People Who Will Be Unable To Download DLC

(Ultima) #1

So, here it is, another thread about the DLC, I know you guys are probably rolling your eyes already. However, this is not a thread where I’m going to come in and bash the DLC or the decision to make it free for two weeks only. This is just a thread to count up the people who will be unable to obtain it in that time, so here it goes.

SD’s announcement that everybody has no doubt seen shocked the members of these forums, including many devoted Brink followers. I at first thought ‘well okay, I see why they’re doing it, just two weeks so that the people that stayed dedicated through all of this will get a little compensation’. However, the more I thought about it, the worse the time limit sounded. As I’ve said before, this is not bashing, I pre-ordered Brink after following it for months. I watched excitedly as the release date neared, and when it finally came and I got my copy I eagerly popped it in and began to play(even before downloading my free Psycho Pack). I’ve been addicted ever since, this game is fun, it’s different and I can hardly get enough of it. I saw the problems and witnessed them firsthand, some frustrated me but I still couldn’t stop playing because this game is just fun.

Then, I heard about the free DLC, constantly having the SD and Bethesda and even the Stats site up on my comp, it wasn’t long until I found out about it. Needless to say, I was even more excited, I mean come on, new content! I watched and watched as June went by, and then the announcement came “Free for the first two weeks”. I didn’t mind that much, after all it was meant for the dedicated players, but as I thought about it, the problems began to arrive. Talks of community splitting have validity. I actually play single player free play mostly, no MP for me, but I still saw people’s point. And then, another problem, people who wouldn’t be able to get the DLC in that time.

The main problem, it’s Summer time in most parts of the world, many people may be on vacation or people with jobs could be away on business. So what does that mean? No free DLC for them, that’s what. I happen to be one of those people, I will be gone for most likely the whole month of July. That whole time, my Xbox will either be unavailable or unable to connect to LIVE if I do bring it with me. This means, I would not be able to get the DLC. I have also heard of Steam being down in the UK which means they might miss the DLC(although I would hope SD would give at least these people the DLC for free after the two weeks if they can’t even get to Brink to download). This means that it would not be fair for these people, even being dedicated fans, they wouldn’t be able to get to the DLC. Especially this time of year with many on vacation and such, this seems more than a little unfair. That is specifically why I made this thread. Read below details or if you didn’t want to read the long version.

TL;DR Long story short, I want to form a list of exactly how many people will be unable to download the DLC within the time limit. Either because they will be away from home or because they are even unable to get to the game, add your name and hopefully SD will see this and feel inclined to do something. Honestly, I don’t want to leave Brink, I’ve grown a liking to it and it is addictive to me, I probably won’t leave if I miss the DLC but I would be disheartened a little and many others would too. Only add your name if you will be UNABLE TO DOWNLOAD THE DLC WITHIN THE TIME PERIOD.

List(please add Gamertag, ID or Username):

Pretty damn glad the electronics company decided to just replace my console rather than repair it… if it got sent with the monthly shipment of systems to be repaired to Australia, I probably wouldn’t get it back in time to pick up the DLC. 2 weeks is pretty damn cheeky considering the flaws we’re politely (some, not so) putting up with.

You can que a download from the internets.

(wolfnemesis75) #4

Only if it is on marketplace. The DLC is also an update and requires that you have the game loaded…not sure if it will be on marketplace until it costs money.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #5

Where else would it be?

I’m saying as long as it’s qued before it costs money he won’t have to pay he can then just go to download again (for free) when he gets his box back : )

(wolfnemesis75) #6

part of the update. it will download in-conjunction with the update/patch. after the 2 week period, the DLC goes on the market place but will need a redeem code. the game launches the download and DLC. similar to having a beta included with a game like crackdown. you have to have the actual game to load the beta. this will work similarly with the DLC for Brink I’d imagine.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #7

Oh, I’ve never seen it done like that before.

