out of nowhere: connection interrupted

(Simply D.E.A.D.) #1

Hello everybody. I really like this game, great work you did splashdamage. But i am not here to praise you guys. here’s the problem  : approx. 3 days ago my connection via all-seeing-eye or via the in-game-serverlist started from one to the other moment this “connection interrupted” stuff. i normally have a ping of 50-75, but now its 999! I tried to reinstall and to do whatever i could. i talked with my clan-buddies and i searched in the internet and every forum i knew of. nothing seemed to help me. the hub has neither firewalls, nor proxys. nor do i. my connection in the options-menu is at dsl-speed. my snaps are at 40. my rate at 10000. so, here i am, not wiser than before :banghead: and hoping to get some help. i didnt install anything in the last couple of days!!!
my system:
athlon xp 1800
geforce ti 4200 64mb
256mb ddr-ram
dsl with 256 from a modem via a hub

:???: HELP :???:

Ive been hearing a lot of reports like this lately- As a step in troubleshooting, do you still see the same effects if you manually update your punkbuster client?

(Simply D.E.A.D.) #3

yes. i tried manually and downloaded from my friend the complete pb-folder…
nothing changed

Yep, Punkbuster is causing loads of problems lately. Try playing on non-Punkbuster enabled servers (if you can find any) until it’s resolved, if it isn’t already (problems like this usually fixed within a day or so).

It might be a good idea to get the PB web update tool from their website at http://www.evenbalance.com

Also, on a side note, I’d set your rate a bit higher. You can go to 25000 without problems, but I’d make it at least 15000 because a lot of E.T. servers are using higher rates than the 8000 - 10000 normally used for RTCW.

(Simply D.E.A.D.) #5

actually it was at 25000, but then i read “change it to 10000, better!” and i did. i did get the tool.
thanx the same

Similar problem here. It all started yesterday:
We have 2 computers on a home LAN - DSL connection, behind a firewall.
When one computer connects, no problem (except the “valid cdkey” crap  )
When the other computers joins in, both computers get “connection interrupted” messages :frowning:
The ping still looked good though (25-70)

Anyone else??

Nope, rate should be “equal to or higher than” the server side setting for sv_rate. Type /sv_rate in the console if you want to know what it is on the server you’re playing on. It doesn’t do any harm if its more than, so set it to the highest value allowable by PunkBuster, which is 25000.

The only time this advice doesn’t apply is if you’re on dial-up or ISDN, in which case you’d be better setting it lower, either to whatever the server is running at, or a little lower.

(Simply D.E.A.D.) #8

ok. 25000. but that is not my problem!!!

another thing i forgot:

It makes no difference whether punkbuster is on or off.
and
We do have three computers at our dsl-modem/router/hub!
When my roomates are online i normally cant play, and thats ok!
But meanwhile i cant even play when their computers arent active…?!

I’m having the same problem and I’ve done everything suggested here. I also have a router for my DSL service and the other computer is rarely used. I had some luck last night as I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled the game and I got in and actually could play. However, once the round ended and the server changed maps, it went back to pinging 999 on every server I tried.

ARGH,

having same issue and it first cropped up last nite. Ive been trouble shooting the shit out of this issue, and Im at wits end.

I ping servers fine in ASE and ingame browser w/ normally low ping, 30 - 60 range for tons of servers. I join game and am greeted w/ 300+ pings to net jack icons, mostly net jack.

I go to DOS and run ping and tracert, all show normal activity, low latency, low hop count etc, no time outs.

I have a Linux firewall, thought perhaps I was getting scanned. Looking at the network monitoring tool, I see that when I join a server, Im sending TONS of data to it. If I sit ingame and watch the Net Monitor, I see it fluctuate, if it dips below a certain threshold I can play some, but my ping is between 200+ to 500. I reinstalled ET, joined a server w/ same results. I totally wiped my firewall, formatted drive and reinstalled linux, same result. My ISP binds my DHCP to the MAC address of my network card, I pulled that from firewall and put in my gaming rig, joined a server w/ same result.

I knew the only difference to my rig was a PB update last nite, June 17. I manually updated PB, uninstalled ET and deleted ET folder, reinstalled etc. all to no avail.

I have hit this issue from every angle and am certain it is not hardware or network related on my end. My connect is normal in every way except for ET. I am able to play AA online with no such issues.

At this point Im certain PB is the most likely culprit, and franky Im pissed !!!

thats exactly what happens to me!!
but it was not always this way!!

the last two or three days, before i never experienced such problems!

Yeah, Punkbuster is much likely the problemmaker…
You hear me Evenbalance???

Same deal with me; it just started yesterday morning. I’ve tried logging into non-pb servers with pb enabled and still have the same problem. I’ve disabled pb and joined the same non-pb servers and I was able to play… :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Ifurita found the cure in a diff forum, Ill paste the instructions for the cure, it worked for me, I just tested it …

Please do the following:

  1. Join a pb server
  2. enter “\cg_drawlagometer 1” into the game console: you will get a
new graph, important is the lower green part. If should be a small
line, if it is a mountain or a big green block you are having problems
  3. Enter com_maxfps, and note down the current value
  4. Change com_maxfps to some very low value, e.g. start with 41
  5. Wait a few seconds while you watch the net graph. You should see a
    change after a few seconds
  6. Increase com_maxfps by 10 or so (e.g. 50, then 60, 70 etc) and go to step 5).
  7. Once you hit a point where the net graph becomes green you need to
decrease the com_maxfps by 1, and go back to 5 as well.

After a bit of testing you should find some value which allows you to
play without lag, and you should also have a nice, small gree line.

thats a paste of anothers post from here —

Didn’t work for me, tried it a bunch of times. Even setting com_maxfps to 41 didn’t stop it. Just emailed support@evenbalance.com about it and hopefully they can get a fix on this quickly…until then :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

(Simply D.E.A.D.) #16

Didnt work for me neither!!

Would be nice to post their reply, and interesting too i guess!!
