PC Gamers: What needs to be done to stop the population drop?

(Ashog) #61
  1. proper VoIP
  2. proper voicechats/vsays
  3. simple aftermatch chat
  4. full ETQW’s demo support
  5. enable showing of enemy names above cursor (when you are incapacitated or the enemy is incapacitated)
  6. proper ETQW’s server browser
  7. proper ETQW’s scoreboard: both teams + specs on 1 page
  8. proper end screen table: both teams + specs on 1 page, another page for awards
  9. introduce K/D ratio and kills count, also spree count, accuracy count, teamkill count, ect. - as it was in ETQW and allow to see them on the end screen (including the hover mode of the cursor over the fields of end screen to show your personal scores in all categories of awards)
  10. tweak heavy bodytype (increase health, a bit speed and/or weapon damage)
  11. Nerf Carb9 and Kross as almost everyone is using only them anyway
  12. reduce endless camping and spawncamping by rebalancing spawns and certain maps
  13. nerf damage for all weapons (except sniper rifles) to get rid of CoDish instakills with 2 shots in 0.2 ms
  14. at the moment one gets no information about the direction where the shots come from (I guess hence the public roar about the invisible enemies) - please implement the same visual damage awareness as in ETQW. Also when you are incapacitated or gibbed, the camera doesn’t turn to the person who killed you, which is VERY frustrating
  15. grenades are a joke now - tweak grenade damage (frag + molotov) and physics (ETQW/W:ET style was perfect, but to avoid spam you have successfully implemented the cooldown so I am sure that tweaking damage will be ok). Another solution would be to make the grenade splash area and damage upgrade as general abilities for every class, not only for soldier. I personally like to throw the grenades and want to do it with every class. Absense of grenades is why I don’t play TF2 and will never touch it. So don’t go this way by nerfing tactical grenade fun.
  16. Provide separate weaponbank for holding grenades and being able to throw with mouse1 as in all your previous games
  17. separate revive syringe and interact (buffs, etc) by making up a syringe weaponbank and use of the syringe by mouse1 as in all your previous games
  18. enable printing of obituaries and all normal game log into console log, as now only chats are going in there. If one misses an obituary in the HUD area (disappears very fast) there is no way to check who killed you and how from the console
  19. allow to change characters and bodytypes in the command posts. Noone wants to switch to key classes anymore because their characters may be missing some certain class specific abilities…
  20. decrease medicine manual return time on container city
  21. remove automatic pulling of character from/to other characters (esp. incapacitated) generally. Destroy it in any of its metaforms!
  22. fix the font garbage problem
  23. remove sound smudging and visual blurring effects when being hit

The most irritating for me are issues 3, 5, 14 and 15.
I am sure that I could remember 10 more so I’ll be back.

2300 -> 2000 now…

shame because im starting to enjoy the game at times :expressionless:

ps. I wonder if the stats site for the PC will come before the game is truly dead :frowning:

it is not a question of a bug fix, sincerely there are no heavy bugs in this game and there is no single key point to modify that will change the general layout

what does not work properly is the whole project of the game itself:
1)the poor technical side and 2) the gameplay given by stopwatch in fun server

the sum of these two aspects, added to initial lag/fps problems, created a vicious circle and players dropped

i m still wondering how SD could persist with stopswatch as THE ONLY gamemode, well knowing that is asimmetrical, require teamplay and coordination, two things that cannot be found in a normal fun server…i thoght they learn the lesson from ETQW, but nothing

i sincerely suggesto to SD to add a new gamemod toghert with a new map design too, but this means doing a new game, so there is nothing to do

a technical step over cannot be done because this game is the expression of IDTECH4 limits + SD it staff limits…yes, because this is the truth: SD are modders, not developers, this is the explanation why the game has such a horrible tech feeling
so nothing to do, game is over, and maybe SD is over, the need to be included in larger develop team

Brink issues aside, I think it’s a bit unfair to call Splash Damage ‘modders’. They’ve come a long way from the modding background and have built some great games.

Maybe it is a case of biting off more than they can chew doing a three platform development on Brink but that’s an understandable decision when ET:QW was a mess on PS3 and X360, being developed externally.

I wouldn’t say they’ve hit AAA status just yet, but the team certainly are an established developer.

