"Operation Market Garden"-Arnhem bridge

(Ziggy) #1

hey all, I am working on a new mp map based around the campaign, “Operation Market Garden”. “Operation Market Garden” was based around hundreds of British troops air dropped in Holland to destroy 3 major bridges important to the German supply lines. The bridges were Arnhem bridge, Oosterbeek and Nijmegen. The map I am working on, is based around Arnhem bridge. The objectives are for allied troops to secure the town in front of the bridge and set up a command post, once this objective is met, the allied team is then to use dynamite to destroy the bridge. The axis teams objectives are to defend the bridge, and move 3 panzers across the bridge and into the town to destroy the allied command post and take over the town. I will try to post some screen shots as soon as possible, still kinda in the planning stage on how everything will go together.

One of the most popular addon maps for RTCW was Marketgarden - made by the fine folks here at Splashdamage.

Good Luck!

Cool, once im done with Arnhem, I might to the other 2 bridges and release them as a pack, but thats a ways down the road. I got the bridge set up, and a few of the buildings in the town made, Ill try post some screen shots later today.

(switchii) #4

cool, you make a campaign?

(Ziggy) #5

perhaps, thats my goal, but im not sure. i have to get this map done and out of the way first and see how people like it first.

(Ziggy) #6

So good news, I did my first test compile just to make sure everything is working so far, and its says 64 MB required passage memory. is this a bit high, or is it pretty normal? Its taken about 25min so far and its about halfway done with the compile so I hope the maps not to big. Are there any tips or tricks for getting the map to load faster? Im not quite sure how to check what my fps is, but im sure that matters some.

(Ziggy) #7

ha ha, no wonder it was so big, I forgot to set stuff to detail. Anyhoo, I got most of the map completed and caulked now, and Im ready to start texturing. Once this is done and I have a working map, im going to move onto adding my constructible objects, scripts, splines etc. Ill keep y’all updated

Screenshots fires up interest

(switchii) #9

me 2
Nice that you try a campaign
what are the objectives?

(Ziggy) #10

if think if you read the first post, my objectives as I see them now are included in there. Although i might lower the number of tanks.

Here are some screenies, sorry it took me so long

(Ziggy) #11

ok, so I ran into a problem, I went to compile my map, and I get the error, “Backwards tree volume”. How can I fix this. I really don’t want to have to make a new map again.

There’s plenty of content over the forums about it, so use search. I am too lazy to do it for you… If I remember right, make sure you have blocked the void with a structural box. I think that was pretty much like a leak. But I can’t remember for sure.

(Ziggy) #13

its progressing. Here are some screenies showing whats new. Thanks for looking.

(-SSF-Sage) #14

Looking nice. Did you made that bridge yourself? It looks a bit familiar.

It looks a bit empty and big, but I think you will get that aspect fixed with time. I just wish you don’t run into fps probelms. Btw are you ZippZiggy (hope it was right, cos I can’t get into E-T.com anymore) from E-T.com? I might maybe offer you a helping and if you need one.

(Avoc) #15

Hmm… Ziggy, have you caulked the unseen faces from the brushes? Especially looking at the fence, it might seem you just selected the brush and applied the texture.

(Ziggy) #16

hey sage, yea…I cant get into E-T.com anymore either, but, I’m the ZippZiggy from there though:D And it would be awesome for you to help me from time to time. I have frequented these forums much more now that I cant get into the E-T.com forums.

BTW, the I got the bridge from here http://www.drakir.tk/. Although I scaled it a bit more and made it bigger to suite my purpose so its not the exact one:)

Avoc

yea, I need to look closer into some of the models. I found these as prefabs on a website, and I just modified them as I needed. So I will need to look and see if they are caulked. I know for sure that the inside of the buildings arn’t, but I will need to check on the fences.

Cheers

You can drop me a pm and we can talk in msn (if you use it).

Avoc, what made you think that they aren’t caulked? No caulk flashing in the pictures? The fence isn’t the best with that construction. A lot of tjunctions which will be divided into new tris. But it can be fixed ofc.

(rambo13) #18

ziggy u naughty boy  the buildings are from some lights test map that was on SL new too, i used these buildings for my little Duel Village map

(Ziggy) #19

haha, cool. I hope nobody minds me using these prefabs. I am going to to be sure to give the authors credit in my readme. sage, MSN would be fine. Ill shoot you a PM when I get back home today.

Cheers

ololololol XDDDDD
more and more fun gets noticed , after the bridge, :stuck_out_tongue:

btw apart the fun, back to topic, i found this map empty and uncool compared to that map made by the sd guys for rtcw and which has a popular et version too… sry for that im usually posting enthusiast and positive reviews about other’s work - if i can. (fosho u can check my posts about others maps et c). my only other negative post was about a prefab
i have actually saw in-game panzer iv, panzer iii prefabs but they were quite low quality work. in this forum i saw a marder iii but that was the ugliest thing i ever saw and i dont even know how someone dare to post a work like that… [XDD]
i apologise for being so rude; but ur map might be made much better if u would examine other maps how they r laid out and made. look at these: that marketgarden by sd, venice vesuvius pretoria warbell and many others
