Flamethrower is useful in several other situations, too (e.g. defending the bank on Goldrush). It doesn’t take much practice before you don’t fry your teammates much. When there are medics around, it can be useful in even wide open areas, such as fighting over the bridge-building point on Fueldump.

Anyhow, I’d support moving the smg to weapon bank 2, although I’ve no idea how easy or difficult it would be.

Got my vote. You select it through the menu as a secondary weapon, instead of the pistol. Therefore, it should take the pistol’s place in the secondary weapon slot (AKA weapon bank 2).

Agree totally with wraith. Pure logic.

The discussion about soldiers being overpowered/unbalanced is irrelevant imo, that is something altogether different to a user-friendly interface.

(/me asks self why I didn’t get that job play testing for a reputable games co. :???: )

  1. I agree - the SMG should be moved to a weapon 2 slot (for a soldier with level 4, that is). Regardless, it’s nice to have the highest accuracy with a heavy weapon and an SMG. :smiley:

  2. On the flamethrower, you can really do some damage in shrub if you are also a level 4 medic. Poke yourself with adrenaline (which is carried over from your medic skill), and whip out the flamethrower. Hmmm, full sprint for 10 seconds, half damage, and a flamethrower.

Making a clone of the SMG to place in slot #2 for soldiers would be absolutely great. I can’t think of any good reason not to do it. It would probably make life for people with gun draw off easier too.

Interesting bug with the level 4 panzer (dunno about mg42/mortar/flamthrower - untested)

Develop your heavy weapon skills to level 4 and you’re awarded with a SMG. Then change class to medic/fieldops/engineer etc., then change back to heavy weaps.
LVL 4 SMG now gone - only knife/pistol/nade available. Frustrating or wot?

That old bug is well known. But your SMG is still available, you just have to go to the Limbo menu and select it manually. It’s only auto-selected when you first get it, not when you change class to soldier. This has been fixed in some unofficial patches.

However, while we’re mentioning other bugs, here’s a problem 1.2 introduced: once you get akimbo pistols, you can no longer trade your Thompson for an MP40 (or vice-versa). If there was a new patch, it’d be nice to see that fixed.

I agree here also… most annoying having them on the same bank.

Oh and i also never saw a devastating flamer. I do like the guys out in the middle of wide open areas with the flamethrower trying to flame dudes not even close to them.

We’re sick of not knowing what weapon we’ll get, and getting switched to the grenade after we fire off our panzers!
