really ghost? u just set the internet back 10 years with your backwards idea of how people interact here works - and failing to get it that we are not anon here but our gaming tags might be just as perm as our real names.

Ive been RuleofBooKz for about 20 years. In this game. In the last SD game - right back to before ET. On forums and all over the gaming world. My name matters to me. Its known and the rep of it matters - just like in real life hey!

its not about being “scared” or about being a tough cunt and no - u are not “anon” here. You need a link to a good communication / psychology textbook?

(Glot) #16

i like that this POll is not biased! <3

voted Extremely OP, because that is exactly how i see him.
because he is more difficult to kill with a light merc, than a fragger (who is still OP)!!
vs a fragger i can drop’n’blow Proxy mine and dodge - fragger needs to land several shot on a light merc while Kataka 1shots all the pretty little girls in the game =((((

Your online identity is still only online though. Even if it wasn’t, no one cares what your opinion is, if they dislike it they’ll most likely ignore it. Either way there’s no reason to be afraid of being seen as having a strong opinion.

(frzn) #18

I voted op because I think the problem is pretty significant, but I think it’s specifically that he’s too tanky on top of all his other combat advantages. Imo either his cloak shouldn’t be a shield (maybe make it a separate ability on a longer cooldown, or just get rid of it entirely) or its cooldown should be longer. Right now even if the person playing him uses his stealth poorly they still get a large advantage in a firefight because he can just soak damage so well.

(Frogteam) #19

Mostly fine, make the cool down longer so he has to be more selective about when he uses it. Honestly I’d rather they not decrease his base health because it would be paired with an increase to his speed, and I like being able to outrun the guy with the sword.

(RuleofBooKz) #20

ghost - its irrelevant if its face to face or on the net - that is just how people act. Unless they are tending towards being a sociopath. Now while some think just because ur using a gamer tag u can be like a sociopath “omg they play shooting games they must be troubled!!!” fortunately they are in the minority. People behave and act just fine online as in RL.

the poll does not state exactly what the options are and leaves the wording open to individual interpretation: slightly to some might be others extreme.

“id slightly nerf the merc by removing 10 HP”

“id do an extreme nerf - as much as ten HP to the merc!”

etc etc
