hey aaa3, no offense taken what so ever. I’m posting here to get feed back both good and bad. I myself think my map is a bit boring. I just cant think of a way to make it more interesting.
"Operation Market Garden"-Arnhem bridge
yea thanx i was bit afraid after made my post :S
btw 1) walk around a bit in those custom maps which i mentioned, or in any one u want; 2) choose such a scenario to your map in which you are personally interested so u have fun making that one,it will be better for both you and the map
ok, I will do that. I think it might help to have an Idea of what a map should look like. BTW, I was looking around in my etmain folder, and I found a pk0 file that had a map called market garden. I think I might look around at that map and see what it looks like as well.
cheers
dont leave so much open fields, use many models, and making a terrain after u have completed all the buildings is a bitch, trust me i know
yea, I was figuring on making a terrain when I had everything built. As well for a terrain for the bottom of the canal under the bridge. I’m just having some trouble with making allot of building that don’t all look the same. I’m thinking of just simple buildings except for the 2 or 3 you can go into. Thanks for all the suggestions so far though guys. much appreciated.
cheers
Both works fine. Making the terrain first or last. I’ve done both. Aslong as you do your terrain trisoup by hand, it doesn’t matter imo.
So your talking about generating the terrain in radiant, or in a program like easy gen…? BTW, did you get my PM
Making terrain by hand=making it in radiant from the scratch. I am planning to make tutorials for that, after I’ve finished my scripting tutorials and put my site up. Btw. answerinng to your pm now.
Yea, I found some tutorials online for how to make terrain in radiant, it didn’t sound to hard, but it didn’t sounds as easy as using easy gen so I haven’t attempted it yet. I think I might though.
I thought it was getting time to post some more screen shots of a more refined map, and I was thinking it would be cool if I could get into 3rd person view for the shots. How would i do that?
if u mean in game, than : /cg_thirdperson, _thirdpersonangle, _thirdpersonrange
Another quick questions, I found a prefab I would like to use im my map, and the zip came with a folder of textures for the model. Where do I store those textures so they work with my model? Also, While trying to test my map in ET, i keep getting this error just before the loads, "sv_setbrushmodel: NULL What could this mean?
There’s many causes for that error. For example origin brush being the only brush in entity. Entity without brushes (those that uses brushes) must be the most common one with 1.5.0. I used to remember long list of causes but I don’t get those errors anymore so I’m starting to forget. :stroggtapir:
If you can’t find it ask me in msn to do it for you.
And yeah, the stuff uses same structure that is given. Also good trick is to load the model up in radiant to see it.
Ummmm… What exactly do you mean? You don’t “store” your textures in your map. Texturing won’t cause this, unless you abuse common/origin. I’ve explained that entity without brushes thing many times over this forum so search. That is what I guess causing it. Search for more and check your map (entitylist with L). If you can’t get it I’ll get to msn in about hour.
Sorry guys for how long its taken me to update this thread. I decided that an all outdoor town map was probably not the best way to start out with level editing, so I shifted the Arnhem project to a later time, and instead, decided to go with a simpler smaller map. This map is called Druckkammern_mp. it is set around a indoor submarine bunker. It is a RoB type setup, with possibly a conquest mode. not sure yet. In the screen shots, it might seem a bit dark, im still trying to work out the lighting. The map is about 70% done, just need to finish up the spawns, and fix the lighting, as well as some sounds, and it should be ready for beta testing.
Cheers
Ziggy
