Operative - Tips and builds

(rederth) #41
Operatives are IMO the best class

Light Body Type

CARB-9 with Soda Can Silencer and Red Dot (I use the Radar all the time so IMO the silencer is a must)
Ceasar Revolver with Muzzle Break and COGA Scope (If they’re so too close to use the scope I usually slide tackle them and stab them while they’re down Mwahahaha!!!)

I feel like I use my Revolver way more than the SMG

Caltrop grenades are my best friend followed by sticky nade (haven’t got the cortex bomb yet though)

Disguising and running backwards through the enemies is probably the most fun I’ve had in the game. The best was when they had the last objective super defended: couple heavies and three turrets set up. I ran in backwards hacked all three turrets, let loose every nade I had and started picking them off with the Scoped Ceasar.
I don’t know why you give them weird names but I like the build. The Ritchie with greeneye is rather potent for fighting people at range and the Coga packs a big punch with relatively good accuracy.

(cptincognito) #42

That’s what they’re called when you get the D2D/Amazon Preorder. Caesar = Ritchie, SodaCan = Suppressor

(shedim) #43

Or a revolver.

(trigg3r) #44

im using the light body type, with the ritchie pistol and been switching between the Tampa and the CARB-9 smg, i still havent decide which one to keep. Some stuff i found helpfull

-aways try to disguise as a light body type
-if you’re in disguise, don’t get greedy and try to kill the fist enemy you see, only kill when you’re sure no one will see you 'less it’s neccesary
-run backwards toward the enemies
-easiest way to kill someone IMO is knocking them down and empty the clip on them.

Current one (level 19 pure Op class) is a med body. Youll appreciate the extra hps when things go wrong. And if people shoot at you, you are doing it wrong.

Take off, get disguised. work behind the lines. Find the other teams key personell for that mission, hack turrets, put sticky bombs in avenues of advance or retreat, hack command posts, Take out entire teams from behind with your MG. Cortex bomb anyone who gets near you if you are unlucky enough to ket incappacitated.

Keep running around always behind the lines. The op is a loner, but can massively help a team by sticking close. Enemy holding them up, get behind and kill them all.

Its such a fun class. And part of the fun is thinking up more dastardly ways of playing them

I’ve been finding out that I’m having more “fun” being an operative. I have a medium build, Gerund for longer range firing and a Tampa for “up close and personal” combat. :oppressor: What a tend to do is disguise myself and head to the Command Post that needs to get captured. Wait maybe 30 seconds and see how many opposing forces come back to recapture the command post. If I’m lucky I usually get one or two enemy soldiers. Take them out, rehack the Command Post, redisguise myself, and let the process play out again.

Another favorite play is to wait above and some distance away where the enemy needs to hack, place a hacking device, etc., wait till the last enemy goes by and pounce on the enemy soldier. Disguise myself, and again wait for the process to present itself again.

Then I like to jump around on things, climb here and there and get capped! LOL:stroggbanana::smiley:

Question: when you hack a turret does it let the engineer know?

Second, how do you take control of a turret remotely once you plant the box? Can you see it outlined through walls or do you need line of sight?

(Schwarzeis) #48

A must for the Operative: Cortex Bomb

(Stormchild) #49

Hi !

First of all, wonderthread !

Now question : When disguised, what happens when an enemy medic/soldier/engy wants to buff you or give you health / ammo ? Does it works ? Or does it not, allowing them to realize you’re a disguised op ?

I can’t play my copy yet 'cause my PC is travelling through europe in a truck, so I can’t try out these by myself hence my question.

Also, maybe a group of players or a clan should set up a private dedicated server (for PC at least) ,do a lot of tests of damages vs buffs vs different weapons vs various abilities, and publish the results in a wiki or something. Maybe it’s already underway ?

cheers

I agree, Ive had up to 4 insta kills with cortex bomb few times - so much fun!

(DemiGod) #51

So I tried switching to Eng to use the Command Upgrade ability - which I bought with a skill point. It didn’t work. I went into the menu like it says to and nothing happens. Is there an extra step or something I missed?

