I’m not going to make this long since it’s going to end up a rant, in the future could there a way to prevent people from abusing the shuffle teams? I’m finding the game a lot less fun because when one team is winning, the opposing side has some mad player who decides that if they can’t win then no one can. So near the end of the round the opposing side all approve the shuffle and end up ruining the experience for everyone. I know this is frequent and that many people will say that you should expect this, it’s the internet so you shouldn’t expect less. But just because one player is pissed does not give the right to ruin the experience for other players. It’s frustrating to play the game only to see that being on the team was pointless.
People abusing shuffle teams
It’s been suggested a million times, and I’m not really sure why it isn’t in the game yet. 99% of my games these days (no exaggeration, I can’t even remember the last time someone didn’t try shuffle mid game) involve someone shuffling with 2 minutes or less to go, or just callvoting shuffle multiple times until they have the best player in the server on their team.
@stayfreshshoe any update on this? I know you guys were considering it a while ago, and it’s seriously just beyond retarded now.
imo they should just get rid of vote shuffle altogether and replace it with autoshuffle. people are dicks and computers, despit all it’s flaws, are better than humans, in this aspect, at least. shuffle when one team is outnumbered by 2 enemies or more, when majority of kills start happening right outside of the spawn etc
In the outnumbering case, shuffle is useless. Someone has to do it by himself right now since there’s no team autobalance, which would be the most useful feature atm for public games.
I’m so fed up with this, I now bring the big guns : if the shuffle has not been started in the very first 2 minutes of the game, I send a warn, if he starts again I start a votekick. They generally witness how close they are from being out and stops.
if one team has 7 players and another team has 5 players, one of the former team should automatically be assigned to the latter team, basic math, man! you dont need to make a joke out of team balance in DB for us to appreciate it!
Because of those players who abuse shuffle real shuffles get denied. I voted on a game where I joined into a team which was 6K behind anyone on the enemy team and one man short. 7 minutes left, I shuffled. Guess what happened.
@Jostabeere ok I’ll bite did the shuffle get denied? Did the shuffle pass and nothing change?
A very simple solution would be to have an automatic shuffle by the server at the beginning of each map during warm-up. That way the shuffle has already been done before the game starts and people won’t need to fckng do it again 20 times during the game.
This just reflects the problem with today’s generation, calling everything ‘unfair’ and not being able to handle a bit of difficulty, so yeah “let’s shuffle with 2 minutes left”…
Just make the shuffle automatic, that would avoid starting a map with 4 guys who are +30 lvls on one side while the other team has 6 guys who are -10 lvls.
In Ranked and Private Matches the automatic shuffle would obviously be turned off.
It’s gonna be so good when levels are hidden and shuffle is disabled.
No more blaming and shaming.
If you really think that levels matter in this game, come watch me aim as a level 45 and LOL along with the rest of teamspeak.
The best shuffle is when it just swaps whole teams, attackers<->defenders. How do things like this even go through testing?

That happens when the teams are already “perfectly” shuffled. Like when you join a server, everyone gets their team assigned and no one leaves or joins. When you shuffle in this scenario, the algorithm swaps teams completely as it will come out to the same result as it was before, but it has to swap someone, so it swaps the first person and swaps everyone else accordingly.

I know why it happens.
In that case it should do nothing. It’s completely idiotic to swap whole teams. That’s the kind of edge case every programmer and tester should immediately think of.

They don’t even get the win conditions of their primary game mode right and bug free, what do you expect?
The shuffle and lobby scramble won’t do anything until they start considering some varying aspects of a game played by humans. Currently, it does not seem to count merc roasters players selected, as well as the fact that it does not count skill gaps between mercs for a same person. That’s the kind of things that could help the “team not playing objective” factor which in the vast majority of unbalance IS to blame.
In a full map scenario, if the server is fully crowded during the lobby, the scramble happen after the merc selection lock. So the scramble could at least account those factors and shuffle accordingly.
Just as a reminder, scramble is already supposed to select the best possible balance. So shuffling once more in game is just mixing the crap in even smaller bits and makes everything worse in most cases.
On top of that, since experienced players has still nowhere to gather for some pub games (aka community servers), we’re forced to go on min level 10 or even 20 with some significant part of the audience who can’t keep up. But in the meantime, this audience also might receive a good pub rating from their first level playing against newcomers. And this is totally normal, as it’s not supposed to care about the time spent in-game, just you’re last n game results/stats. So that’s a never ending story.
Shuffle is useless as scramble is the best option. Remove shuffle and just put an auto-balance instead. And also add parameters to scramble as well as the pub elo rating (winning on classic server can be way less demanding than losing on a min 10/20 server).
I never understood the point to shuffle. I’ve been stomped many, many, many times, or been in matches with shit teams and had to bust my ass carrying. I never voted for a shuffle because cry baby wants to be handed a win on a silver platter. Besides, it’s more rewarding to win when you’re the underdog in the end. And honestly, if it’s so bad I don’t want to play, then I just leave and quick-join another match.
These darn kids these days don’t know what it’s like to have to work hard for your victory!
I love dem shuffles right a the start of a match , when people see the lvls and immediately give up
lol.it is that first 30 secs in see lvls other side time to vote shuffle.or if your team is losing lets just spam the vote shuffle.
People like you are the reason I call a vote to shuffle when there’s 1 minute left to the game
