Why on the earth the phantom’s invisibility disables when he attacks !!! if that isn’t the thing … it will lot of fun with phantom !! let it disable when the given duration goes off … plss dirty bomb make this possible
i need more stabbity stab
Phantom Invisibility :
My theory about the refractive armor is that it uses electromagnetic fields to deflect incoming bullets and other forms of damage. However, in order to be able to attack from within the field, it would have to be disabled first.
but no xp for using refractive armour like the other merc’s ability has !! he makes noise while invisible … he is partially visible … like this there are so many negatives for his armour … so at least this would be balancing !!!
Make him fully invisible, but make it so that he has to uncloak before attacking.
There, he’s fixed.

Eh, don’t think they’d want a copy and paste TF2 spy. Would rather see fully invisible, but invisibility degrades over time.
It’s hard enough getting to your opponents when they can see and hear you in cloak. By the time you’re out of cloak, you have to wait the 12 second cool down post-nerf to even flee after a kill: no matter what the range is, even with the kek-10. In the 12 seconds it takes for your cloak to re-charge, there’s a good chance the entire enemy team (if coordinated) will be able to spot and kill you. Phantom is slow in comparison to many mercs.
(honestly, if we’d given a proxy clone his cloak and the hollunds she’d be better at single-target assassinations than him.)

Fun fact: Proxy soundfiles contain quotes for cloaking
About Phantom in general, I wish he was brought back to Closed Beta state, where katana was his primary and silenced selbstadt was a secondary, his cloak was silent and more transparent, he was faster and katana was more deadly

Pretty much the nerf was caused due to a sore-loosing player base who coulndt understand what a “stealth” character is.

Stealth characters are always incredibly divisive and for good reason. A lot of times you feel cheap playing as one and you definitely feel like it’s cheap playing against them. Also, in a game like Dirty Bomb that is advertised as an old school shooter it doesn’t make much sense.

What do you mean that it’s been advertised as an old school shooter and how wouldn’t it make much sense exactly?
People would have had to sneak up right ontop of people if they wanted to make much damage and the other team could change accordingly by having at least one Redeye, Vasilli or Aimee about.
As for and Old School shooter it’s just seams that they haven’t gone over the edge with aiming down sights and hip firing isn’t equal to missing at shooting the broadside of a barn.

SD wanted to make a game that played like the older shooters, specifically Wolf, but had a modern design. They also wanted a game that was designed strictly for the PC. That is how the game was presented to founder’s. A game that focused on older shooting mechanics and was not influenced by console control systems (the press a button to do something cool looking like in Brink rather than actually doing it yourself).
It’s a game that is supposed to be focused on shooting each other and a melee character that can always pick their first target and easily take them out goes against that design. Which is why Phantom’s refractive armor and melee ability was toned down and has stayed that way. They want people to shoot at each other.

And make him silent. Seriously what kind of cloaked assassin would want to be louder than a lawnmower?
Silent and more invisible. Not fully invisible.
Many people mistake phantom’s primary as melee. The melee is still impractical, melee when it makes sense but don’t use it like a primary weapon. Try going a few rounds shooting ppl out of cloak.
Full cooldown is 10 seconds btw.
Firstly, refractive armour does actually give you exp when enemies walk nearby you. I am not sure of the area, but I think I once got this exp when I was standing still in a room above ammo box at Trainyard 1st objective, and enemy went to grab ammo. It’s quite useful sometimes for knowing if groups are pushing your location. The exp amount itself could be higher, afaik it’s like 10 or so per enemy “refracted”.
Secondly, in my honest opinion what makes Phantom feel bs cheap to use and play against (I have him and occasionally test him out in especifically Execution) is exactly that he can exit his cloak instantly, having a jump on enemy like no other. Only counterplay against that is positioning and communication, which both cannot be so well contained or utilised or even expected to be utilised well in public enviroment. They are however so strong in more competitive settings that Phantom becomes absolutely useless there.
However, if Phantom had to manually exit the cloak (like TF2 Spy, inb4 errmahhgewwd copying think of how many games have copied mechanics over and over to begin with. It’d be using what works, not blatant copying) this surprise would need more thoughtful planning, not allowing to ram head-first into opponent from corner and stab them into thorax dealing massive, unpreventable damage. He’d have to plan where to exit cloak and so forth. This kind of simple change would also allow Phantom’s cloak to be completely invisibile and even unaudible, without feeling absolute bs.
As much as I love that idea, can’t phantom simply wait to take damage for his cloak to disappear, then attack anyways? (only issue i’ve seen with the idea is how it’s currently programmed in-game)
That’s a fantastic point, didn’t thought of it. From top of my head now I thought of maybe forcing him “fiddle” with the console he has on his hand if cloak runs out completely, maybe punch it even for the giggles, for same kind of brief moment as manual de-cloak requires.
Being spotted (even if not by a recon) would be instant-death then and leave little-to-no room for an escape or re-cloak. I still am annoyed at the cool down nerf of his ability from six seconds to almost double. Visibility too. If it were kept at a flat 90 percent, it would be amazing for flanking, but still be target-able by VERY keen eyes: not just anyone glancing in the phantom’s general direction. If you’re sneaking directly up on someone though, the noise the armor currently has would be more than a slight give away. If one uses the cloak to sneak PAST an enemy team and shoot them in the back, a reduced cool down would give phantom a chance to escape after burning through his cloak to flank in the first place.
I never really agreed with phantom having armor while in cloak pre or post nerf. It becomes inconsequential after phantom fires a single bullet. (A shotgun blast to the head leaves him with only a tiny amount of HP even starting from full armor at the moment. - An Aura can kill a phantom with 1 head shot and 1 body shot starting from full refractive armor.) The armor only gives phantom the first shot, which doesn’t matter too much against any groups of opponents or someone who can hear him coming.