(Shinigami) #8

the DLC will not download in conjunction to the update. reaosn i say this is because the DLC will cost money after the two weeks so you can put it in conjuction with update. that being said, im one of the people who is leaving on a trip literally the first two weeks of july so its very likely that i will not be able to download. oh and ps3 doesnt queue DLC. not that i know of anyways

DLC will require that you have the Brink disk loaded. The DLC will be listed in the menu of the disk after the update. You can not play Brink without the update. After the two week period ends, the DLC will be on the marketplace for all to purchase. It should work like that. I suppose if it doesn’t, you could download the DLC even if you don’t have the disk, then purchase the game, and be able to use the free dlc. This seems less likely, but may be possible.

I think people seem to be a little confused about the DLC and the updates. They’re SEPARATE. They said a while a go that the new updates would be released along the Agents Of Change DLC pack. There’s nothing in anything SD or Bethesda said in the last month that stated the update “is” part of the DLC. The update will come in a patch, most likely the day before the DLC is released same as any other game that releases a patch to update the software before a DLC release. Again, people keep reading to deeply into what was stated clearly and concisely, and drawing needless and misinformed conclusions as result. The DLC will have a price tag after two weeks. The patch will update the software on your PS3/360 just like any other game. If someone doesn’t get the DLC within the two week window, they’ll still get the update patch when they boot the game up.

Yeah, I went and checked that out afterwards to make sure I could get to the marketplace from Xbox.com, the main problem is if my computer will be available. Well if mine’s not another should be I guess, it should only take a minute to go and click download and when I get home and turn it on, it should be sitting there ready right? I’m mainly leaving this thread up for people who will be on vacation and won’t have access(although they should hopefully be able to find a computer with internet easily) and mainly for the UK Steam users who might miss it(although I think SD will find some way to fix this if it happens). Also there could be various reasons someone could miss it, my main goal was to get a basic view of how big the group that’s going to miss it will be.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #12

I understand.

(Ultima) #13

I didn’t think about it not being on the marketplace. This seems strange but it could be possible, since there is a Downloadable Content tab clearly there on the main menu. Although, I thought that was just so you can find Brink DLC that is already on the marketplace easier or check out new Brink DLC easier without having to search the marketplace. I could be wrong, but I think that’s the case.

Yeah, I kind of blanked out there and forgot completely about Xbox.com, so hopefully I should be able to get the DLC within the two weeks, if not I’m probably in a coma. Oh, I could just imagine that: WARNING!!! DO NOT READ BELOW IF YOU ARE PRONE TO FITS OF RAGE!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Doc: ‘Oh hey, you’re awake!’
Guy: ‘What happened?’
Doc: ‘Oh nothing really, got hit by a truck, went flying through the air, but you survived, you should be fine.’
Guy: ‘How long have I been out?’
Doc: ‘About two weeks.’
Guy: immediately thinks of Brink DLC ‘Son of a…just kill me now doc.’
Doc: ‘What, don’t you want to see your family?’
Guy: ‘No, don’t you understand you fool! I missed the d*** DLC!!!’

Okay, so back on topic, I’m just leaving this up for other peoples’ benefit, again to try and get an idea on how big a group it is going to be. I’m guessing small, since it should be easy to go and click Download Now within two weeks, but as I said before, a myriad of problems could make somebody incapable(most of which would also make them incapable to post in this thread anyways so…). Umm…yeah, maybe it’s a useless thread after all, in that case may it die swiftly! distracts and runs

This is why God made flash bangs

(Smoochy) #16

a month would be fair.

(Ultima) #17

I agree, and wouldn’t people just run and buy Brink as soon as the DLC comes out anyways? Well, you know, if they didn’t have it anyways.

(Jamieson) #18

Well considering the DLC option for UK players is still broke I think its a pretty big problem, as a result even If Im sat at my computer waiting for the DLC I wont be able to download it and I wont pay for it in the future out of principle.

(Cep) #19

Totally agree, if as a UK player I am forced to have to pay for the DLC, you can forget it. This time and for all future releases. There is no way I am going to be put out because of the s*** decision to use Steam in the first place and then because of some ridiculous legal issue.

LMAO, it’s so funny I don’t even pity you. Google about the world and some geography.
