One way to choose a fireteam?

(Coolhand) #1

So is this a good way to choose a fireteam? Hmmm… would work on a dual-objective map like Market Garden, perhaps not so well when people’s views of what it means to be “on defense” may differ (to me it would mean close defense of the main objective, whatever that is).

Hope you don’t mind me stealing your quote to start a new thread, Resolution 208…

There is also Charlie fireteam and also Delta I think.
They may come in handy if people use them more.

Hmmm… perhaps I wasn’t clear.

What I meant was: if you want to play offense, join Alpha fireteam. If you want to play defence, join Bravo.

Of course this would only work if everyone understood that this was the protocol. But is it a good idea in principle?

if you want to play offense, join allies and for defence join axis?

That’s a nice principle :bump:

It doesn’t work on the railgun map though :o.

Both sides often need an offense AND a defense, even if the job of the defense is just to keep the CP secure…

It hard to arrange whos on defence and whos on defence.
Defence is boring sometimes and people go on offence so unless you got a good team then its equal.

I was wondering if anyone had found a way to find out who is on who’s fireteam before joining. i.e. instead of joining and leaving each one looking for someone…, is there a way to get a list? This mostly applies imo to games that have 3-5+ fireteams, usually 32-64 people.

I think it is yes. Also, if I’m playing with people who stick around the same area, I try to create a new fireteam and invite them to it - a special team of sorts. That way you get say fireteam Delta guarding the tunnels on Oasis, Alpha, Bravo and Charlie can do whatever they want, Delta is dedicated to the tunnels and the tunnels alone. Likewise you could create a fireteam just to try to break through back door on battery, invite a covop, an engy and a medic to come along and have the rest of the team charge the ramp. For creating special teams the fireteam feature is VERY useful.

I hope that with time the Fireteam feature will be used more on publics, it really helps a lot on keeping a small group in close contact. Much less clutter and faster communication to the people you have to reach.

The only way fireteams are ever effective is if everyone knows / agrees to use / follow them.

It will never work on the pubs because there is too much DM going on the pubs.

When we have private matches however, you can really see them at use.

Pretty cool stuff!

Actually I’d say the opposite is true, a fireteam allows you to filter out all the noise and join up with the people that you think play well. If there are just a few players with a clue why not break out and form a new fireteam so you can communicate and coordinate more efficiently while letting the newbies do their thing? Try it, you’ll be surprised.

yeah, i sometimes choose to make my own private fire team when it seems that only a few members of my team have a clue what is going on. while I have never really used the fireteam chats and voicechats, it’s still realy useful to know what location they are at and if they are dead or not, etc.

fireteams could be really useful if you’re in an organized team. Rail Gun for example, you could have Alpha team protect the flag. Have Bravo and Charlie focus on the train. Bravo spawns in the Axis cabin, Charlie spawns in the Depot Yard so you get the train from both sides. And then maybe have Delta team to hold the Command Post area and keep that trackswitch raised.

I’m thinking there could be 26 Fireteams, since there are 26 letters in the alphabet. the highest letter I’ve seen is firetea Echo. Foxtrot is F on the phonetic alphabet so that should be next in theory.
