Overwatch and the future of Dirty Bomb

Fun fact: the big name youtubers and streamers were paid by Nexon to play and promote the game.

At its peak, when some popular streamers and YouTubers were being paid to play it, Dirty Bomb was drawing as many as 13,000 concurrent players.

Those 13,000 players were most likely there for the Free Elite Case 2.0 event according to SteamDB.

Was this a random comment or do you know me and know I’m in Pals?[/quote]

You will never know, never.

yeah all you guys are idiots. if you look at the lifespans of games like cs:go or tf2, you see similar trends. cs:go had a huge population drop 2 months after release, and remained fairly low until they did some big releases. tf2 has had a ton of population spikes and drops. Its just how it goes.

We’re looking at an 11% dropoff in the last 30 days. Games like the newest COD multiplayer or evolve hemorrhaged players at like 40-60% a month…

Nothing to see here. Just a bunch of drama queens commenting on 1 glimpse of data without any context. I personaly feel like the game is slowly growing. The people that download and try it for free dont count, its the ones that stick with it. The kiddies and the little girls can have their overwatch, DB is the jam

At 1st i was hoping it was F2P, but now i so wish they add at least a little price tag on it. Even if it’s just £5 or something. Just to prevent hackers from constant joining.

Not sure would have that helped.
However I would had preferred cheap starting pack that is required to play which gives in example the two free mercs plus one/two of your choice.

But the problem here is that would you had paid to see all these cheaters anyway?

I think people would be more furious about open beta that requires payment to start and then the problems…

Well, closed alpha had a buy in system for Dirty Bomb with the founders packs - which is very similar to what you just mentioned.

Other games such as Rust and H1Z1 are in Early Access and require payment. So in the end, if a hacker is caught and the Steam account banned - they would have to purchase another copy of the game on a different Steam account entirely.

This would be helpful for DB as well I believe.

On top of this, for the competitive scene it would be helpful if the demo recording was available so that players could download their own demos, or others, and they could all be watched publicly available as well.

(Vx89) #109

I believe Overwatch will take the competitive community for sure. Blizzard Entertainment has the money and resources to highly publicize they’re competitive games. Starcraft 2, WoW arena, Heroes of the Storm. Blizzcon and other events usually have some competitive game being show.

I like Dirty Bomb but the reality is Blizzard Entertainment has the dollars to spend on competitive and the players will come.

Lack of marketing is hurting this game the most, they need to invest some money into marketing and get a larger following on twitch/youtube/gaming circles.

I really hope Dirty Bomb gets far. I haven’t enjoyed a FPS game this much in a loooong time.

(Aazhyd) #112

Overwhat? I have tons of games that need to be played, I can’t have yet another one. Too busy doing my current games. I will be playing DB for a while, although the amount of time I put in it will be less. We need more maps and game modes. I hope Execution will be released soon.
