OMG an ET post ... question about airstrikes

(eq-Shrike) #1

I always thought you could change where an airstrike hits byt the way you are facing when you get the confirmation message from the pilot but it seems no matter where I move to just after throwing the cannister the airstrike always hits perpendicular to where I threw the cannister.

Has this always been the way it work ? Am I going mad ?

Don’t answer the second one

P.S You can tell I don’t play fops very often

hm try again, but this time don’t inhale any of the cannisters smoke

Technically, it should land perpendicular on the direction you threw it and the place where the canister lands marks the spot. (aka: throw it at your feet if you just feel like getting blasted away/apart.)

Not the way you are facing, but your position. And … yeah… you can only change your position until you heard the pilot afaik.

I think this was discussed previously, like a year ago (or more), by Bani and others. If I remember correctly, there is a random algoritm involved. In other words, you can control the direction of the airstrike, the “old rtcw way” (by the way you are facing), but not with 100 percent accuracy.

This is how it works in RtCW:

I don’t FieldOp enough to say if it’s exsactly the same in ET, but you do have some control.

Afaik the airstrike comes rotated by 90°±30° to the line which is drawn from your position when you hear the plane coming to the canister. Whether it comes from left or right is random. For Field Ops level 3 the second airstrike is again rotated by 90°±30° to the first one.

afaik, the airstrike is perpendicular to the line between player and canister when “on my way” is heard, don’t think direction you’re facing actually matters

From how I’ve played and everything it’s almost always perpendicular to my position. So if I throw it north, and then ran northwest ish it will usually strike NE-SW area. I know if you do it right, you can trick a lot of people who try to avoid the canister smoke by judging it’s trajectory etc.

I have tried the following many times but so far haven’t got it to work:

Goldrush. Axis FOP standing on the raised balcony overlooking bridge above tank barrier #2
(i.e. as Axis run out of second spawn, up the stairs to the bridge, into room with wooden ladder and then climb up)

When Allies have managed to escort the tank to the bridge I want to throw an airstrike that runs along the length of the bridge, not across …

is this possible ? :???:

Ta !

This is the closest I could get:

One explosion was on the balcony, the rest on the bridge.
