[OT]: GNU/Linux: TS2 + W:ET

A bit offtopic for this forum.

I’m using the Ubunti 6.10 distribution of GNU/Linux.
I’ve installed Teamspeak2.

But I haven’t got sound in W:ET if starting TS2 before.

Any help much appreciated.
Thanx in advance.

Seen/heard this before. I don’t know a way yet to solve it, but it has to do with the fact that communication with devices happens by opening a named pipe. The problem with these pipes is the same as opening files for read+write: you can only open it once, hence no sound in W:ET.

Mixing deamons like ARTSD or JACK tried to solve this. However, you need to make sure all audio apps make use of the mixing application or some might still not function depending on who was first. Up to now, I’m not sure how you can connect programs to such apps. W:ET mostly tries to open /dev/osp or /dev/audio for example.

Do you use OSS or ALSA ? OSS generally has problems with playing several sounds at once. (From several programs).
ALSA handles this much better. In case of Kubuntu, all I had to do was to switch to ALSA.

# rm /dev/dsp
# mknod /dev/dsp0 c 14 3
# chmod 660 /dev/dsp0
# chown root.audio /dev/dsp0
# ln -sf /dev/adsp /dev/dsp
# echo "et.x86 0 0 direct">/proc/asound/card0/pcm1p/oss
# echo "et.x86 0 0 disable">/proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss

don’t forget to let teamspeak use /dev/dsp0 (can change in options)
Works fine for me on Ubuntu 5.10, so I guess it should work for you too (atleast as long as you don’t use any very specific sound cards, I think)

Will test this on weekend.

What sound card have you got?
I recomend getting a sound card that way you wont have to bother with software mixing and it will play et and other sounds and TS thats how I fixed it
