Opinions on my first movie attempt

I’ve been working on this video and i thought it’d be a good idea to get some criticism before im finished to have an idea of how is going.

it was ‘ok’, quick comments below…

It was a bit bright, i’d maybe darken it and adjust the levels to add a bit of depth to it.

If you’re going to do a freecam, i’d suggest removing the text and HUD… just seems out of place a camera watching the action from another perspective being cluttered.

And on that note, ETPro has a great scritped camera feature. I’d put some in there to bring the vid into this year. Seems a bit outdated going from frag to frag to frag all in 1st person view or the very odd randomly placed camera.

If you want to point things out like a stray panzer or nade, use something a bit sleeker looking than MS paint :wink:

Not my taste of music, but if you can i’d try and sync the action to the music… can add a lot to a movie. I’d also kinda lay off the racial comments a bit, might ok where you are (and if you’re indeed black…), but you dont want to end up offending half your audience.

68 views and 1 reply? :frowning: well i appreciate your reply darkangel. i’ll work on the color adjustments. I dont know how to remove all the screen clutter.
I’m learning the how to use the scripted cameras and we’ll add some interesting shots in the future.

oh and about my use of the n word, we dont care about that word, and the few people that still do get offended are the real problem, because they let 1 word define them.
oh and dont forget that the comment is saying that I’M THE lucky n* :slight_smile: so it’s all good man… thx for all the pointers!

BTW it wasnt mspaint, it was AFTER EFFECTS :stuck_out_tongue: i just used the simple paint tool it has. i wont ever do that again :smiley:

That was painful to watch.

The colors and contrasts are eye-jarring.

The frags were laughable. You’re basically shooting people on a public server who barely know how to play the game; most of them don’t even seem to know how to pull the trigger.

The music is completely out of sync.

Definitely the worst gaming video I’ve ever seen. In fact, it was so bad that I felt a tumor started growing in my brain while watching it.

But “niggers and bitches” don’t offend me, if that’s a consolation.

I know the frags arent incredible, thats not the point, i’m not in a clan or league and dont plan to join one just to have valid frags, i wanted more comments on the video making itself… Thanks for watching!

honest personal opinion: watched it and thought it was from an amateur. most annoying were the speech at the beginning where i hardly understood anything, mainly dommafia text was in the foreground, music selection isn’t everyones taste, graphics are poor, especially this yellow styling and when i saw the wording “lucky nigga!” i thought waste of bandwidth and stopped the playback, you better should avoid such wordings on your next try and instead show that you are a real pro gamer. the 17 frag kill were quite impressive although the music did absolutely not fit. and as i said before, avoid this next time if you want to be taken seriously:

It’s not the worst I’ve seen. The panzer shot and the 17 kills spree were cool.
The word nigga put me off.
The CD Dommafia logo on screen almost all the time was not enjoyable. What does it contribute to, in terms of the film’s overall value?
I do not think that it is always outdated going to go from frag to frag all in 1st person view, but it must be a good frag movie.
Music must be in sync with frags and other stuff in the movie.
For a first frag movie, it has potential. Looking forward to the full version.
What compression did you use? I think I saw DivX at the start but I don’t remember.

I have to agree… Even though you were a medic with 158+ health… if there are 3 enemy medics, 1 panzer, 1 riflenade engi running towards you, aiming at you( and actually firing -_- ), there is no way you’re going to survive all by yourself - no matter how ‘uber’ you are :slight_smile:

The vid was OK for a first attempt, I think :moo:.
I’d definitely remove the [CD] MyNameHere text at the bottom of the screen, and get rid of the (game) text. cg_Draw2d / cg_drawhud I think(?).
The music didn’t bother me that much, but the ‘lucky nigga’ text effect did :nag:

ah those comments are more like it. I’ll remove the name at the bottom thing. My friend told me it would be better to add names in the bottom since i’ll be doing a section for 3 diferent guys (we all play together but not in clan style, we’re just cousins)
I used those songs because that’s what listen to. If u can recommend other RAP songs that are more fit for this type of movie please name them and i’ll try them out. “Nigga” is not an issue to any one of my fellow african-american “friend” (or niggas). We have destroyed the racist meaning the word once had and have rendered it meaningless for anyone to use it as a racist remark. If someone from another race calls one of us “nigga” he’ll be looking more stupid then actually being a racist. Watch some chappelle show :slight_smile: But i dont want to make this about a word, it’s about the vid. I’ll edit future footage i post here to not include something like this but it suks to not have freedom of xpression. long live the fcc.

If you want to tell people ‘hey, now you’re watching playerXYZ play’, then you could display the players’ names when they first appear on screen :slight_smile:

I like the intro, it looks like ur on a pretty active market square and with all the peopple running and shooting arround its kinda cool. I dont like all the chats, and the text effects could be lowered as well…

I truly find both words highly offensive as do most people I know, such attitudes only further already bad stereotypes

k, I watched as much of it as I could,
1: worst music for a frag movie I’ve ever heard
2: colour is crap
3: looks either staged or you played with a bunch of first timers
4: editing and effects are horrible, quick switches may work with MTV but frag vids need transitions, maybe some slo mo
5: don’t give up your day job