Also, if you switch, does your firewall disappear? If you go Eng, upgrade the post, then change back, does the upgrade go away?

They can’t buff you if you are disguised. But this doesn’t always mean they know that you are an enemy operative, it could just be that you already have the weapon buff from engineers for example. Altho if you are missing hp/ammo I’m not sure how it is displayed for them.

If you hack the turret the engineer will see he has lost his turret, as in the icon dissapears at the bottom left of the screen, like when it dies. But most people don’t react to that in the blink of an eye so it can still get in some hits on the engineer if he is standing infront of it.

You take remote control by planting a box (like the hackbox) on the turret in melee range. After that you can be at a certain distance from it, even ignoring line of sight, it will have a yellow outline, but I’m not sure what the maxrange is. When you want to take control over your turret just press the interact button like with MG nests to take control and to stop controlling the turret again.

I’m not sure - but it might be like firewalling ability - while you are in the command post menu - there should be a green ring filling up in the centre

I am really glad to see many smart operatives. I also enjoy the operative the most.

Personally I use CARB with red dot, front grip, and drum clip. I was debating on using silencers but

after seeing this thread I will definitely try it.

Many tips i wanted to post were all on this thread, so I just want to recommend this thread to anyone

who wants to try operative.

I am PC player btw since I am horrible at FPS on console, but Im okay enough to compete for best operative every game.

I would suggest to put some point in medic just in case when you are sure that operative isn’t helping out the team sometimes. (maybe if i was better i wouldnt have that problem)

but yeah, it is awesome to see fellow operatives and hope to learn more from you guys!

I’m wondering about the same. Can you put a mine out as an engineer, than change back to operative?

Edit: Adding another question: is the richie (revolver) good in cqc?

Upgrade is like Firewall. After the CP is captured, you interact with it and see a green circle filling in the middle of the CP menu.

I just redid my abilities on my Op and tried this and it does work to switch to engineer, upgrade the CP, then switch back and firewall it. I’m assuming firewall works too after switching, but that’s harder to see.

(DemiGod) #57

Hmm, I firewalled the station first, then tried to change and upgrade.

Perhaps that was my problem. It is possible that you can only have one thing on at a time. Can someone confirm if you firewall, then try to upgrade if it stops you? Or, if you upgrade, then firewall, is it still upgraded?

I’m starting to think that a firewall will stop your team from upgrading the station.

(crows) #58

Nope, i firewall first and switch to engy and upgrade, then switch to operative. I don’t have way to check firewall but i know upgrade works.

(Butcher Rabbit) #59

So I’m a fairly new-to-operatives player, but I’ve been messing around with a light body OP/Soldier mix (played level 10, but not after in MP and I want to soooo use the caltrops). Here are some of my (very simple) views so far…

Comm hacks are great. Even if no one else on your team sees the results, at least you know roughly where the whole enemy team is, letting you plan your route.

Disguises have a life span, measured in how long you can go before the person who you are using as a disguise sees you, or their team realizes you aren’t doing much of anything.

If you have an unaware group of enemies in front of you (whether you’re disguised or not) throw a grenade to one side of them so they move away from it, a sticky into their midst, and then start mowing them down. Best used when your team is trying to break a choke IMO (say, if you’re on security and your team is escorting the bot through that first narrow alley in Container City).

My kit is simply the Bulpduan with greeneye/coga, flash suppressor, hi cap mag, and front grip with a Sea eagle second with adjusted iron sights, hi cap mag, speed holster, and suppressor.

My plan on how to use this OP (thanks to this thread) is steal everything that isn’t watched and provide one man blind sided assaults in unbreakable chokes.

Anyone have recommendations on finding command stations? I will be honest in saying that I often forget where some of the less obvious ones are. Besides knowing where they are from memory, are there any indicators that can aid you?

I thought at first the scroll wheel allows you to pick the nearest station that doesn’t belong to your team, but it just brings you to the closest one, which I can usually find… since it’s usually right there.
