Phantom Complaint Master Thread

(loonyTop) #101

I used to love playing it. Now I don’t want to. The whole enjoyment for me was that maps progress, and even if it didn’t you couldn’t get people simply camping on the objective because they would die too easily. Now that’s all that happens. They wait till the see/hear/motion sense someone and they go invisible then stab you in the back. Anything that allows someone to play without any skill requirement whatsoever but fatally influence the game play is an awful thing.

(MTLMortis) #102

No it doesn’t. Shoot shield off, shoot face, keep backing up and he’s toast. Listen for the shield noise and be aware of him moving cloaked.

Can I have your loadout cards?

Then don’t let him get close. If he does that means you need to work on your situational awareness. Yes, the class needs some tweaking but it’s not the broken OP god-class people are crying about. That’s why we have a beta before release, and tuning passes with each update.

Better to play now and figure out your counters than wait and still have to do it later.

(richMarriage) #103

I hate this class, and it single handedly made me go from having as much fun as I’ve had in multiplayer in a long time, to ZERO fun playing this game overnight.

I don’t care whether he’s balanced or not right now. If he’s balanced, then I’m done with this game. It’s not fun. The four people I was playing with last night all reached the same conclusion. OVERNIGHT.

This single class is cancer, and needs to be substantially nerfed, reworked, or removed. It’s anti-fun and completely breaks the feel of the game as a FPS objective and squad based game. I mean, Jesus, how does a stealth tank SMG samurai even make sense in a team based, “pseudo realistic guns” shooter?

(DMaster2) #104

But i already know how to play against him. Being a greedy bstrd that use the motion sensor to save his own back instead of using it near obj to help the team. And i don’t like that way of playing.

(antiqueJuke) #105

At least remove it from competitive for the mean time.

Badum
Bumping this, because I have thought of way to implement my idea for his cloak.

 • First, get rid of the armor, or at least make it so he only takes 50% of incoming damage while cloaked.
 • Second, have his cloak make him completely invisible unless his speed goes above a certain point. What’s the point? The fastest he can move, walking, holding his Katana. When his speed goes above that, make him more visible.
 • Also make him flicker every time he’s shot, so the enemy can track him more easily.

Do these things first, see how he plays
(novelTimepiece) #107

Damn, reading this thread you’d think the guy was invulnerable. I don’t really consider myself a good player but I have little trouble with the guy. He’s not NEARLY as tanky as a lot of people are making him out to be, remember 75 damage is the MAX his shield can absorb and that’s ONLY for the first split second. If he’s running he’s very easy to see and if you’re in a group the best he’s going to do is trade 1 for 1 and likely not even get the gib.

My only worry is when these players figure out the sword is gimmicky and picking people off with the SMG after stealthing to flanking positions is a much better strategy. But right now everyone seems to be using his sword which makes him pretty easy to deal with.

(Eox) #108

Thank god. I just came back from a game with an actually half competant Phantom, and it was totally unpleasent to fight against him.

(MTLMortis) #109

That doesn’t actually state anything about nerfing, modifying or changing Phantom. It’s a tweet stating there here is Totalbiscuit playing the Phantom merc, and remember to not be a dick.

Till I see something clearly stating otherwise I’m not going to believe they’re already thinking of changing the class without many days worth of data. It takes time to shake things out and I hate to use the term, but the current meta changed the paradigm of the game and people need time to get used to it.

(Yak) #110

I don’t know if he’s OP or not and frankly I don’t care. He’s just exceedingly un-fun to fight in any situation.

(Kaos88) #111

Most reasonable way to tweak him would be to /remove him from the game  He’s not needed in this type of game. Thank you

(Fuze) #112

That awkward moment when you realize you posted a Tweet promoting a YouTuber going to town with Phantom and somehow translate that to “We’re nerfing Phantom”… Uh, what?

(capriRocket) #113

i play him and ofc its fun to wreck groups of enemies.
at the same time it is pretty annoying playing vs him.

i dont think we need a stealth char in this game but i like the shield he has and the katana allows for some well ranged melee combat.

if id nerf him id remove the cloak, buff his shield slightly and make him a tad faster while sacrificing some other stat.
he wpuld remain tactical and fun to play for me, and less gamebreaking in general.

(savoryLettuce) #114

Remove Character because those who like him have fun wrong ?

(Ghosthree3) #115

He’ll lose some HP. Why do I know? Because MissMurder said in the Phantom thread a week ago that they were considering that change.

(waggishVoice) #116

Just remove the dude I say. He adds nothing to the game.

(watsyurdeal) #117

Just for reference folks

I did a playtest with him recently and while getting snuck up on is NOT fun at all… I wouldn’t say he is super OP but I think maybe it would be more balanced if we reduce his HP a bit. So let us know what you guys think of him. We are looking to get him out this week so fingers crossed on that. I’ll let you know as soon as I know an exact ETA.
Not saying that’s what they’re doing but MissMurder said this, so take it with a grain of salt.

(humaneCushion) #118

Invisibility =/= Stealth

It’s a cheap way to give the “feeling” of being a sneaky guy to people who lack the mental/manual capacity to actually sneak past the enemy lines.
A mechanic like that has no place in a game that offers adequate possibilities for actual stealth.

At best, a character like this should be forced to use the invisibility to do anything at all(like TF2 Spy), and certainly not double as a shield on a character that has some of the best weapons from the best weapon group available.

(Amerika) #119

I was incredibly surprised that his cloak doubled as a shield. When I saw the role call video that was the first thing I thought of for potential abuse. Maybe they weren’t confident that his invisibility was good enough and felt like they had to add that. Personally I’d be fine if they left his HP the same as it is or maybe 10 points lower and removed the shield on the cloak or simply made it reduce incoming damage by 25-50% (and reducing his HP if that’s the case).

I personally think he’s a bit ‘meh’ right now and doing as I suggest might make him relatively worthless overall…but that might not actually be a bad thing in this game.

(watsyurdeal) #120

I just want them to take a hint from Tribes regarding cloak, the faster you moved, the more visible you are.

I really think walking, crouch walking, or just standing still should make you completely invisible. Sprinting and jumping should make you easier to see, as does taking any kind of damage.
