1st § -> ETXreaL fix the engine exploits etc. It will for sure have some anti-cheat stuff, so it will be the most safe incarnation of ET so far. And making a new wallhack/aimbot with a no more updated anti-cheat software, you’ll be blocked only if you find the thing on a website from Internet Archive… When I was admin I had to manually ban some wallhackers.

2nd § -> IMO I would never as an admin disable it. I did when PB kept kicking everyone on NQ (1.2.3 or 1.2.5, I don’t remember), and letting my server like this has been painful.

So, finally, by writing these words, maybe a solution for your: Browse SL/TB, and disable PB in filters.

Anti-Cheat programms might help in detecting exploits, but they never do attend to patch them. ETXreal, i fear, is going nowhere with cheat protection. Cheatprotection is a good thing to have, but at the cost of a shrinking playerbase, a no-go. I would in all cases deal cheatprotection, against the shrinking playerbase problem.

PB should offer their latest PB version for download, so that one can manually install these packages at least.

A no-go; Maybe it’s what EB thought. Well, some games like Duke Nukem 3D or Blood run without anti-cheat and without cheaters :slight_smile:

lol this is no conspiracy (at least not from side of EB). They just want the money, and since no money flows, they dropped. But the way how they dropped their support really sucks, with no backup plan and no love at all. Pure money makers if you ask me.

I am sure to this moment they have the capacity on their servers to support the 3 MegaByte PB update…

edit: and even if they would NOT have the capacity, because they are also concerned about network traffic, they simply could make one last official release, and hand it out to splash damage to mirror it.

They dropped the support of 2 old games and one more recent, all have their source code released, they’re no more updated by their publisher, and maybe the contract between publisher and EB has ended. EB had to keep up to date servers and clients from 3 games, one old, one old and free, one more recent but a bit old now. So maybe it’s not only a question of money… Because people would pay them to keep the support.

Noone expects them to update their cheat protection with the most recent stuff, but when there are servers requiring you to have a PB updated client, then why do they do this.

I have also no clue how it works at the moment, with all this servers who have their PB turned on. Does PB still kick for (known/detected) hax now ? I mean, they dropped streaming support, so PBBans probably not work, but i guess an automatic kick or ban from the local server is initiated. How does this work at the moment ? Why have many servers still PB turned on ?

Yes, the PB itself should detect and act on what it already has in its hacks database, but not new hacks?

On my clanserver (ETW-Funzone.eu:27960) PB is still turned on, because of some reasons:
ETAdminMod (pbguid based)
Tons of free hacks which are busted even by the outdated PB (tbh: the last years each PB update was a pain in the ass, I commited at least 200 hacks to EB years ago [some of them private type hacks] and my tests on a local server (homeserver) worked in the most cases.
IMO the updates where only to fit the new structures came with WinVista.

But if a new player, without etkey,is connecting to our clanserver at least the information what to do now is displayed.
But also new hacks, based on md5 checks, will be bashed when the checksum is listed in the pb config.

Ok then, PB or EB should really hand out one last release with their latest database. It sucks that there is nothing official out there to this date. Really poorly done EB, gratz!!!

No, no new hacks. They dropped support, noone is expecting them to continue their support. But bytes are bytes, they are out there, at EB, or possibly already completely deleted. These bytes can be downloaded and installed, voila !! At least latest PB and save against couple of hacks and i can also join servers with PB turned on, which to this date require me to update my PB client with the lastest version.

i tried to connect with a new installed Wolf ET and first got the cd_key error. then i created one with etkey.org´s installer. but i still get an error message “service abnormality” any suggestions?

this bothers me cause i just decided to finish some maps i havent worked on for over a year now.

i used the complete installer and it didnt work. tried at least 10 times.
i use windows 7 could this be a problem?

and the automatic key generator on etkey.org doesnt work at the moment…

ETKey has 39 digits for last.
Which are generated randomlly.
The question is on what they are hashed???
Base64 or md5??
