PC or XBOX?

(Tangax) #1

ok so for the last 3 years I have continuously been playing xbox call of duty ALOT and a few other games and have got good at controller fps,

Before this I was continuously playing Team Fortress 2 on steam and had around 60 days played on my scout and got a lot more fun out of it then xbox, shall i get this on PC as for old time TF2 sakes as it looks like this sort of game or keep with XBOX because thats what ive been playing for the last years and for achievements.

what do you think after what I wrote? and what will have more of a built up community? and is it a more PC dedicated game?

Thank You

Well console communities are huge now aren’t they?

If this game turns out to have similar feel to RTCW/ET i am sure there will be a very active and solid PC community. Which is worth more than quantity in my eyes.

controller discussion aside: the options in terms scripting, dedicated servers, etc. undeniably speak for PC. you as an ex-TF2-er can “recall” this…

EDIT: if your rig still is more-or-less up to date…

Doesn’t Steam have acheivements?

(RumRunner) #5

it does but most of those have the whole “making fun of xbox achievements” kinda vibe to them… and so are much better as they provide amusement.

Personally I’d rather the achievements were kept to the challenge mode, or only achievable in SP or coop mode. I wouldn’t ideally like an achievement to be distracting a player from the ultimate goal just to get another shiny sticker on their profile.

This actually maybe the first game I’ve purchased at full price for both the PC and 360. (Bought Bioshock and Mirror’s Edge off Steam when they hit rock bottom…sub $5…even though I had ample play time on both for 360).

Haven’t played ET in years but loved it when i did…

As pitiful as it sounds, I think achievements are the only reason Generations Y & Z play games. Get rid of achievements and gamers will equate to old people.

Achievements are not the way to go about measuring your willingness to play or skill in a game. Whenever someone starts revolving around the achievements of a game it’s obvious they play games for the chic pop cultural aspect and not because they appreciate the media and get any stimulation or enjoyment from it.

Every moment in the game should be an achievement. There are times something wild occurs that you haven’t seen before. Pavlov doesn’t ring a bell for it and write it down but you should still feel good about doing something on your own. A lot of cool unique stuff has happened to me in ET before that made it really an interesting experience. If you want, think of achievements like “THE MAN” telling you what to do.

I also hate when games in multiplayer have a team mate screwing around contributing nothing because they’re going for an achievement. I think TF2 players are quite familiar with this, but there are others.

never did much get the point of achievements myself they don’t really give you anything. so unless they’re amusing i tend to ignore them… one of the few that does these days it seems.

What now??

(crazybruinfan4) #11

i personally think that xbox is much more fun, however it all depends on what you like. i like it because its easier for me to talk to my friends and for me to use the controller. im just not a fan of the controls for the PC and i really hate using the mouse and keyboard

(Auzner) #12

Controllers take time to practice. But the mouse will always be more precise per hour spent practicing. I’ve yet to think of a counter for the socializing. When you sit and talk with people or have three others participating you’re not completely focused on the game play. But that’s a preference just like with controllers. Computer gaming wasn’t meant to be as casual since everyone is isolated to their own machine. If I get into voice chat conversations unrelated to the game I don’t play as well. I don’t really like socializing while gaming unless the game itself is designed to encourage that or has a lot of humor in it.

PC, because you can buy an extra full priced brand new game, or anything else that costs that much, and a $10 item.

I’ll play it on PC even if I’ll be the last PC gamer left on Earth. Death to consoles!@!!!

(Weapuh) #15

You won’t be

Seems PC and Consoles have equal communities anyways

(MrX) #16

U choose each platform for different things.I choose pc for dedis, more server choices, better perfomance, ventrillo and ofc keyboard and mouse the most precise and responsive hardware out there for fps

(LyndonL) #17

I choose PC over Console for exactly the same reason I don’t like Macs - I like configurability and the ability to do what I want. Plus KB and Mouse is my preferred control scheme. I suck at using controllers for FPS.

Not everyone has a degree in printed circuit board juggling and floppy drive taming. Most of my peers think my desktop is ancient because it’s not a laptop. “Do they even make those anymore??”

Xbox because everyone I know plays on LIVE.

360 for me. I’ve been a console gamer all the way back to the NES, and I don’t think that’ll change anytime soon.

As for achievements, I don’t even look at them a lot of the time. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy unlocking Avatar awards though.
