Overlapping brushes. Good, Bad or Ugly?

identically placed brush FACES (with textures) can sometimes go wrong, but then you should never end up with that situation normally anyway.

I think that s a bug. I get that sometimes too, its when the same brush in exactly the same place twice. I tracked it down to a screwing-up of radiant when using Ctrl+Z, but it does happen seldom, probably when u ve been working in radiant for a while without saving the file.

no, it isn’t a bug… AFAIK it is intentional and part of the optimization in q3map2… if you really want to have congruent brush faces (and there are some rare occasions where this makes sense) then use surfaceparam trans (which isn’t a good idea in general, especially when you do so on structural brushes, because this prevents vis blocking)

EDIT: i assume, that by “bug”, you mean a bug in q3map2

There is a bug that can cause brushes to get duplicated in radiant (1.4). ISTR it is related to undo-

I think that happens if you have selected some faces only of a group of brushes and undo.
I’ve had that bug many times. You hit undo and suddenly you are facing a group of solid red selection - a bugger to ‘undo’ manually
