[Phantom] Katana as an ability

Time and time again in the forums, people consistently ask: “Why doesn’t every Phantom loadouts have a Katana?”. Well, here is my fix to that.

Phantom has a new ability: Katana. This would mean that every Phantom loadouts would come with both a knife AND a Katana, whilst forcing Phantom players to keep a tactical playstyle in mind by putting a cooldown on the Katana. For example the cooldown could be based on the amount of damage dealt with the Katana. This would act as both a nerf AND a buff, giving all loadouts Katanas but also a cooldown time.

Edit: Since RMB is so broken, it should be redone. RMB now does an attack in which Phantom swings his sword downward and does collosal amounts of damage, attack is slow and has a ~20 second cooldown. This remains balanced because of cooldown. Thank you @Kevin

Did you actually read the thread and my reasons, justifications, ect. for this? Not to mention the fact that not every Phantom loadout card comes with a knife. Gettin’ real sick of your non-justified smart-ass comments @sensitiveJellyfish

Attacking from invisibility with the Ability!Katana would increase the cooldown.

Then again, that’s the only weapon that should even be possible with.

The only thing I’m seeing you do is making phantom worse…

The katana is his best weapon giving that a cooldown would make him completely useless, and the loadout card that is said to be the best for phantom does have a katana, it shouldn’t be to hard buying it.

And your justification is what exactly? People that don’t buy a katana loadout should nerf phantom for the rest of the people that did buy a katana loadout?

Because people that buy a particular loadout should definitely have an advantage. Yeah, that’s not pay to win. Not at all.

Making it his only usable weapon while invisible would certainly reduce that problem, while still letting Phantom get the drop on mofos. The increased cooldown for doing so? Now you have to finish that guy with another weapon. This means those fighting against him aren’t going to suddenly get hacked down in two blows with no chance to fight back.

So many gameplay enhancements just from that alone. And that’s not the only reason to make Ability!Katana.

You’re a legitimate r*tard if you think that giving him both a knife AND a Katana would make him worse. It’s not like I’m suggesting Phantom looses his Katana, in fact, giving every Phantom a Katana should make him more equal and balanced. Giving him a small 10 second cooldown for every 4 slashes that hits people isn’t going to affect his usefulness, it’s going to force people to make better decisions as Phantom because of how they can no longer run into crowds and sword spam and make his knife loadouts less useless as well.

Perhaps consider the fact that I’m not talking about just your pleb, Bronze storeboughts and instead all cards. It won’t make Phantom weaker, it will make Phantom a more thinkable and skill requiring class.

P.S. Not rage, just returning what I get. If I get half-assed comments from smartassess, they should expect the same.

When was your suggestion a nerf and buff? Maybe to you it seems like both, but making his katana an ability with no real buff to the katana and giving it a cooldown is just limiting Phantom’s use of the katana not buffing him.

Obviously, with the Katana having a cooldown, something good has to be added. My suggestion was RMB no longer lunges and instead cuts straight down. This attack would do a LOT of damage, however, has a 20 second cooldown. This way, it’s not OP and it’s not UP.

Quick Melee already solves a problem like this, you can bind quick melee to a button and use it like an ability. He always does a lunge.

That’s not the point of the post. I’m saying that every Phantom should get a Katana, just like how all Naders have a Nade launcher. We need to make Katana a less brain afk weapon by adding a cooldown and new attacks.

The problem with the katana less loadouts is that they’re shit.

None of them have increased abilty duration, and none of them have side augments that encourage a different style of play.

Adding a cool down to the katana is not only a bad idea, but utterly pointless since they’ve already stated other mercs could have it in the future. It’s only nerf him harder than he already has been.

We should give Phantom a second ability, something that fits with his role and supports his team.

If Katana-less loadouts are sh*t then why not give them one with an ability? This way, Phantoms can get knives and a Katana at the same time. Perhaps a special Katana that can mark enemies like a proper recon class? Idk.

Hmmm can we also give skyhammer an m4 as ability? It’s one of his best and easiest to use weapons and totally does not add any value to strategic play, lets give every skyhammer a full mag for the m4 with a 20 sec cd for the rest they’ll have to use the timik or br16…

There’s a ton of ways to go about this

A throwing knife with an emp or a tracking dart on it. Interacting with dead bodies to disguise as them (like in wolfenstein enemy territory), or have any attacks from behind deal 25% more damage and gib instantly on kill.

But giving the katana a cool down just puts Phantom further down the tier list.

Are you kidding? Without the M4, Skyhammer is still deadly as f*ck. A Phantom without a Katana is just a semitransparent Bushwhacker without a turret.

But this still lets the problem of sh*tty knife Phantom loadouts remain. Fix what’s in the game first, implement more later.
