Panic Hopping

(wolvie) #1

What do you think of the shooting strategy of OMG HE’S SHOOTING ME!!! JUMP JUMP JUMP JUMP WALL JUMP WALL JUMP JUMP JUMP JUMP JUMP!!! I find it fucking annoying.

(gg2ez) #2

I find it a legitimate way of dodging shots and increasing survivability. Git gud.

(Yes) #3

It makes it harder for them if they are trying to fight back, they have to move their crosshair a lot more to land consistent shots. It also makes their movement a lot more predictable, since they can’t change direction midair.

(wolvie) #4

It just kinda stupid. It’s not how you play an FPS…

(wolvie) #5

I also have a relatively low sensitivity 17.0455 inches/360.

(Mr-Penguin) #6

It’s a viable tactic in this particular FPS though.

(gg2ez) #7

Well what do you suggest? Would you like your enemies to just stand there and let you shoot them?

Don’t sook about it, we can jump for a reason.

(fancypants) #8

If you are a low hp merc fighting vs a aura or proxy with a reinburg shotgun, you better jump or you´re dead.

(XavienX) #9

It depends, people bunnyhop everywhere when they KNOW they are going to die if they don’t. But they only don’t if they have enough health to 1v1 a person to see who gets defeated first. When people use shotguns, bunnyhopping is a great strategy once mastered.

(Jostabeere) #10

Panichopping isn’t a strategy same as “spraying” or “burst-firing” isn’t a strategy. It’s poor and only relies on luck and not skill.
But people will make strategies out of everything to justify things.

I wouldn’t like to see the bunny hopping stopped, but some sort of increased bloom on the shots would be good?

Maybe the game could check to see if they are long-jumps or wall-jumps and not penalise those.

Only the panic-y bunnies would be affected…

(CCP115) #12

I agree, it’s too effective for shotgun users.

But then that’s where the usefulness ends. If you use anything that isn’t a shotgun (or a sniper for some stupid game logic) keep your feet on the ground.

As you get better, you track better, so hitting walljumping targets is easy. Ignore these guys, the only solution is to suck up your salt, and start aiming.

Trust me, I use to rage about these things on the forum as well. It got better.

Well it’s not even bunnyhopping. It’s just jumping arund like a chicken.
The spread and crosshair sway MUST be much, much higher if someone jumps. Not for realism, but for a better gameplay-mechanic.
@CCP115 Just because you or me get better at this doesn’t change the poorness of this mechanic.

(Mercypls) #14

i find it funny when they jump around, makes it more easy for me to hit them. Sometimes i say to myself “what was your gameplan to hop?” then i realize im playing Fragger vs a proxy :3

(Glot) #15
  1. jumpers do get a spread increase (very large increase)

  2. but i would personally like to see a stamina bar for several consecutive jumps (mb without visualisation, but with a more loud breath and heartbeat) - so that you can spam 3-4 jumps but then jumps get less height, and have more delay between them

(srswizard) #16

It’s fine, L2P.

I find it a strategy, hell ive been doing this since i can remember. If we are talking about how someone gets the drop on you or your low health and you bunny hop to cover like a frog on crack, not just in this game either.

And i know its not just me too, i could point you to 1000’s of videos of famous/really good players that do this aswell.

and ill do it on occasion in face to face encounters if the mechanic is viable in the right situation.

(kopyright) #18

Once you have seen a Rhino bunnyhopping you have seen it all.

(Faraleth) #19

Panic-hopping, sure… if they are just bouncing around, but a lot of people who do it - I know I do - aren’t actually “panic” hopping. There are a LOT of awesome jump points on the maps and I will often sprint and jump behind someone to shoot them in the back and/or melee them depending on their health pool. I have to admit, it’s also hilariously useful for dodging all the people playing melee Phantom right now… it confuses the hell outta them. ^.^

My main gripe with this entire thread is that the people that don’t know how to deal with it, call it “panic hopping”. It doesn’t even involve panic. People shoot in my direction, I’ll long jump at them and SMG them in the face. It’s that simple, if you can’t even kill an opponent that’s literally charging at you - there’s your problem.

Wall jumping is another thing. It’s a perfectly fine and balanced mechanic, it’s easy to predict where the enemy will end up and is easily counterable with AoE and even guns if you’re good enough - however, actually aiming at the enemy whilst walljumping is pretty hard and takes a LOT of skill to get used to (I’m still trying).

But what are you all surprised for? It clearly stated in the DB training video that it wasn’t going to be easy to do most things. Just practice. Tracking an enemy is a skill that requires practice. Keyword: practice.

Don’t get me wrong, I am destructively bad at tracking walljumpers but at least I’m putting in my time to do what I can instead of complaining about something as simple as a jump.

So burst fire rifles are now excluded from any strategic viewpoint? OK, seems legit. (Note sarcasm).
