Overwatch - MOBA FPS by Blizzard
Just finished watching all the Blizcom video .
There seem to have no specific class objective.
What kind of Objectives will they bring …Will it be team objective and never individual one ??Like DB anyone can do objectives
They are Heroes role not real Class .12 Heroes for now and many more to come .
Very Similar game to DB and with some same questions SD Devs had to face.
I didn’t see any Tools or mechanic to repair ,arm or activate in this .
I don’t know if a same hero could be on both teams ? like a Reaper in off and a Reaper in def .
They still very early in development and they thinking of many things ,until its not fully done ,Hard to say vs DB how it will be .
I like the Forward spawn idea by an teleport and a mobile one !!
Anyway despite all ,I’m more confident with DB to deliver a Better Game if SD stay on the improving the game/introducing cool stuff to the game Track.
I really See an Direct/Serious competitor tho
From the vid it looks like a TF2 TDM clone with moba-style chars, some interesting ones at that though. The amount of apparently unavoidable one-shot auto-kill abilities I saw (specials I assume) would put me off. Would be nice to see some these more crazy chars in DB - Symmetra for instance, but maybe a bit too futuristic.
Note none of the targets were moving. I could do the same with a soldier in DB if no one moved. In some of the videos, the grenades thrown did not insta kill if they weren’t close to the center of the explosion.
Right now I see Widow being extremely strong but hard to tell without actually playing.
Oh don’t worry, SD will take care of that for you. Haha.:stroggtapir:

With the amount of shields, tank classes, and high mobility and heals (even mercy can AOE revive as her ultimate), there is plenty of counterplay to widow available. Some characters seem like they can tank a couple shots from her sniper as well since the tank classes take 50% less damage. She seems like mainly a counter to the high offensive low hp characters.
I wonder what SD’s real thoughts were when they first saw this and heard about it? Did they go
a)“not worried, not in our genre”
b)“Lame, ours is better”
c)“oh s**t”
d)“its not too distant from our ideas, shows we are heading in the right direction for fps.”
or
e) other.
In all seriousness I would be interested in SDs reaction. Personally I went (d).
I think we kind of like it. We have a lot of fans of Blizzard games here at SD and it looks interesting. At the same time it looks different enough to Dirty Bomb to appeal to a different kind of audience, so I’m sure we’ll exist peacefully along side each other
If anything I think Overwatch existing might actually help DB.
Yeah you can see it as Blizzard increasing the size of the shooter pie rather than claiming a portion of what’s currently there.
That said, in gameplay elements and first impression Overwatch is making DB look a bit lacklustre. Which isn’t a bad thing as it means that you can get away with doing more interesting things in DB without the worry of alienating people. Your new fans will be much more acquanted with radical abilities.

Great to see that killcharges will be implemented. No matter what game, that stuff is addictive as hell.
-Giving defenders a headstart is really interesting.
-Ultimate abilities are charged both by doing as well as taking damage (IE a battlesense bar)
-Dynamic charging is way more meaningful than flat cooldowns.
-Having all players activate their ultimates at the same time is not.
-DB sorely lacks short-range tanks
- And proper support classes
- Their London map is just a blatant taunt towards Dirty Bomb
- Their EV is very interactive. You get to sit and place things on top of it. There’s no reason why DB can’t have the same. Turrets, healing and ammo stations. Why not have one of those reverse-trucks with their cargo space on the front?
- There’s very little straight paths in their EV route
- The healers and tanks really are the meat and potatoes, brick and mortar of this game. They make battles last long, provide a coherent front and more time to make meaningful teamplay deciscions. The damage dealers are mainly there to knock that equilibrium out of balance in their favour (by flanking mainly).
- In other words without a slow grind down the middle, flanking is meaningless.
- The dps classes all still seem very respectful towards the FPS genre.
- Spectator mode seems brilliant. Very conducive towards the shoutcasting.
- All players pay deep attention towards each others abilities and deployables. Even to the point of actively seeking them out and neutralising it whenever they can.
- Bastion (the turret transformer) trade the ability of firepower for mobility. IE lock down in place for heavy damage dominance. This is what I’d really like to see possible for Rhino. Been suggesting this for a while.
Graphically i love the style of the game - in terms of watching that ‘competition’ i doubt its for me though - just kept thinking how much CoD killstreaks get a bad name…then add that to flyers, tanks et al. then again i tried dota2 and could not for the life of me get at all interested in it, so maybe not a surprise.
