Operative - Tips and builds

(Hot-Wire) #81

The bayonet works great with the operative. Especially when in disguise.

You get up behind them, poke, and then spray. They don’t even got a chance :).

I got a light, medium, and heavy build for operative.

My light carries a bulpdaun with a bayonet. My medium has a Rhett with a bayonet… and my heavy has a Euston with one.

I run my operative with a light body type, a Barnett rifle and machine pistol. I use em like an assassin.
I like to pick off high priority targets with the rifle, or if I’m disguised I’ll run up behind someone and slash them with a knife. If it’s a group I’ll toss and shoot a grenade.

Light body with a silenced tampa with red dot and duct taped mag as primary. Secondary is a scoped ritchie with a muzzle and rapid fire (just in case I miss or he got too close :p).

The thing I’d like to here is tips for the sticky bomb. Cause that’s a hard one to land effectively. I wish you could just grenade shoot it while it’s on the guy. So far my best tactic with it is to stick a guy and then down him next to his team mates and hope they didn’t notice. So far I’ve never seen some1 “disarm” a sticky off a downed guy, but I’m not 100% sure they can’t. Any tips for other good uses for it?

Best ambush tactic I find is to (assuming your already behind an unaware group, of course) frag-n-shoot for knock down, then caltrop while they’re down, sticky bomb one of them and pop him with my revolver so they can’t disarm. I’ve had this backfire once or twice, but it’s also successfully wiped out a 6 man group before.

That’s the problem though you know. Operative is a class where thinking outside the box is a must if you really wanna pull off some good stuff… People who can’t think outside the box should definitely stay away from this class.

The fun you can have especially with light body class and silenced weapons/footsteps is so amazing at times.

I run:
light body
SMG main silenced
Revolver sub silenced

Skills:
Silent Running
Emp Nade: Really Annoying skill for the other team
Caltrops: Someone sneaking up on yah? This can help
Cortext Bomb: Rez what’s that?
Sticky Bomb: What sticky bomb in the vent?
Coms Hack: Need to com hack an OP?? That’s another job for mr. emp
Turret Hacking: It’s still “your” friend!
Being able to spot enemies.mines for your team behind the lines can be pretty big job at times. I’ve been bitched at so many time for playing OP on certain maps. Yet here I am giving all kinds of intel. Capping points, and even obliterating the enemy lines from behind yet Ops are so overlooked especially on maps where they don’t have a main Objective.(BTW I have scored over 14k against peeps on my Op from kills/traps/spotting/hacking)

As stated though Op is defiantly and outside the box class. Things to remember when hacking turrets/objectives. We do not need to stand still. I actually got bitched out by a player the other night because after planting the hack box I ran off to hide and hack. The guy didn’t realize the range we have.

Skills I don’t use:
Control Turret: I played with this skill for awhile, and while you can get the turret to lock onto someone much quicker and follow them around quickly to kill. The acc of the turret seems to be missing or maybe there is some delay while controlling? Btw you can also control an eng friends turret that is NOT under your control.

Micro UAV: This skill has some very good and tactical uses especially when using the radar, or clearing out a room’s defenses. However emp, caltrops, and sticky bomb have FAR more utility and are far less situational than it is. So I can’t really recommend getting this skill.

One of the best uses for the sticky I find is not to use it to throw at someone, but to place it in a location that few will run into. Or to use it as a detection device to cover my back to let me know someone is coming. I have on occasion used it as a 2nd grenade to shoot it and damage a group of people as it won’t show up on there screens like a normal grenade will. Not saying that I never toss one at peeps. Because I do. I’m just saying tha’ts not always the best thing(Though you can cause panic on some people with it)

Also another tip for the sticky. If your sticky is already on someone, and your cd is ready. You can toss another and the one that is already attached will still blow on time thus allowing you 2 sticky’s even if it’s only for a short time.
I’m a lvl 20 Op and ive been playing all weekend, loving playing as it!I’ve used a med build with the carb and shotgun mostly, then get behind enemies and find a loner. From right up close shotty usually takes em down in 1 or 2 hits, then hack and disguise…rinse repeat for at least 5/6k XP a game. Also I never realised that you could spot enemies while disguised though,il definitely start doing that from now on.

A few things though, is the speed given by the light build really worth the health drop over a med build?Ive had things go wrong where the person im disguised as pops around a corner as I’m about to open up on a group from behind and needed all the health i could get…

Ive also found the control turret hack takes quite some time. After you hack a turret you pop out of disguise so i havent tried this much, but is it effective?I’ve always just popped a few shots into people taking down one or two and legged it off to find a new corpse to disguise as…

Any info would be great, this is an awesome thread and im loving the Op class, which is definitely OP! ;)
If you really get into it you can start to score 8-15k per match… Well kinda depends on the map, and how long it is taking.

However a few things to remember one the light class:

Advantages light class:
Smaller frame so hard to hit.
WAY more agile than the rest
Free Roam. You can get to pretty much any location that you want. So many places that heavy’s can not go, and even many that medium’s can’t. Getting to those locations can give you a big edge on some maps.

Disadvantages to light body:
Fewer weapons to chose from
a little less health. The difference in health really isn’t that bad tbh a head shot with a sniper rifle is still a head shot. Getting shot by the heavy shot gun from point blank is still gonna hurt/kill regardless unless your heavy
I don’t know what’s going on lately, but I’ve been getting creamed as a light Op. I had a good run for some time but anytime I go against a decent medic, I can never [exaggeration] put him down. I know they can heal sometimes, but even if they don’t they seem to kill me within 1-3 shots, especially at close range.

I’m not sure why I can hit someone at mid-range with a primary to only take 1/2 health sometimes [with a full clip] while at even further ranges they can take me out with one or two shots. And this is with MG’s mind you! I’m not talking about the long range guns. I burst as well, I don’t spray.

I’m assuming that the medium/heavy guns are responsible for better accuracy at range? Unfortunately, those same medics are taking me as i come around a corner with 1-2 shots. And i’m watching the kill list, these are NOT headshots.

Thoughts on staying alive versus these heavier builds?

p.s. Even as I sometimes come up behind someone when I’m disguised and decide to unload a clip, his/her health bar still goes down slowly as they turn around to knock me off with 1-2 shots… I just don’t get it. I’m right behind them and I have the advantage!

I’m usually using the Bulpdaun but I’ll go with the CARB if I need more range. Sea Eagle as secondary.
Advanced Iron Sights. When your actually aiming with a subgun you can drop around 3 peeps per clip versus around 1 when your shooting from the hip. The iron sighs give you way better grouping than the dot sights do even if the dot sights look better :frowning:

When I’ve snuck up to a group from behind I always bring my gun up b4 shooting. I’ll usually drop the whole group before they even figure out where I am shooting from

(Hot-Wire) #88

You can take control of turrets your engineers put down as well, so not only hacked turrets

Sticky Bomb is the ability I drop on my Operative Build. A good team will just remove the sticky. Rarely do they kill. And I feel UAV is more beneficial and worthwhile. And more fun. I go with Caltrops, EMP, and UAV.
