OpenAL 1.1 with EAX (Linux)

(General.Jung) #1

Hello Forum,

i want to give all tux fighters this information:

The X-Fi series of products are not supported under Linux. Closed-source drivers will be available for the X-Fi series of sound cards in the second quarter of 2007. These drivers will have full support for ALSA (playback, recording, mixer, MIDI, synthesis) and OpenAL 1.1 (with EAX effects).

Source: http://opensource.creative.com/

So we can hope that we can play Quake Wars with EAX, if a linux client will released.

Not bad, shame folks are moving to closed drivers, but hey. It’s no worse than using nvidia’s drivers. That’s up to each individual to decide if sacrificing some rights, is worth it to play a game… Shame on me, but I like games

Thanks for the heads-up.

Hello yibble,

yes sadly, but i was really pleased as i read this. Late but then X-Fi soundcards will be supported. So let u hop that creaive will release it before Quake Wars com out and EAX work good with this.

when Et first came out, I played with my 5.1 system on, soon switched to cheap headphones, could still hear footsteps, but the explosions stopped scaring the crap out of me

what did you expect, an impressive surround sound ?
and what does this have to do with the topic or one of the other posts ? :?

Your assuming creative are actually going to release those drivers, look when they posted that news, heck look at the cheap ass site, they threw it together to shut people up.

If they keep there word lets hope we hear something soon, it is the 2nd quarter of 2007.

I’ll assume English isn’t your primary language and/or you’re under 14 yrs old.

The smiley -> was me laughing at people wanting extra audio support for high end cards, the explanation was that the explosions and other warlike noises were too startling for me with my surround system, I switched to cheap headphones to get away from that, I still wanted to hear footsteps though

and that would certainly make it more relevant to topic than your little whine.
k?

Hello Nail,

i think with a better soundsystem, you can hear footsteps better. I have a X-Fi Soundcard and a Medusa 5.1 Headset for this i hear the fantastic sounds of the Games, like footsteps, granates and reloading from Americas Army from farer distance.

I heard about this some time ago and I have not heard anything new lets hope they manage to get this out as I am interested in getting one of the nice new soundcards

ah i hear so much when i turn up my cheap 2$ headphones. and my sound card is integrated to my motherboard(means its cheap). i hear footsteps so well that ppl with speakers say that i have a wallhack.

It doesn’t matter if you play ET through a 5.1 system, you still only get 2 channel stereo sound. (Switching to cheap headphones probably just meant that you reduced the bass.)

With ETQW you’ll probably get a much bigger difference.

I don’t really see how people wanting better support for their sound card under Linux (or generally better sound for that matter) is laughable, but then English isn’t my first language either. :stuck_out_tongue:

k, I didn’t say people were laughable, I just found it amusing that some people wanted more depth and effects when I personally wanted the opposite, yes moving to cheap headphones reduced the bottom end from probably 300hz on down, but also some of the 5khz and up. It started out as just a comment, not a declaration of war on eax capable cards

Reading from the previews of ETQW sounds kick ass!

FINALLY !!!

It’s almost impossible to find any more Audigy 2 ZS cards.
That card is awesome under Linux.

I’ve been holding off on a XiFi card since they weren’t supported.

ebay surely?
