pb_power and pb_plist

(Dawg) #1

Has anyone else noticed that these commands do not always provide complete result sets? Has anyone figured out why or a way to overcome this?

If not, let me send forth a plea to SD/PB/shrub/bani that these commands be investigated for potential bugs in failing to return or display a complete result set!

From my observations…

If you are playing on a large server (say 40 slots), it never provides a complete listing of the players. If you do repeated pb_power or pb_plist commands the list actually decreases in size - to the point where the list might contain only 4 or 5 names! If you are attempting to get a slot # on a particular knucklehead, this can be very frustrating.

It appears, though I have not organized an experiment to test this theory, that different people do not get the same lists either. I suspect that it has to do with the PB code, but I really do not know. I was hoping that someone might have a clue.

havent tried it on servers of >20 people.

I think it’s slow putting the list to the screen with the echoes. The one in console just pops
up but those echoes take another 20 seconds. It seems that the longer you wait between
issues, the more complete the list is. So maybe it is the echoes.

\pb_msgprefix [skipnotify] maybe?

edit: Shit, nope. poor code, too.

If you skipnotify, it works for everything but the playerlists.
In fact it makes it uglier by adding the actual [skipnotify] to the string!!

And we trust these guys to provide “security” ?? :bump:
(that’s a big j/k for the sarcasm-challenged)

edit2: more info

The list that makes it to the game screen is the complete one.
The stuff in the console is truncated, and if you stuff enough power or plist into it
and backlog it to death, you can get zero, that is, no names on the console.
\pb_logtofile is useless. It’s more truncated than the console output.

So yes, a plea to EB is definitely in order.

I can’t believe that 3 years on, this bug is still there. I still struggle with only getting partial lists. And like dawg says repeating the command usually makes the list even shorter.

Does anybody know a sure fire way to get the whole list?

BTW if you want a players slot, just add 1 to the slot number from the /players output.

Whatever the case, you’re asking the wrong folks.
