Paid DLC to fracture community will destroy BRINK.

(IncubusDragon) #21

There’s a difference between logic and false logic.

If you’ve got a business plan that turns out to be a disaster from the outset, you have two choices:

1. Give up - pull the plug = no patches, updates or DLC of any sort.

2. Stick to the plan - take a chance that the business plan will work in the long term = patches, updates & DLC until budget runs out or business plan turns into a success.

We might not agree with the business plan, but it at least means we have much needed improvements and added content to the game (which still has the potential to be a classic).

(Xirvus.rei) #22

Did I even mention anything about my ability to afford DLC? Did I even imply that I can most probably afford much more than you?

Do you even have a brain?

Sadly, it’s probably Bethesda calling the shots, especially with regards to matters such as pricing on DLC and such. Let’s just hope by making an impact here, SD will be able to do something about it, even if Bethesda clearly isn’t thinking straight.

ehmmm, what about 3. Change strategy ?

(IncubusDragon) #24

You can only change strategy if you devised a backup “plan B” prior to release. Unfortunately, Bethesda don’t do that level of strategising.

Now that means people get kicked from servers for not having the DLC and are at a disadvantage when playing with people who have it for not being able to use the new abilities.

How many of these Paid (FREE for 2 weeks) DLC threads are gonna pop up? No matter what you’all do, the game is gonna keep getting played, and new DLC is gonna come out for it. You can’t stop the wheel of change, brother. The train is gonna keep chugging along. You can stand on the tracks all you want, but eventually, you are just gonna have to move aside.

Chug Chug!

I have never wanted to face palm so much until I read some of your posts. Thank you for that.

but +1 for staying happy and positive. I wish I could manage that.

pretty good alliteration actually.

who cares everyone that currently owns the game and will be here for any day of those two weeks will be downloading the crap outta it. im not seeing the problem.

im mega poor, and i think i could manage to scrape up some nickels and dimes and make the 1-5 dollar cost.

why do people protest 5 fricken dollars. its like the difference between two really crappy 12 % alcohol drinks or a dlc, sorry the dlc would probably outlast my hangover.

(Xirvus.rei) #29

Heh. So it seems like no-one at Bethesda / Splash Damage want to wake up and smell reality.

If this is how you treat your games, and your game companies Bethesda, then you, dare I say it: deserve to sink, fail, and fall into mediocrity and bankruptcy.

My money is going elsewhere. And most likely as will everybody else’s money, who have been burned by this debacle.

Not quite how I’d put it, but I agree with the sentiment. On the other hand I empathise with the frustration, exasperation and disappointment vented.

failed attempt at an insult, if you can afford it and you make sooo much money why do you care? why wouldnt you just pay for it if you missed two weeks??

you are on the gravy boat of overly intelligent people i will bow down to your capital mega brain

(wolfnemesis75) #32

At the very least, the DLC is free for two weeks for those interested in it. Let the ones who need to worry about fractures (doctors) do their thing.

(pinion120) #33

You are correct OP. But greed will win out and this change will happen.

(Kurushi) #34

I agree that it will split the community but completely disagree it punishes current players. It’s quite the opposite, but that doesn’t make it right.

I also disagree that Valve reward current players, that’s not really true. Valve are pretty slack when adding ‘real’ content like maps, yet they focus on adding pointless cosmetics and imba community weapons. Valve have gradually **** on their existing users more than anything. Okay updates are free but not really what existing users want, it’s all been purely in their own interest of late.

Still, your main point stands, splitting community with maps is just kicking a game while it’s down

TF2 is Valve’s testground. All their new features are tested there first and if they work get implemented into other games. There are a billion TF2 players and while they complain like crazy they also stick around and test out the features.

And now that it’s free 2 play that’s just more test subjects for them to experiment on.

I think the collective term for a group or gathering of gamers should be a Squabble, or perhaps a Bicker, but community? Nah, no such beast.

I’m happy to play alongside anyone, as long as they’re team players, mature and aren’t inclined to shrieking.

(esomonk) #37

If they implement this the only way to save Brink is to turn it into a free to play system.

(wolfnemesis75) #38

^Not a fair comparison to compare a new IP(Brink) to a game with a 2 or 3 after its name, like TF2. MW2. Etc.

(Brink Lags) #39

Yeah, this DLC will split & destroy this wildly popular and thriving player base!

(taodemon) #40

I´m not sure if this has been suggested, but this would probably be the best way for anyone (not just SD for Brink) to do DLC since they are here to stay.

Release additional maps as part of general game updates. Keep all the additional levels, items, gear as DLC. This keeps people from being split up and also serves to advertise your DLC content to those who don´t have it (getting owned by overpowered DLC abilities etc). You might have to beef up the items and gear included but it would be the best way of keeping your gaming community together while releasing DLC.
