Patch RtCW to make it like ET

(Tsop) #1

I have seen threads pop up asking if vanilla RtCW is worth purchasing if they love ET (which everyone does) and although I tell them that they should, I think they could be mislead.

Anyways, I would like to see a patch added to RtCW to make it like ET. This would pay for itself with increased sales provided the retail price gets dropped to $20. You see, people are already asking for more maps and although I personally am satisfied with the two campaigns, it would be more fun to apply this gameplay to the RtCW franchise.

The coding for prone, covert ops, new weapons, and everything else that is ET is all done so adding that into RtCW would be the simple part. The hard part is how to handle the maps. I would like to see them grouped into 3 campaings with each featuring 3 maps (exactly like ET is set up). A majority of the maps could remain pretty much as is with some cosmetic changes (like new construction areas and etc.). I would even like to see mp_destruction have a tank that must be guided through the alley and then some docs stolen or a more balanced mp_tram which can be achieved through a patch.

I know if I played Enemy Territory and knew there was a $20 game available with more of the Enemy Territory goodness, I would be inclined to buy it for sure and I know about 5,000 others right now who probably feel the same.

Basically, this idea has to be run by Jonathan Moses who is in charge of ET for Activision but I doubt the idea would ever materialize. I just hate the fact that I know RtCW could breath new life again with a somewhat simple patch AND the developers could recoup some of the money spent on Enemy Territory as well as make a nice profit from a ‘dead’ game.

One other simple suggestion to assure this to be a success is to integrate voice comm into RtCW (and not ET until later to encourage RtCW sales).

Regardless, SD did a great job and executed some GREAT ideas for this game. A lot of those ideas should be incorperated into RtCW since the ideas are already completed (more or less). I love Enemy Territory’s gameplay and so does eveyone else! I have NEVER seen a game released with as little complaining about gameplay, bugs, and whatever as this one. SD did one HELLUVA job and I’d like to be able to play more ET type games.

Or how bout they make a fresh Wolf2 or ET2 or whatever based on the D3 engine? Then they can charge $50 and people will love it! Some of the ET’ers will even feel like they should buy it since they got ET for free… what a strategy!

Under no circumstances i want to have a patch, that change RtCW MP to a ET-like thing. I dislike most of the changes in ET.
Completely overload HUD.
Terrible Sounds (Weapons and Voices)
Lack of speed in gameplay

If such a patch will ever come out, i will only play on servers with a lesser version, or stop playing RtCW.

ET is IMHO a neat try, but not a “sequel” to the classic RtCW MP. Its a complete new MP game, with its own community in the future.

Sigh… Doesn’t even sound like you’ve played the full version. Most of your complaints have been addressed much to the liking of the community. Oh well, your loss…

Anyways, let’s just that tomorrow you wake up and see the following announcement:

An update from Activision:

GOOD NEWS! We have decided to add campiagn mode to RtCW. All your favorite modes from the original will remain “as is” but a new campaign mode will be added where you will be able to choose from the new classes, gain experience points, use new weapons, and all the other goodness that was thrown into ET. This new mode will be made available through a downlaodable patch.

Also, the new mode will be available accross three campaigns featuring 3 maps each! A lot of these maps will be mostly unchanged (like depot and beach) but a few will have added objectives or have minor changes to accomodate the new gameplay mode.

Also, we have decided to lower the retail price of RtCW to $20. Now you can pick up the RtCW GotY version that has all the multiplayer goodness of RtCW that a lot of people have discovered from Enemy Territory AND a great single player campaign for a low price of $20.

So if you come accross that, you are actually going to be upset? I don’t know if you noticed, but this morning there were more servers running RtCW than there were players. Don’t make excuses for that either. There’s a simple reason why that is… THE GAME HASN’T BEEN UPDATED FOREVER! People lose interest playing the same thing over and over again with no new weapons and no new gameplay…

Of course, one day maybe the RtCW maps will be converted for ET but that won’t work that well either. The maps will be converted by players and won’t be grouped into campiagns. Also, it would require that people download the maps on their own (in other words, full servrs would empty for awhile when a “custom” map comes on until people catch on). It takes a lot to get people to download “custom” maps.

Regardless, it won’t happen most likely but it would be successful. I suppose most of the 1,000 people playing RtCW still wouldn’t like the change simply because they have been playing the same game, maps, modes, and classes the same way for about a year now… That’s why only around 1,000 people are playing this morning.
