PC Gamers: What needs to be done to stop the population drop?
second straight day without any population drop and another minor increase yay.
Seems like a good time to fix the remaning bugs and release the DLC imo.
Fix bugs. Balance objectives, guns and body types. See it in effect, learn lessons.

Then release the DLC. It will give an influx of players, they should experience a more balanced Brink rather than all Carb-9.

Personally, I think the objective and gun balance is way more important than the DLC.

The drop this weekend was most likely just due the free black ops MP weekend

SDK is the only thing I can think of that will stem the drop in PC players. That and integrate some kind of automatic server dload of mods and maps. You know, the kind of thing that multi-platform games can’t support these days.

Perhaps a way to re-engage people would help?

You can see from the map above there is still plenty left to explore and develop. One potential way to reinvigorate Brink could be to have a choice of areas, 2 or 3 perhaps, and go to a public vote which to develop first.

Continuing to develop the narrative, scratching below the surface of the struggle between the two sides is another obvious winner (and a no brainer).

Invisible players = wtf
Sound bug = ffs
perfomance issues = oh my

The bugs fixing is way more important then the dlc btw

then after the bugs are fixed, balance issues and sdk

i’ll come back when the performance issues with ATI cards are solved, but that might be too late and the game is dead then. i checked the steam stats yesterday, it’s not looking good!

they messed up their launch for the PC version, they might be satisfied with their currently peaking 2000 players… but for brink to be a esports-title, the performance fixes and balance tweaks are (going to be) way too late.

FPS games need a steady stream of fresh content to survive beyond the first year. Plain and simple. That’s both console and PC. But I think console players are used to games not lasting more than a year if not less. That’s just the culture of console gaming. PC gaming used to benefit from a much more modular culture filled with a sense of community feedback and creation for its games. We PC gamers are fickle and quick to abandon games that don’t live up to what we’re used to in those terms. Yet, we continue to purchase and continue to hope.

Honestly, I blame companies like Epic that farm their engine out for cross-platform development. They’ve inadvertently kicked off the age of widespread cross-platform development that bridges the gap between console and PC. And because consoles are so much easier to develop for with their fixed hardware and larger more accessible player-base, it’s the console culture that I mentioned before that has steadily creeped in to the PC gaming world.

TL;DR: PC gaming as we once knew it is dying. The future of PC gaming is whatever the future of console gaming will be. Currently, that is looking like a lot less freedom for the community to innovate and a lot more non-free updates/content where games have a 1-year-planned-obsolescence shelf-life in order to sell annual sequels.

this, SDK would allow us to fix some of the issues with the game and add infinite amounts of content.

Anyway the more skilled player will nearly always win a firefight in Brink.
Unless one has a Carb 9 and the other doesn’t…

Movement and aiming needs to be slick.

As I described before, running around feels like there are bricks attached to your feet. This is big issue number 1 for me.

Issue number 2 is the aiming and shooting. The crosshair is too big. I don’t use ADS because it seems less accurate. The camera shakes wildly with each shot, especially with the powerful pistols. Shooting down enemies feels more like work than it is fun.

Fixing these two things are key.

Personally, I would like to disable the vignette effect as well as the depth of field because they make what would otherwise be a decent looking game, look like crap mixed with mud.

I agree with all of these. Gameplay is top priority, but I must admit the graphics were a total letdown. Even with everything maxed out it looks like a blurred mess.(Yes I have motion blur turned off) Graphics in the gameplay vids looked much more crisp.

 1. SDK
 2. The objectives wheel needs to go. It doesn’t fit on the PC. I don’t want 1 huge logo, I want every objective on my screen but I want them to be small.
