Patch Coming Monday for PC

From their blog

“PC”

A game update for the PC version of Brink is in final testing and we’re planning to release it early next week. This update contains a host of fixes and improvements including the following:

We’ve identified the cause of sound dropping out on certain maps when playing networked games for a prolonged amount of time. This will no longer occur.

Graphical performance has been improved, especially when using Ambient Occlusion. We’ve worked closely with both AMD and NVIDIA, and you should see performance and stability improvements in future driver revisions from both parties.

The server browser is tweaked in this update, as well; among other things, a new filter allows you to display only servers with a certain number of players on them, and full servers will no longer be filtered out completely.

There are some smaller fixes for minor issues including your character’s voice occasionally resetting when deleting another character, and a memory leak when alt-tabbing out of the game.

Finally, the dedicated server is set to get an update at the same time as the main game, which will result in improved CPU performance. We’ve protected certain cvars that previously allowed server admins to accidentally break objectives involving NPCs.

The full changelog will be released alongside the update, so keep an eye out for that."

AWESOME!!!

Can’t wahaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiit.

Great! Finally… I hope this helps ATI users.
Also I hope i could finally climb over the 30fps minimum in security tower (nvidia).

:stroggtapir:

I always avoid security tower due to fps, but I have an ATI. I think its due to the depth of field effect combined with long viewing distances.

This is great news, but you’ve missed two things (highlighted above); nowhere does it say that the patch is for certain coming out on Monday and it’s entirely possible that it may slip due to some unexpected reason.

Not trying to rain on the parade, just keep our expectations in check so we don’t get too disappointed.

(Emke) #6

So that means Catalyst 11.5a RC4 will also be released next week

(Sheza) #7

What is this doing in tech support.

(eMwegA) #8

Yes. A Patch that will hopefully fixes a lot of the technical problems discussed here is absolutely missplaced

Just kidding. Hope I can start to play next week…

Nothing mentioned about invisible players or spectators influencing gameplay

(JetSet) #11

Woo! I wonder if any of this has already been implemented. Last couple of nights I have been averaging 60 FPS with my HD6950. There were still some major spikes and drops but it was running smoother.

(MoxVoid) #12

Hate to rain on your parade, but I find it hard to be optimistic about any patch considering that things have gotten progressively worse (at least on my machine) and the recently recommended drivers cause the game to not even open for me now.

So I find it hard to be gun ho about this. But who knows…

(Instant_Soldier) #13

What? It should be a sticky in all Brink forums. Good news!

(MaxiM) #14

Neither ATI 11.2 or the custom driver helped me in the long run, so I really, really hope this patch will will sort things out.

(Armysblood) #15

All good news

I never use Ambient Occlusion, so meh if its a 10 or 15 fps gain its still bad, we pc gamers need at least 60 constant fps.

We need? The are lots of folks who happily play with ~30FPS. I’m not one of them, but I pay hard for the privilege.

(TwwIX) #18

That is a hot fix. It’s hardly a patch.

(Xiphos) #19

Yeah I’m fine with 30 FPS, since I can’t actually tell much of a difference. Anything below 30 is balls but 30+ is absolutely fine for me.

(ruskor) #20

Hope my 100% cpu usage is gone with the patch, i have a 3ghz duo now OC’d to 3,6ghz and still 100% -_-