All my opinion, of course.

I’m waiting for crossfire support so I can play it at native resolution!

Based on what? Their only successfull game was ET. Which was basicly a mod from RTCW. ET:QW had good ratings but didn’t really live very long and BRINK seems to be doing even worse.

(legend123) #67

I only played RTCW, W:ET and Brink.
But seriously Brink is going down faster than Quakewars?

(Ashog) #68

three years isn’t long on your opinion?

(Kalbuth) #69

Nah,WET hardcore abhorred ET:QW and can’t stand it being liked by more than 10 people, a vehicle game can’t be good in their PoV, so anyone stating otherwise is in denial.

(gooey79) #70

Haven’t they developed 2 full games now? Since when was the title ‘developer’ only given to organisations who’s games ‘live very long’?

(Seiniyta) #71

I woudln’t mind seeing for example the Be more Objective and Parkour challenges as 1vs1 or TDM maps

(TwwIX) #72

The “one fully speced class per character” crap needs to go. Players should have the option to re-arrange their abilities whenever they choose to without any penalties. If i wanted to level up 4 different characters at once, i’d be playing MMO’s.

(crazyfoolish) #73

I agree a 2v2 would be fun also. Although the player base is tiny as it is…

(trigg3r) #74

well something has to be done for sure
I’ve always been optimistic about brink but damn numbers are going down fast. 2000 peak on a weekend just 3 weeks after realease is really bad. I never expected it to have big number like TF2 or COD but i certainly expected better than this. :frowning:

(DarkangelUK) #75

At the rate players are dropping, I honestly don’t think there’s anything that can be done that will be Brink’s saving grace within a decent time frame. This is a severe learning opportunity for SD, anything done from here on out will hopefully keep the few players that are still playing within the fray, but bringing people back will take an effort that I think is beyond their scope for the moment, and certainly beyond any investment Bethesda will deliver.

I also hope Bethesda learn from this, and in future take a less hands on approach to a game they should solely stay a publisher for, and let the dev team develop as they see fit.

(Je T´aime) #76

If the game its sold for a much lower price maybe it have a chance, no one will buy it for 50 euros as buggy as it is.
I was playng with a friend that just bought brink and we went to a multiplayer server, the enemy team had a invisible dude knifing him several times he lost the sound and lol i felt bad for his 50 euros.

(trigg3r) #77

today was the first time since it was released that the numbers of players didn’t drop from the day before, there was a small increase actually

(legend123) #78

sounds about right.

but I also think there is nothing that can be done at this point.
itll never go above 3000 is my guess.

(Swolenator) #79

To be fair you can’t exactly compare steam black ops multiplayer players count to brink this weekend because black ops has a free trial going on through steam thursday to i think sunday so the numbers may be somewhat inflated. That being said the singleplayer does have more peak players.

But who knows the dlc will boost it for a couple days since luckily it is free. Medal of honor had dlc come out that either noone bought or if they did noone played it or even hosted servers after like a day or two so atleast this dlc is free but 2 maps may not be enough. And who knows which objectives the maps will include lets just hope they are not just 2 objectives and short really need more content. It wouldn’t surprise me if people setup servers for only the new maps when it first comes out played them a lot and wore them out fast. I hope they don’t start making paid dlc for maps because that will spread the players around even more between those willing and not willing to pay. By this point almost everyone has unlocked everything and many people have many separate characters fully leveled already. I see more use of the voip then before but still not a lot. Hopefully the changes will help gameplay add more variety.

This (player drop off fast) seems to be happening with a couple of games recently and I think a big thing is bugs and incompleteness of games at release that really turns people off and they don’t wait around for fixes. As a result some games drop prices dramatically in the first month or so just to get a player base. I have seen a game drop something like 50% in price in like a months time… It is a shame that more games are going this way it seems to be a bad trend of highly anticipated games coming out with bugs and glitches at the $50-60$ range on release day and also having the player base dwindle within the first month or so and then sadly they seem to come out with dlc that is pay (I know atleast brink first dlc is free) on top of the issues already and asking for more money for more content when users were already mad with the content they had.

(trigg3r) #80

second straight day without any population drop and another minor increase yay.
Seems like a good time to fix the remaning bugs and release the DLC imo.
