ive played quakeworld, quake 3, quakelive, rtcw, etqw, unreal, etc

the quake games are more on the extreme side,
rtcw and etqw are fast paced games (they have twitch shots, etc)

the game by blizzard is fast paced in the sense that it has a arcade style to it, if you see some of the classes they defiantly have a fast pace to them, especially the class that can jolt forward and the hook class

playing quakeworld sped up then going back to quakelive it feels like im playing a slow arse game

Fast-paced is so ambiguous. Raven Shield matches can take a while but their outcomes are often resolved in conflicts that last a fraction of a second.

Chess can be won by a single move of a piece on the board, doesn’t make it fast paced… just saying :slight_smile:

My first impressions are that I like the crosshair, number of and variety of abilities, verticality and movement mechanics that promote verticality, map layouts allowing for many flanking opportunities and many angles at chokepoint.

I dislike the art style and perspective hud.

Might add some more thoughts after I’ve watched more than the first 5 minutes, I’m still interested to see if there are any gamemodes that take my fancy.

Mentioned on Nexon forums (shock horror I started posting there!) but Overwatch has their merc selection screen separated by class type which DB should have done from the beginning.

There are classes, you know fine well there are classes, help up and a slow as hell disarm and plant don’t suddenly remove the fact that the mercs have classes and class abilities.

Oh good, they did add FOV slider… cause I remember someone telling me they decided to not allow FOV slider.

I liked the “Play of the Game” Feature :slight_smile:
Dislike The Narrow street ,Kind of block the passage between payload and the walls at some point …DB is >.
DB got EV rolling/acces/space better
DB art is much better
Their force will be in their mercs movements and abilities I guest

They are completely different games, I’ve watched most of Ellohimes stream today and even considering he didn’t play the most ‘FPS’ style mercs Overwatch leans way more on MOBA elements whereas DB leans way more towards the FPS genre. Anyone who says otherwise after seeing these 2 hours of gameplay is just silly.

That said, let’s be real here, 95% of the DB players(especially the casual community) is going to at-least try Overwatch. In the end it’s Blizzard and they know how to make decent games. But from what I’ve seen Overwatch won’t fill the niche that DB falls in, and when it comes to core gameplay I think I will favor DB a lot more. The only thing that really makes me consider actively playing Overwatch will be if DB’s playerbase gets too small and to ‘un-competitive’(playing the same teams over and over and over gets really boring), which is the same reason why I stopped actively playing W:ET as you were never meeting new players anymore. Overwatch has Blizzard behind it which regardless of it being a good game or not will mean it will get funded like ****, especially when it comes to the marketing/esports budget.

If people think that Overwatch is going to be the savior that they wanted DB to be then they’re gonna be sorely disappointed. Overwatch will do well and it does look like fun, but not in the style that old ET crowd are wanting. Indeed Blizzard seems to have put their full might behind the game, where as DB seems like a Google labs project to see if it’ll do well before committing proper resources to it.

More like hectic paced. Looks super fun. I can’t wait.
The likely large player base will make for a great competitive environment. Tons of teams of all skill levels. It will very likely be an “eSports” game. There will more than likely be money tournaments and LAN events. Its the only hope for FPS beyond CS atm imho!

I don’t think anyone thinks that. I think it will be much more competitive and successful by magnitudes though. For me personally, I’d rather play Quake or UT with a really healthy scene than either. TF2 is also very enjoyable but it doesn’t have matchmaking yet or I would be playing it still.

What I really want from DB are community servers. So people can play with the same players on a daily basis. The player base is too small to support matchmaking, so it may as well take the opportunity to give players a chance to call a few servers “home”.

That would give new players a chance to progress to a higher skilled server. Sort of like the old days or maybe that was just me.

I can’t blame you for thinking this.

Phoenix, Sparks, Sawbonez, Aura belong to the Medic class.
Skyhammer, Kira, Arty, Stoker belong to the Fire Support (Fieldops) class.
Proxy, Fletcher, Bushwacker, Turtle are Engineers.

Other than that, there’s no rhyme or reason. “Assault” includes Rhino, Fragger, and Nader. They don’t have much in common. And when I think of assault, “Rhino” doesn’t jump to my mind.
“Recon” mercs are Vasili, Red Eye, Phantom. Phantom feels more like an assault class, it can only be good at scouting if you use mic a lot. Red Eye and Vasili are snipers, only Vasili has a good scouting ability. IR Goggles alert enemies to your presence. Vasili is the only widely used “recon” merc, and the only that often makes a difference in a match.

I think RedEye’s IR is a more reliable wallhack. You can spot the entire enemy team leaving spawn! - then retreat - engage with team - and keep spotting enemies.
